A Rooftop garden right in the middle of an uber cool student/artist neighborhood, quiet and serene up top, busy and bustling down below, surrounded by bars/cafes and restaurants, close to the MRT and convenient access to just about everything.
We’ve been hosting with the Skygarden apartment for about a year now, what a privilege it has been to spend time to meet the wonderful people that have come through, we're grateful for every one, each teaching us something more about what it is to host, to serve and to nurture a space into a home. We flick through our guestbook from time to time and are often touched, we don’t ask for deposits, or cleaning fees, we just trust in our guests, and are always rewarded with kind souls passing through, contributing good vibes. This is a quick salute to you, dear guest, for helping us make what Skygarden is becoming. We couldn’t have done it without you.
So with Skygarden we have a rustic rooftop apartment, in the heart of Taipei, private rooftop garden patio, Small home gym and barbecue. Open, airy and beautifully unique, it has been described as stepping into Bali from the city and many have commented that it's hard to believe a place like this exists in Taipei. We can sleep up to four (we have an extra queen size thick foam mattress, a double airbed and a couple of single thinner floor mattresses that can be laid out in the living room, a very comfortable couch too! But to keep things comfortable space wise we would really rather top out at four.) would suit a couple or small family looking for an inner city haven or therapeutic space.
At our doorstep is a supermarket, ATM, 2 organic shops, a park, a throng of vegetarian buffets, a bakery, a Starbucks (if you really need one), amongst a bohemia of other cafes, coffee shops, bars, boutiques and uber-cool hangouts. 7/11s and fruit juice/tea kiosks (never far away), fast food, slow food, Gonguan shopping district, night market, cinema and food haven is a 5 minute walk, Shida shopping district, boutiques and markets 10 mins walk away, the river, with its cycle tracks, bike rentals and parks can be reached in 15, the MRT is 10, Taida campus with a beautiful little lake, University sports field running track, gym and other campus amenities less than 10, Treasure hill artists village around 15, Da’an Park with the weekend flower and jade markets slightly more than 15, but there is nothing I can think of that is not almost instantly within reach. We even have a water park 10 minutes away which we've been told is actually rather nice.
In the apartment there is 1 main bedroom, with a huge solid work desk, a living room, hot shower and bath, aircon, kitchen, washing machine, when living here we mostly eat raw food, but there is a fridge/freezer with a couple of gas rings to cook too.
We have a clean fast Wifi internet connection, A TV in the closet we never use, but if you get really desperate for Taiwanese game shows, we could probably be persuaded to pull it out for you.
we don't have a car so don't know much about parking, but we're sure if you need it, just let us know and we’ll endeavor to find a solution.
With this place you're almost right in the center of everything, CKS memorial hall, an amazing vast space and temple with a concert hall only a few stops on the MRT, as is Ximending shopping and weird district, and wanhua, the oldest part of Taipei with its sprawling night market and infamous "snake alley" only a short cheap taxi away Taipei main station and the hot springs to the south. Xinyi/Taipei 101 is about a 15 min cab ride, or short bus/MRT trip away, Zhongxiao big commercial shopping district, the quiet peace of Daan park next to the bustling Yongkan street market, and the bade road computer and gadgets area also just up the road by bus/MRT.
We’d live here full time, but we travel often and really it’s a space that begs to be shared. Our lives are richer with others in it. So enjoy the atmosphere, water the plants and have fun!
Everything, please treat this as your own place
We interact where we can and offer suggestions of things to do, but also leave you to your own adventure if that's preferable if you're interested in the things we're doing we're happy to invite you along.
The Neighborhood is full of amazing places to eat, we're collecting business cards from them all, but if any of you find a little gem or two you would like to contribute please feel free, our mission is to buid a guide to this area to help people get the most out of it. some of our favourites include, so free pizza, Sababa (Mediterranean cuisine), Tjs cookies (just next door to Sababa) Vegelicia (vege food), the chocolatiers (just opposite) le petit moment (french themed), cafe Bastille (great for Belgian beer), Odeon (very trendy cafe/bar, open late)
The night markets at Shida and Gongguan are also brilliant, too many places to eat.
Very convenient, between MRT and Ubike stations, it's very easy to register for you bike, instructions at the terminals in English and Zhongwen, just buy an easycard (for the MRT) and the rest is simple. the first half hour is free then after that it's only 10NT (30cents) per half hour!
Stayed 2 nights at the Skygarden, and i must say it's location is simply amazing. You need not worry about going hungry as there are lots of cafes and food places nearby, and even a supermarket beside to cater to your daily needs. A word of advise, remember to make arrangement with Tom to bring you to the place as it's hard to find. Tom is a friendly and patient man who will explain the do's and don'ts and also where to go and eat. Overall, i had a great experience at Skygarden.
I decided to book the Skygarden apartment because I had a few busy days working, in meetings in Taipei and wanted to do something different. This lovely apartment was definitely different. It was very simple and calm and peaceful. It is also well positioned near many good shops and restaurants. The transport is also easy, whether you need to catch a taxi or use public transport. Many thanks Tom - I shall come back to have a few more days and enjoy it properly with my family.
All the best to you both!
It was a lovely and quiet place to stay in Taipei. It is located in Daian that got a lot of good and nice restaurants, cafes and bookshops around. If you are looking for a different experience of visiting Taipei, the Skygarden will surprise you. In fact, it surprised all three of us that after so many Taipei trips, Skygarden definitely provides us a whole new experience!
The flat is clean and well designed that you may even spend a day there, cooking meals and reading books. :) There is a really a nice collection of books!
Will definitely visit again :)
Tom is so polite and kind, the apartment is delicately designed for a cozy and peaceful place either for sleep or for reflection, there are so many green plants both in and outside of the room, we enjoyed the comfort table and chairs under cool bamboo shade. There was a plug connected to 2 loudspeakers, insert it to my iPhone then we were surrounded by beautiful music!!
Great location, great view from the roof top. Tom is a super nice guest! He helped us with our luggages, which I am very much grateful for. Clean room with all necessities.
Our stay at Sky Garden Apartment was more than we hoped for. It was a clean, comfortable, spacious apartment with great character in an interesting, convenient location that provided an excellent central location with food and sights starting at the front door, while still providing the quiet and solitude that allowed for complete relaxation. The host, Tom, was very responsive to all questions and issues. It was an excellent stay. I give the maximum of 5 stars and recommend it to others.
This is a really lovely apartment, in a charming neighbourhood, with excellent transport links to the rest of the city. The apartment itself is well equipped, comfortable, and quiet, and a very pleasant space in which to work or relax. Tom is a warm and thoughtful host. I'd recommend staying here very highly indeed.
Sky Garden is a unique oasis amidst a bustling city. The area has a bohemian vibe and is great for those looking for a non- touristy experience. Food options are aplenty and great and two train stations are within walking distance which will bring you anywhere in Taipei. Very good wifi and hifi are provided too. Thank you Tom for the follow up and assistance from the time we booked to the actual meeting where you gave succinct
and valuable orientation to the place!
Skygarden is a beautiful place in an excellent location. Tom and Kate are wonderful hosts and I recommend it highly. Kate went out of her way to help us arrange train tickets for our onward journey, for which we are very grateful. They were also kind enough to allow us to leave our luggage till we had to depart the city, which was a great help. We had a most enjoyable time in Taipei thanks to staying in such a lovely home.
Thanks～
