About this listing
A Rooftop garden in the middle of a mega cool student/artist neighborhood, quiet and serene up top, busy and bustling down below, surrounded by parks, bars/cafes and restaurants, close to the MRT and convenient access to just about everything.
We’ve been hosting with the Skygarden apartment for over two years now with hundereds of very happy guest passing through, it's been a privelage to spend time to meet you all, each teaching us something more about what it is to host, to serve and to nurture a space into a home. We don’t ask for deposits, we trust in our guests, and are almost always rewarded with kind souls passing through, giving good vibes. This is a quick salute to you, dear guest, for helping us make what Skygarden is. We couldn’t have done it without you.
So with Skygarden we have a rustic rooftop apartment, in the heart of Taipei, private rooftop garden patio, Small home gym and barbecue. Open, airy and unique, it has been described as stepping into Bali from the city and many have commented that it's hard to believe a place like this exists in Taipei. We usually sleep 2-3 but can sleep four if pushed (we have 2 extra queen size foam mattresses, a double airbed that can be laid out in the living room, a very comfortable couch too!) would suit a couple or small family looking for an inner city haven or therapeutic space.
At our doorstep is a supermarket, ATM, 2 organic shops, a park, a throng of vegetarian buffets, a bakery, a Starbucks (if you really need one), amongst a bohemia of other cafes, coffee shops, bars, boutiques and uber-cool hangouts. 7/11s and fruit juice/tea kiosks (never far away), fast food, slow food, Gongguan shopping district, night market, cinema and food haven is a 5 minute walk, Shida shopping district, boutiques and markets 10 mins walk away, the river, with its cycle tracks, bike rentals and parks can be reached in 15, the MRT is 10, Taida campus with a beautiful little lake, University sports field running track, gym and other campus amenities less than 10, Treasure hill artists village around 15, Da’an Park with the weekend flower and jade markets slightly more than 15, but there is nothing I can think of that is not almost instantly within reach. We even have a water park 10 minutes away which we've been told is actually rather nice.
In the apartment there is 1 main bedroom, with a huge solid work desk, a living room, hot shower and bath, aircon, kitchen, washing machine, when living here we mostly eat raw food, but there is a fridge/freezer with a couple of gas rings to cook too.
We have a clean fast Wifi internet connection, A TV in the closet we never use, but if you get really desperate for Taiwanese game shows, we could probably be persuaded to pull it out for you.
we don't have a car so don't know much about parking, but we're sure if you need it, just let us know and we’ll endeavor to find a solution.
With this place you're almost right in the center of everything, CKS memorial hall, an amazing vast space and temple with a concert hall only a few stops on the MRT, as is Ximending shopping and weird district, and wanhua, the oldest part of Taipei with its sprawling night market and infamous "snake alley" only a short cheap taxi away Taipei main station and the hot springs to the south. Xinyi/Taipei 101 is about a 15 min cab ride, or short bus/MRT trip away, Zhongxiao big commercial shopping district, the quiet peace of Daan park next to the bustling Yongkan street market, and the bade road computer and gadgets area also just up the road by bus/MRT.
We’d live here full time, but we travel often and really it’s a space that begs to be shared. Our lives are richer with others in it. So enjoy the atmosphere, water the plants and have fun!
Everything, please treat this as your own place
Interaction with Guests
We interact where we can and offer suggestions of things to do, but also leave you to your own adventure if that's preferable if you're interested in the things we're doing we're happy to invite you along.
The Neighborhood is full of amazing places to eat, we're collecting business cards from them all, but if any of you find a little gem or two you would like to contribute please feel free, our mission is to buid a guide to this area to help people get the most out of it. some of our favourites include, so free pizza, Sababa (Mediterranean cuisine), Tjs cookies (just next door to Sababa) Vegelicia (vege food), the chocolatiers (just opposite) le petit moment (french themed), cafe Bastille (great for Belgian beer), Odeon (very trendy cafe/bar, open late)
The night markets at Shida and Gongguan are also brilliant, too many places to eat.
Very convenient, between MRT and Ubike stations, it's very easy to register for you bike, instructions at the terminals in English and Zhongwen, just buy an easycard (for the MRT) and the rest is simple. the first half hour is free then after that it's only 10NT (30cents) per half hour!
We like to respect the neighbours by not making a huge amount of noise, a bit of noise is fine though.
There are a few plants in the house, if you could keep them hydrated and feeling great that would be brilliant, we trust your judgement.
Please enjoy the space and feel very much at home, its a wonderful place and we request you show it the love and care it wants to show you.
At the end of the stay if you could have a quick whip round and tidy, leave it nice for whoevers comes to enjoy it next, we'd be all the more grateful. alternatively we can arrnage a cleaning fee to have someone else come to do it.
About the Host, Tom And Friends
5 things we can't live without?
We Watch who we are from moment to moment enjoying the movie, differrent to who we were yesterday, and probably not who we'll be tomorrow, The experience of being us is a happy one.
Tom: "I began travelling the world from a young age looking for myself, it felt great to be able to try on different personalities and live a different stories.
Although I'm certain my globe journeying is not nearly over, my biggest discovery was that myself was not actually outside myself, it changes everything, now I dont mind much where I go on the outside, I just enjoy connecting with whoever happens to be looking back at me, making the most of this extraordinary and deliberate existence.
I create time by evolving in martial arts, muay thai, brazilian jiujitsu, boxing and wrestling, meditaion, breathing, self medicating energy psychology principles and practice, healing, personal coaching, neuro linguistic programming and clean language, ayurveda and chinese medicine, breathing, massage, kinesiology, live and peaceful nutrition. Architecture, design, graphics, journeying, film production, photography, landscapes, nature, permaculture, sustainable building, gardening, extremities (all things tall, fast, large and exciting), art, painting, playing music, dancing, joking, smiling... In these many years of exploring I'm reminded often life is very much a gift and how we choose to live it is our gift back. My goal is to develop a space that can make shifts in people as they use it, something that can return them to an expanded state of being, It's a great education for a holistic wellness and human potential retreat center I dream of bringing into existence one day."
We particularly like being on Airbnb, we love to see people enjoying the space of our place. it's quite different. and when no-one is there, we love nurturing it, theres something about nurturing something that brings out the best in everyone. it gives us the opportunity to create an environment that serves, gives people a little taste of heart, something more natural in the heart of the city.
We hope you will enjoy staying and thank you in advance for givng us the opportunity to contribute to help making your stay awesome.
The world is giant playground, better play in it!
