A small cottage, we liken it to the French gîte concept, set in a mature garden beside a quiet road amidst tranquil farmland, yet within ten minutes of a great cappuccino, the majestic coast, megalithic sites, artisan restaurants and much, much more.
My wife and I are peripheral publishers with home-based office, so you can have access to all the communications you require while on holiday. However, we recommend communing with nature while here.
We are quiet and unobtrusive, but have a wealth of local knowledge to make your stay memorable. Our interests are eclectic, so you let us know what it is you would like to discover while visiting and, in all likelihood, we can point you in the right direction.
We love good food ourselves and can supply meals made with stunning local produce if required. In the summer months you may occasionally have to share our acre of mature wooded garden with swallows and grandchildren. Sometimes simultaneously.
The accommodation consists of a double bedroom, bathroom and living space, including a small kitchen, on the ground floor plus a first floor with dormer windows suitable for sleeping two children (three at a pinch).
Despite the tranquillity, and apparent remoteness, we are only 6 km from the bustling market town of Skibbereen. The area is ideal for walking and cycling in addition to being a good base to explore the rugged peninsulas at our doorstep.
Unfortunately, this part of Ireland is no longer served by the railway network. The national bus service operates buses through Skibbereen with reasonable frequency. So a car, while not totally necessary, would facilitate seeing the breadth of sights in the locality. However, we can collect you from the town if required.
This is a unique corner of the world where the community still have time for their neighbours and for the odd stray tourist. It is more beautiful than the famed Ring of Kerry but with a fraction of the visitors and none of the tour buses.
Our guests have a self-contained light and airy cottage with oil-fired central heating, free wifi and free to air satellite TV. More importantly, access to our garden and the surrounding nature.
We live opposite the cottage so are always present, but we are unobtrusive and are happiest when guests feel free to organise themselves. We are more than happy to help or advise though.
The peace and quiet and our lovely neighbours.
There is a ±5 times daily Cork to Skibbereen bus which we are happy to bring people to or collect them from. We have a couple of bicycles which are freely available. There is car rental at Cork airport and free spacious parking at the cottage.
Beautiful cottage. Nice views. Comfy bed. Lovely breakfast and accommodating hosts. Highly recommended
A really lovely comfortable cottage and very kind, accommodating hosts.
I had such a lovely time at Brendan and Gloria's cottage. It truly is located in such a peaceful, green, and quiet rural location. This was my first trip to Ireland and what I envisioned Ireland to be came true in this lovely location. The town that is close by, Skibbereen, is also a charming small town that I enjoyed as well. The location is pretty out there, so I highly recommend having transport. Gloria and Brendan generously let me use one of their bicycles and I had such a great time cycling the surrounding roads and to and from Skibbereen. I would highly recommend a stay at this cottage as it is a very unique and cozy place, but also for the chance to meet two very lovely people. You will be so glad that you did. Thanks again for everything, Brendan and Gloria!
All was just as described above, what can I add?
The accomodation is brilliant for a couple, with or without a couple of kids. As a couple of adult kids my daughter and I had a magical week fishing prawns from lough Hyne, munching crab claws from Fields in Skibbereen, and savouring the quickness and charm of our hosts' wit.
Gloria and Brendon are host wordsmiths in the greatest of Irish traditions and you'd have missed out if you pass them by.
Brendan and Gloria's self-contained cottage is just perfect for 2-4 people seeking a quiet, rural setting. The garden is beautiful and the cows over the back fence are very friendly. The cottage is clean, modern and spacious. It contains everything you could wish for. Gloria and Brendan were excellent hosts and we have no hesitation in recommending them to others.
a fine cottage in a rural setting. you'll enjoy the quiet and the beauty of the hills as well as very kind hosts.
The accommodation filled the needs of our family perfectly. Although adjacent to the main house we were quite private. The cottage is tastefully decorated and a pleasure to stay in.
We thoroughly enjoyed our explorations of the surrounding area.
We had a lovely relaxing stay. The cottage is really well kept, clean and fresh with everything you need for your stay. Gloria & Brendan even had fresh bread, milk, jam etc left in the cottage on our arrival. We would recommend anyone looking to stay in the Skibbereen area to consider the cottage.
Gloria and Brendan have been fabulous hosts, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay near Skibbereen. The cottage had a lovely open plan feel and the attic was cosy and roomy. We'd stay again if travelling in the area again..
Brendan and Gloria were fantastic hosts. The cottage was perfectly suited for peace and quiet. Brendan and Gloria even had some odds and ends of fruit and cereals which was perfect when getting ready for a day of wandering the countryside. They were amiable, and were able to provide us with a plethora of suggestions for things to see and places to go while we were staying with them.
Overall, a great experience, I would definitely recommend them and would gladly stay with them again.
