Rainforest House - Lower Suite

House - Private room · R. Getúlio Vargas, Ilha grande, Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Space

This listing is for the lower suite when the house is not rented whole. It is the same listing as the Rainforest House. Room or entire house is available to rent. Muito Obrigada!

This house is located on Ilha Grande, Brazil, a tropical island paradise 3 hours from Rio de Janeiro. The island is located in the Angra Bay and is the largest of 365 islands. The island is 60 square miles of mountain covered rainforest and 106 beaches. There are no cars, no roads just miles of hiking trails and plenty of boat trips to beautiful locales. The island is rustic but offers plenty of amenities - restaurants, shops, travel agencies, internet cafes, laundry etc. The house is located in a private area 20 minutes from the center and 10 minutes to the nearest beach. There are two big suites with bathrooms. One room has a double/queen and the other has a double/queen and a single bed. There is also a sleeping loft with outside bathroom. Internet access is available and there is hot water in all showers. The house has incredible views of the mountains and forest as well as the bay of Ilha Grande and the dramatic Brazilian coast. It is situated on a trail to one of the most celebrated beaches in the world - Lopes Mendes.

Inquire for prices on renting a suite for a couple of nights or a week or the entire house. Holiday pricing is also subject to changes from what is listed on the site. Ilha Grande is an amazing place and offers everything for adventure and nature seekers - monkeys, exotic birds, surfing, hiking, rappelling waterfalls, and more..

Please note: if you hate nature, don't like to hike or are afraid of the rainforest, this probably is not the place for you. You must walk 10 minutes across the town beach and climb another 10 minutes on a rainforest trail to arrive at the house. Our guests have a unique experience at the Jungle House and we are delighted to provide it, but the main attraction is the secluded and gorgeous location... we use the trail as do 6 nearby houses, day or night, rain or shine... if you have a sense of adventure and a hankering for something authentic, please come! BUT Don't forget your flashlight as rolling blackouts happen frequently (in summer, but you never know!).

Please inquire for holiday pricing. Packages are required for Carnaval, Easter, Brazil day, Christmas and New Years.

  • To sleep in the middle of the nature at the rainforest house changed the all vision of the Island. The breakfast was so good and we loved Nando's smoothie (avocado with oats). Jair, Jen and Nando are really nice people !!
    It was amazing !

  • Heaven! There is no better place on the Island. Clean, modern Design. And the view! Stunning. If you like to live a few days in Heaven (away from tourists, but near enough to get in touch if you need) - go there! Ilha Grande is a great Adventure. So is this place.

  • We stayed 4 nights in this lovely place. It actually is a little bit far from the town (15min), but if you like the nature and want to experience jungle feeling, this is the place to be. The view on the bay is amazing and it is really peacefull.i think its much nicer than staying downtown. Every day, ricardo prepared a great breakfast for us! Jair and ricardo were very helpful for everything and we felt a lot at home. They have adorable dogs. Bring your flashlight for coming home in the evening and a raincoat since it might rain sometimes. We recommend staying at the rainforest house. Thanks for everything!

  • Rainforest House is the perfect place to kick back for a couple of days on Ilha Grande. Either enjoying the view, sunbathing on the wooden terasse, reading in the hamocks or walking through the jungle, we had a great time whatsoever. Jair and Ricardo took good care of us with a sensational Breakfast ( toast, cereals, fruit, cheese, egg, ham and freshly squeezed juices-Yummy!) and lots of info on where to go and how to get there.
The trail up to the place is not too long (10-15 mins from the beach), sometimes pretty steep and rocky, and definitly worth the effort. Me and my girlfriend will stay there again if we ever get a chance to go back to Ilha Grande.

  • We were very pleased with trying something "different" than just the beaches. The rainforest house is only a short walk from the beach, but is very secluded (and cooler and darker at night - best sleep in a long time!). We had Casia make us a delicious breakfast to start the day, and then you can take one of several trails to the different beaches. See you next year.

  • The hosts were very helpful and welcoming, breakfast is great. We loved being a little removed from the village. The lower suite is nice and mosquito net aroud the bed really great, but what would make the experience even better is a fan and better isolation between the upper and lower floor. If you are a light sleeper, then the amplified sound of steps and conversation upstairs can be disturbing. Overall, we had a great time on the island!

  • We had a great few nights with Jair. We loved the place, the breakfast and even enjoyed the walk thru the jungle to get there. Would stay here again.

  • Superb experience of nature and everything nice.
The Jungle Lodge is a beautiful and very relaxing place. Air is fresh and the view is great. It takes about 20 mins to go to the beach so you are not in the middle of the sometimes a bit tourist-heavy beach-town. And when you do get to the beach from here, you are in the right end of the beach to walk to the more secluded beaches.
Breakfast is great! The facilities for cooking are good. The rooms are nice and quite basic. The bed gets fresh sheets every day which is very nice. Mosquito nets in the rooms and also flashlights are provided which you will need if you walk home after dark! There is a few mosquitoes and other insects in the evening but not as much as you could expect when you live inside the jungle. Lots of comfy hammocks. And the staff is extremely nice!! Jair speaks good English, and is very helpful Casia is very helpful and good in Spanish, Nando speaks some English and is the awesomest guy ever. And there are other English speaking staff members too. The staff members rotate between here and the Beach House, so sometimes there will be people who speak english, sometimes not. The house also has maps and some books about Brazil and Ilha Grande. Also there are some sweet dogs and a very calm cat called Morgana. Unfortunately no internet though.
And in all fairness be aware that the walk up and down from town/beach is quite an exercise and you'll be sweaty. But beautiful too!
    Highly recommended place!!

  • The rainforest house is something special. We had a great time there. If you like animals, the color green, the forest sounds, the beauty all around you, the quite.. This is the place. And Cassia, Nando, Jen, Jair and Lulu the persons you ll like to meet. You better take backpack and not wheel luggages because the hike is a little hard the first day. And good shoes for all the trilhas in the island. We stayed there for a week, and we love to come back, and take Cassia´s breakfast once again.

  • All in all a good experience but there are a number of things people must be aware of: the house is really lost in the jungle, you can only access it via a small climbing path. Not a big deal, 10-15 mins walk but it becomes a problem at night if you get lost... And when you have big luggage (50 reals per porter per bag each way...). Welcoming is nice but English is limited which makes it difficult to communicate. Other than that, beds were cosy and shower was warm, nights are very silent so good rest. To conclude, it is a great place to feel out of the jungle and lost in the middle of nowhere, perfect for adventurers !

My wife and I are consummate travelers. We divide our time between Brazil and the US being a couple of mixed nationalities. I am Brazilian and from Rio de Janeiro originally. I came to Ilha Grande 18 years ago and have been a tourism guide in Brazil and a boat captain in the US and Brazil. I am a surfer, hiker and skater. I love radical sports and nature. Staying at the jungle house is a special experience and one you will not have in any other place. As a guest, I will give you as much information as you want about the island, the nature, the activities or leave you alone to experience it as you please. I am delighted to host people from all over the world and share our special island.
