Our one-bedroom apartment is a lovely and calm space to call home for your stay in to the Echo Park/ Silverlake area. Please see our reviews from the happy guests who have spent time here!
This is an airy and spacious one-bedroom furnished apartment, available for short or long-term stays, on a tranquil street in the Echo Park enclave of Elysian Heights. Minutes to the shops and restaurants of Silver Lake and 10-15 minutes to downtown and Hollywood attractions.
Enter your cheery yellow door into the open living/dining area, with all modern amenities: skylights, wood laminate floors, cold A/C, full bathroom, Wi-fi, flat screen TV with free Netflix and Hulu streaming. Comfortable queen size bed in bedroom, huge West Elm sectional couch. The space is equipped with a small and fully stocked kitchen (stove, microwave, toaster, refrigerator and small sink) AND your own washer and dryer.
A queen size air mattress also available by request, as well as a pack n'play or crib & twin size Ikea chair bed. This is a guest house in an owner-occupied triplex and we (the owners) are easy to reach if you have any questions about the place (how the heck does the remote work again?) or the neighborhood (where's the best place to get fish tacos/ vegan ice cream/ a glass of wine?) **We are also happy to provide free guest passes to the world famous and invite-only Magic Castle in Hollywood to our guests.**
It's is a wonderful place to land for new transplants to LA, those here on temporary work assignments, or tourists, especially families.
Interaction with Guests
While we live on the same property, this apartment is private and self-contained. We're always available and delighted to answer questions or if anything comes up during your stay, but we like independence when we travel, and give that to our guests as well. We don't often cross paths with our guests after check-in (although you very well may hear our kids playing in the backyard, which is outside of the living room window.)
A car is highly recommended, though it's just a 10-15 minute walk to a bus stop, 3 cute cafes and new shops and boutiques along Echo Park Boulevard.
Other Things to Note
We don't charge a cleaning fee, and we do deeply appreciate when guests tidy up a bit when they leave.
No smoking and no drug use tolerated.
Out of consideration for our guests with allergies, we do not allow pets.
This is a residential neighborhood & your walkway passes by two bedrooms; if coming in after 10pm, please keep noise to a minimum along the walkway.
Melissa was a great host, very helpful and responsive. The neighborhood was great and quiet. The place was pretty much as described. Our only criticism was with the cleanliness of the apartment - we had to clean the floors and take out the trash on our arrival. The couch and curtains were also a little smelly.
Melissa is an excellent host. She was friendly, accommodating and communicative- she even put an extra desk in the property at our request. The apartment is on a quiet street and has everything you need (including a great washing machine and dryer). Ideal for those who want to stay in the heart of East LA- walking distance to Sunset and a number of great restaurants.
Overall Melissa and Ryan made us feel very welcome and we would definitely return!
My family was in town for a wedding and chose to stay here instead of a motel. I am really glad we did! This lovely apartment with the sunny yellow door was bright and sunny inside with a wide open living room with a really comfy couch, small fully equipped kitchen and separate bedroom. It is in a lovely quiet neighborhood in a very hilly section of the city, far enough away to seem apart from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to be convenient. Melissa is a wonderful hostess who suggested nearby places to eat. She and her family live on the property but you hardly know they are there. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to crash in LA be it for a few days or a longer period. Definitely beats a motel!
Melissa was very welcoming & ready to help if anything was needed.
The apartment was well kept , has a comfortable bed & is equipped for a comfortable stay.
The walk up to the apartment was steep & a bit difficult to use if you are an older person.
We were glad we chose this B&B for our visit.
My parents were very pleased with their stay at the Echo Park Retreat. Only five minutes walking distance from my sister's house, they felt at home and found comfort in this safe and quiet neighborhood. If weather had permitted (not at an extremely rare LA heat of 104F), they would have walked around the neighborhood for a nice morning and evening exercise. From just up the "steps", you can see the beautiful L.A. downtown skyline!
The location of the Retreat was quite ideal. Only short drive to downtown LA, sunset strip, hollywood, korea town, griffith park, dodger stadium, pasadena and as well as the magic castle (free invitation from the Host!). If renting a car, there's an ample parking on the street, but a covered parking space was also available if requested.
The Retreat was very spacious, clean, quiet, and fully equipped. Whenever my parents had a problem or a question, the Host/Hostess was polite and quick to respond. Privacy was not an issue either. Since my parents were out most of the day, they relaxed and enjoyed themselves in the evenings at the Retreat. Especially with amenities like Wifi and entertainment connection (netflix, hulu, vimeo, youtube etc), they were able to occupy themselves without feeling uncomfortable and bored. The place truly felt like Home to them.
My parents are looking forward to returning again the next time they visit my sister and her family.
Thank you Melissa & Ryan for taking good care of my parents during their stay; making them feel at ease like they were at their own home!
Melissa was an amazing host, she provided everything needed and gave a clear information about the direction and accessing the apartment.
The apartment was clean and organized as described. My father and my brothers enjoyed their stay in Melissa's place and they really had fun with Melissa's husband one night when he visited them over for a dinner.
I would recommend this place for a friend.
What a great apartment! It was the perfect amount of space for a single person or couple, and the location was very central to my travels. There was plenty of street parking, a super comfy bed, and all the amenities you could want, plus Melissa and her kids made me treats when I arrived! Would highly recommend staying here, and will do so again on my next trip to LA.
