The Cabin is a very unique, eco-friendly, repurposed structure from a former workshop/art studio. Well insulated, its walls are made from a special material with a foam core inside (not visible and does not include bedroom walls).
New Upgrades: There have been many recent upgrades, including stronger wifi (works perfectly), strong water pressure (but please do not take long showers), and tile floors freshly redone (please do not drag or roll suitcases across tiles or they will scratch!).
It is very centrally located: 30 miles from the gate at Yosemite, 15 miles to Oakhurst (on the way to Yosemite) where there are shops, thrift stores, restaurants, and grocery stores; 24 miles to Bass Lake where you can swim, rent boats, hike, picnic, etc. during warm weather lake is at a low level due to drought); 30 miles to Fresno.
Friendly hosts are further down the driveway. You are welcome to visit the main house, meet us, and have some great/fun conversations, or not. Just ring the bell on the right side of the main house (past the stairs) at the big wooden doors.
In dry summer conditions, use of BBQs is discouraged. However, smoking is ok in designated outdoor areas as long as an ashtray is used. Please ask for one of us to show you where outdoor smoking is permitted and we will supply you with an ashtray.
The Casita easily holds 4 people. However, it will hold more if two people can share a futon, or someone brings a crib or playpen, or wants to use a sleeping bag inside or outside on the deck, so please do contact us ahead of time to make special arrangements for extra guests. Also note that children, certainly welcome, DO count as guests at any age whether they use a bed or not. It has been our experience that every guest has an impact on the dwelling, whether it's cleaning, or heat /AC utilities, or water, or noise, wear and tear/stains on the furniture or rugs, or all of the above. People who try to sneak extra guests in without paying for them will be confronted with my Irish temper and reported to Airbnb!
NOTE: lower Winter rates are now in effect, and you do not have to contact us first if you would like to stay here. Just check our calendar and if it's available, simply Instant Book it!
Interaction with guests
We love meeting and interacting with our guests, and you are always welcome in the main house during the hours of 10 am to 8 pm. When you arrive, at your request, Ginger or Michael can go over the maps for Yosemite with you down at the main house so your visit will go smoothly and you will know where the main attractions are in the Park. Just come down to the main house upon your arrival, or if coming in late come down after 9 am next morning and ring bell on right side of house. (See hours above.)
Some people come up here to just get away from it all for a while. If you prefer total privacy, just let us know via email ahead of time and we will certainly honor your wishes. It is very common that people just come up here to our peaceful place to take in nature and de-stress :-)
Please also note that this is not a party house, hotel, not owned by a corporation and we are not a part of the billionaire, millionaire or 1% club. This home is the product of a lifetime of our own hard and honest work. It is beautiful, but please do not resent it or take anything from it that is not yours.
We are looking for quiet, friendly, respectful & especially honest guests. Towels & linens are provided at the beginning of your stay but belong to the cottage when you leave. You are welcome to use the washer & dryer in the main house during daytime hours - just ring the front doorbell around the right side of the house. Bring books, games, cameras and binoculars, hiking boots and enjoy the beautiful views and retreat-like atmosphere and abundant wildlife (absolutely no hunting permitted) on this mostly natural 5 acre property). Reminder: in lieu of a cleaning deposit, it is your responsibility to leave the Cottage clean and neat. Dishes must be well-cleaned and put away, counters and the stove cleaned of food spills, trash put in the outdoor trash cans, etc. You do not need to make the beds. Thanks!

I am a native Californian formerly from Santa Barbara, San Diego, and the Bay Area. I have been living in the beautiful Sierra foothills for over 16 years now, and love the peace, slower pace, and living so close to such a wide variety of wildlife. Having been self-employed most of my life in various businesses, including writing, publishing, graphic arts, and real estate, my true love is music and I have had my own rock 'n roll bands (many years ago, sigh).
Now I am an on-site Airbnb host and enjoy meeting friendly, intelligent, and good-humored people (who don't mind my cats:-)
Michael, my husband and co-host, is also from a musical background: Retired rock singer and band leader, Grammy Award-winning artist manager, & former concert promoter. We were married and singing together in the '60s-'70s but sadly, we separated 43 years ago. The amazing news is that thanks to the Internet, we reunited and fell in love all over again, and remarried 3 years ago. We are very grateful that true love finally prevailed after all.
Michael has become a great on-site host and either or both of us will do our best to take care of you and go over the maps of Yosemite so you don't miss anything important!
We are an older couple but we enjoy meeting interesting people of all ages from all over the planet. Welcome to our oasis!
