Casita Treetops is a getaway nestled in the tree tops overlooking the beautiful colonial city of San Miguel de Allende. Just a short 7 minute walk to the city hub at the Jardin, with coffee & restaurants seemingly every few doorways on the way and beyond. Enjoy morning coffee or sunset-watching from your own private balcony and the twinkling lights below after dark from there or from the large windows. Located away and above the street, so you can enjoy relative quiet, unlike many Centro accommodations. This 1-bedroom casita is reserved exclusively for your use and has an open floor plan giving it a feeling of spaciousness and light. The living room seating and kitchen areas face large windows and the small garden and patio areas. The wide granite dining bar and stools are perfect for casual dining and conversation with the cook. The granite kitchen contains all you'll need during your stay - toaster, microwave, toaster oven with convection option, coffee pot, blender, dishes and glassware for up to 6 guests, pots and pans, cooking utensils, etc. The bedroom also profits from views and its own smart TV with DVD player. There is a small library of DVDs and books. Of couse, you are welcome to bring your own USB device and DVDs for use with TVs located for viewing from every room and simultaneously if there is a difference of opinion as to what to watch and when.
The comfortable, King-sized bed (which can also be set up as two twin beds) is firm but sports a memory-foam mattress topper for your comfort. There is an ample supply of comforters, pillows and linens. There is an additional sofa bed in the living room that can be made up for one person. The entire home is served with wi-fi, basic service cable TV, a clock-radio ready for your classic I Pod or another model using your own adapter.
The bath is directly accessible from all areas, adjacent to but separate from the bedroom and has both shower and tub. Compact, with its own wall heater, a relaxing soak after a day's sightseeing, shopping, language or art studies cannot be beat.
Access for two to the nearby, covered swimming pool is included and workout sessions at the gym can be arranged for a modest fee. Your own stack washer/dryer is in a closet adjacent to the front entry. Professional rental manager available to assist you with your arrival, departure and any needs during your stay. Easy and inexpensive (between $3 and $4 USD per ride!) taxi service available 24/7 but also a parking pad in front of your door on private driveway, should you have a vehicle, receive visitors who drive or for taxi use. There is a landline available for local calls only. The cold faucet of the kitchen sink is served by a water purification system located underneath that sink. You know it is working because the water comes out hot, at first, and because you can see the UV light glow on the filter. Purified water is safe to drink. A bottled water dispenser is also provided and you can arrange to purchase water for delivery at a modest price on the maid's work day if you prefer to have that additional option for potable water. For your safety, all fruits and vegetables should be soaked in Microdyn or similar sanitizing solution for which the purified tap water is suitable.
Exterior entry staircase with railing of 10 steps or so, but interior is all on one level. Either use the wide, flat driveway through the complex to reach the staffed vehicular entry gate and Calle Sto. Domingo just below "Los Arcos" for the walk/ride down to Centro or employ the staircase shortcut to the lower, pedestrian-only gate to Calle Sto. Domingo, as you may prefer. Of course, door-to-door taxi service is a winner for anyone with mobility issues of any kind.
While I have never been concerned about safety, there is a 24/7 watchman at the gate to manage traffic, to direct delivery services and to identify visitors; the pedestrian gate that is closest to the apartment and the center of town requires a key, which is provided to you. After 11 p.m. the only access is through the monitored vehicular gate.
As an apartment rental, breakfast is NOT included. However, you have a kitchen with the usual appliances and there are a couple of lovely cafes, bakeries and markets just a 5-10 minute walk away from which you can gather provisions, not to mention several nearby restaurants and cafes that serve a variety of breakfasts and other meals.
The entire apartment, the outside areas and the parking space in front of the apartment are at your exclusive disposition along with shared use of the covered swimming pool and gym, according to rules. Driving directions and manager contact information provided shortly before your arrival date. Shared and private van/taxi service to and from airports at Leon and Queretaro take about 75-90 minutes, depending on the circumstances of your travel. Road time for flights in and out of Mexico City range between 3 and 4 hours, more or less, depending on traffic. Taxis from the San Miguel bus depot may take about 15 minutes or so, depending on traffic, with a base cost of $4.00 USD, more or less. Daily pool use is complementary for two with a small fee for additional use. Workout at the gym everyday but Sunday for a modest fee. Staff available to answer any questions at pool desk from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Other things to note
Wi-fi is available througout the entire home. Occasionally, as everywhere, there can be an outage. In your host's experience, it is now a rarity, but it can happen. If there should be an outage and you need to be connected, there is wi-fi available at many restaurants and coffee shops, including Starbucks, located nearby, at the jardin. Internet speed may not be as fast as that to which you are accustomed in your home country. In your host's experience, the overhead fans in bedroom and living room keep the home reasonably cool when it is warm and the wall heaters in every room can take the chill off on winter nights and mornings. NOTE special instructions for successful use of the bathroom heater. Some guests are surprised by winter chill in Mexico during November-March. Buildings are built to keep heat out the rest of the year; in Winter, interiors get chilly overnight and do not warm up due to sunshine alone, no matter what the exposure of windows. Please come prepared in Winter with a sweater, bed socks, slippers, etc. as you need for your personal comfort. Warm bedding and a couple of down throws are in the apartment for you. Heaters are in every room for use when you are home and awake.
The kitchen is outfitted with standard equipment used by a typical guest; if you have special cooking or entertaining plans, please bring or purchase the equipment you require. Your rental price includes twice weekly maid service and on-call local manager assistance in English, Spanish and Japanese, with meet & greet upon arrival.
Multiple months consecutive stays may benefit from a discounted rate. Daily, weekly and one month (30 days) listed on Airbnb site. Minimum 4 night stay at all times of the year. No smoking. No pets. Have fun while respecting your neighbors. Pool use for two is included. Modest fee for other swimming pool access and another for use of exercise equipment arranged with clubhouse staff. A deposit will be required, the amount depending on the length of stay. Please provide your estimated arrival time as soon as you can along with a cell phone and number, if you have one with you, and a direct email so my local manager (Yoko at (EMAIL HIDDEN) can more easily contact you about meeting you with a key at the apartment upon your arrival in San Miguel.
As owner, I interact through the visitor handbook at the apartment, by any dialogue you need through the Airbnb website or by phone. Please be sure to review the handbook upon arrival, as many of your questions will be answered there. It includes practical information for the apartment's operations, as well as suggestions for activities based on my personal preferences after more than a decade of visits to San Miguel de Allende. My local manager, who is fluent in Spanish, English and Japanese, will meet guests upon arrival and arrange to retrieve keys upon departure, as well as remaining available to assist with resolution of problems, should any arise during your stay. Please let Yoko know of your arrival time and manner as soon as you know, but no less than 3 days in advance of your arrival date so she can make arrangements to meet you upon your arrival. A twice-weekly maid service is calculated to relieve you of the hum-drum so you can maximize your enjoyment while in San Miguel de Allende. Note normal check-in is after 3:00 p.m. and check-out is by noon.
