We had stayed in Skygarden for three weeks. It is a place full of characters, with different cultural elements in its various decoration details, and having a vibe of a local tea house. For a longer stay, you might at times long for a bit more creature comforts, but if you aim f…

I stayed for a month at Kate's place two summer's ago, and this summer I returned for another month. Coming back to Kate's was like coming home. It was just as comfortable as I remembered it to be. Working with Kate was great. When a lightbulb blew on the terrace she came by th…

Overall it was a great place to stay. Access to such expansive private outdoor space was fantastic, and Kate was extremely responsive throughout. Though there were two outstanding issues that became problematic during our stay: Obviously, mosquitos are a fact of life in Taipei,…

We really wanted to like this place, however there were some major disappointments at this airb&b during our 3 night stay in Taiwan. Jane was a really great host and helped us get settled in. She was in communication with us beforehand and greeted us at the door because we had so…

Response from Kate:
This is a rather surprising review, but thank you, Tommy, for taking the time to let us know about your experience. There are some things that we wish you would have informed us about during your stay as it would have made a difference. Also I think if we had had more time to talk on your check-in day, some things could have been avoided too. Unfortunately things did not work out better. I believe the host "Jane" in your review is referring to me - Kate. Please see the following reply regarding the issues you pointed out: 1. Mosquitos: I'm very sorry to learn about this. Yours is the worst case I have heard from any of my guests or from my own experience living here. The night before you arrived, I stayed there myself, didn't use the mosquito net and it was fine. Due to the fact that mosquitos are very common in Asia, we always emphasize the importance of closing the screen door properly at all time. But from time to time we get guests who are not used to the sliding doors and screen net. When I arrived at the apartment after you checked-out, I saw that you actually left a whole portion of the sliding door unclosed. It took me quite a bit of time to get ride off all the mosquitos. Properly using the mosquito net at night can prevent the problem 100% of the time. 2. Cleanliness- regarding your concern about a strand of hair in the bath tub and suspected the bed sheet was not updated: we change the sheets, pillow case, duvet covers, and towels after every guest leaves, even if the guests stay for only one night. We also wash all mats, the carpet, couch covers, and blankets regularly. We wash and sterilize the bathroom thoroughly after every check-out. If I missed a strand of hair in the bath tub, I apologize. I will be sure to pay extra attention in the future. If you were concerned about the sheets, a simple message would have done the trick. I would have been happy to change the sheets again for you, whatever the reason. I’m sorry you felt the need to include this assumption in your review. 3. The Patio: I apologize that it is not as nice as how it looks in the photo. The time of your stay was just after the raining months in Taipei. In the winter when it rains a lot, the garden area is not only very green, but it’s also harder to do maintainace work. I had been waiting for some good sunny days to do a big clearing and maintenance on the garden. And this week it is done. Sorry that it didn’t meet your expectation when you stayed here. 4. Duvet is too small and no extra ones: the duvet you used was a nice quality standard double size down quilt duvet. And besides that, we have 1 more duvet, and 2 more thick blankets in the walk-in closet. Guests usually find them no problem, and once again this could have easily been answered in a message or call. We exchanged (Hidden by Airbnb) , and had a lot of communication before and on the day of your arrival. We also discussed and got the extra help you needed all through (Hidden by Airbnb) . You should have already known that I am a responsive host. Too bad this was not asked at the time you needed it but written in the review instead. 5. Shower curtain: we don't believe in plastic products. This apartment and it's bathroom is decorated with beautiful wood, colored tiles, and bricks. We like to keep it as natural as possible. We also believe this is the exact reason why most our guests choose to stay here. So the solution we provide is a pair of slippers in the bathroom to use when floor is wet. Guests can also turn on the air exhaust to make it dry faster. 6. Tried to leave the heater on and wondered if I went in and unplugged it: First of all, we don't go in to the apartment without getting permission from the guest. Second, it is written clearly in the house rules that all home appliances should be turned off when guests leave the apartment. The kind of heater in the apartment is not meant to be left on all day long. It is not a central air conditioning system. If the heater turned off itself, my guess is the safety device in it switched it off automatically when it over heated. It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy the stay and I wish things had worked out better. I appreciate the parts you wrote about things that I could have done better. Please know that your suggestions will benefit the guests in the future. All the best.

Kate’s place was “home away from home” where you’re inspired to cook, write, create, pray, mediate. It feels so comfortable and so charming that you don’t want to rush out the door too soon. The garden is a haven especially on a beautiful day. Spent some mornings doing some work,…

Hi Christine, It was a pleasure meeting you and your wonderful family, it felt more like having a family friend staying over than guests who we just met. If you are in Taipei again, would be my pleasure to host again! Warmest regards to you and the family. Kate
