Further details..
Let me take you on a little tour :) ...........

If you arrive at Central Station, which is a 15 minute train ride from Schiphol airport, you can walk to my apartment within 3 minutes. More centrally located, you cannot find.

INSIDE THE APARTMENT.....

My charming home is a large, 2 floor apartment of 90m2 which you will have entirely for your own use, located opposite Central station on the edge of the Jordaan and the canal district.
Located on the top 2 floors (2nd and 3rd) of an authentic old Amsterdam house, you have no upstairs neighbours, a downstairs neighbour who's away most of the year and no audible neighbours either side. It's an unusually private and peaceful apartment in an exceptional, ultra urban location. Being a busy inner city location, right in the hub of urban activity, in a city where everyone is packed together, there is often some street noise from the (pedestrianised) street below and the curtains do let some light in. I have rented the space for 6 months and had more than 40 bookings before anyone found this to be disturbing, but if you are sensitive to sound or light then this may not be the apartment for you as the bed is currently located at the street side of the building.

The main sleeping space is located on the second floor, along with the living and kitchen, whilst bathroom and toilet are located upstairs on the 3rd floor. Please note that the bath is not currently in use, as we have not had it installed yet but the shower is perfectly functional.

Let's start on the 2nd floor which is the entrance floor of my apartment.....

You enter the apartment into the living/dining area. The dining table, which accommodates 3 chairs, is in a spacious and light window side spot. It's perfect for sitting with friends, working, or of course enjoying a home cooked meal or a takeaway picked up from one of the 100's of local restaurants.

Walking through the long, wooden floored space, with sofa bed, to the front of the apartment you arrive at the generous sleeping space. Being approx 18m2, with huge wall to wall authentic old windows it's very light and has a wonderfully classical feel. There is an original marble fireplace ..... It's a magical space! There is an antique chest of drawers and a modern clothes rail with hangers so there's no need to live out of your suitcase.  Two antique, velvet covered knitting chairs are perfectly positioned next to the window for watching the street activity below. Perfect for an elegant cup of morning coffee from the fabulous, classy, French boulangerie/cafe below :) ...

There is an extra large bed with a mattress by luxury brand Auping which, being brand new, is extremely comfortable and very clean. The main sleeping area is separated from the rest of the floor by part wall/part room divider. On the other side of the room divider is the sofa/guest bed which can sofa by day and guest bed by night with a simple click system. It's a top of the range designer sofabed by Innovation, also very comfy.  Next to the sofa bed, there is a television on which you are able to play DVD's of which there is a nice selection for you to choose from. Being small, you can easily move the TV and DVD player to the main sleeping area should you wish to.

The apartment has a beautiful old wooden staircase with original details and this leads up to the top floor where the bathroom and toilet are located. Immediately infront of you, when arriving at the top of the stairs, you will find the (by Amsterdam standards) large bathroom/dressing room with it's delightful enormous windows and exposed brick wall.  It's a really nice spacious dressing room, with a long window seat, where you can spread yourself out a bit if you are staying here with friends and wish to dress in privacy. For your privacy there are ceiling to floor blinds which totally cover the windows but let the light in.This room also houses the separate shower cubicle, which is a small, typically Amsterdam cupboard style shower with separate washbasin. Basics such as toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner are provided as are soft white fluffy towels. The gorgeous freestanding bath is not currently available for use but the shower is fully functional. There is unlimited hot water on demand and there is a clothes drying rack, a Miele dryer and iron along with spare bath and bedlinen. In the corridor there is a washing machine and washing liquid is provided.

In the large, separate kitchen there is a microwave, large 5 burner hob for proper cooking, modern very large fridge/freezer and of course lots of plates and glasses, pots and pans etc.. Please note that in the depths of winter the kitchen feels cold. By way of a 'door' it has a curtain which I like to keep drawn to keep any draught out of the rest of the apartment but this can make it feel cold to be in. In the month of March, the weather usually takes a dramatic turn for the better and this becomes less of an issue. During January and February, though when temperatures can be -12 outside, the kitchen does feel cold and walking in to get something from the fridge or turn the microwave/kettle on might be all you would want to do! From March until November this is not an issue.

The rest of the apartment has plenty of radiators and we are delighted with our efficient new boiler. The central heating is very effective. Simply turn the heating on at the thermostat and the apartment will be warm within minutes. However, if you are coming from a warm country in January or February, please bring slippers, wooly socks and a fleece, as these old Amsterdam apartments do not get super warm in the depths of winter.

A lot of care goes into the cleanliness of the apartment which is thoroughly cleaned between guests. I am very clear in asking guests to work with me in dealing with Amsterdam's mice problem. Absolutely every thing edible has to be kept in the fridge and crockery and cutlery needs to go straight into the dishwasher after eating. This is the Amsterdam way and I ask guests not to book if they are not prepared to adopt this way of maintaining hygiene standards:) Thankyou.

Oh yes, and the apartment has a solid wifi connection of course :)

Sometimes, if I want to fill a few unbooked days, you will see those days marked in the calendar @69 euros a night. This discounted rate is not available on any other days than the ones marked in the calendar.

OUTSIDE THE APARTMENT.....

My apartment couldn't be easier to find, day or night. As I have a key safe, you can arrive anytime of day or night and access the apartment yourself. When possible, I will meet you myself and show you around the apartment. But if not, the house manual describes everything in detail.
The apartment is located on a pedestrianised street lined with many shops, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. It's an extension of the award winning shopping street Harlemmerstraat/Harlemmerdijk, voted Holland's best shopping street 2012 and full of delightful, creative shops and cafe's. In the other direction, within 10 minutes you can walk to Dam Square. You can also take a tram 2 stops if you wish to, as there are many trams which pass by.

In any direction that you walk, you will find all the attractions of Amsterdam both greater known and lesser known. You don't need a bike or a car to explore from this location although it's possible to hire both in the vicinity. Bikes can be rented from Mac Bikes at central station.

The Albert Heijn supermarket is 30 paces down the same street and it's open from 0800 til 2200 every day. Late arrivals or night owls will be able to find plenty of snackbars and falafel bars open til 3 am in the immediate vicinity.

During the day everything from chic cafes to fast food joints are accessible within minutes so there is plenty on offer to suit all tastes and moods.
Itake great pride in hosting my guests with attention to detail and a warm and friendly (British) service. I'm at hand to ensure your stay in Amsterdam is as comfortable and fun as it can be and would be delighted to host you.

You are heartily invited to come and stay at my lovely place :)

  • A nice place in a neighborhood with nightlife ! Large indeed, clean and very well decorated, an inspiration for my own flat !
I didn't have the chance to meet Scrarlett, but no problems with the check-in/check-out process.
    I do recommend this place.

  • We did not meet Scarlett, but she was very attentive - answering emails and queries very quickly and being very helpful. The apartment is light and airy, the bed pretty comfortable and the decor quite hip. There was a little (human) street traffic noise at night, but it was no real bother. The shower was good and powerful. The location is more than ideal: perfect for the station, but also for the canals and the rest of the city. The museums are a 20 minute walk - and a lovely one. An excellent spot for the city.

  • Scarlett was a very responsive and welcoming host. Check-in/out was very simple and convenient, the apartment is in an excellent location and looks exactly like the pictures. Thanks Scarlett!

  • Gut gelegen Wohnung.

  • The apparent is great very close to the center and to the cetral station. Easy to get to everywhere in Amsterdam. The shower is very small.there is a lot of stairs a little bit hard with the lugged but we managed. Scarlet is very nice and helpful for whatever you need for your visit.

    October 2013
  • We stayed in the apartment for 5 days during September. 2 adults + 2 kids + 1 baby.

The location was great, very close to all the major location and train station (for the airport). The home styling is lovely and you just feel at home. It was a little difficult with all the steep stairs - both to the apartment and in the apartment (specially with baby trolly and small kids).

Scarlett was very responsive and you could always get her by email.
