The Space

Discover an architectural gem just a short walk from the beach, Heavenly Ski Gondola (just voted #1 Ski Destination by USA Today) and Heavenly Village. Nestled behind a private meadow and a pair of twin pine trees is our "Chalet de Celeste". Our contemporary mountain home was just completed in 2012 emphasizing natural materials with an artful combination of Italian marble and travertine, tumbled river rocks, Brazilian mahogany, glass railings, floating staircases, hand scraped hickory floors, Miele appliances and Grohe finishes throughout.

Surrounded by protected pine forest, the Chalet contrasts rustic elements with a distinctive contemporary design. Although inspired by the Swiss mountains and traditional elements, no modern luxury has been spared. Traditional and vernacular materials, such as wood, stone and glass, create the modern accents of "Alpine chic". The exterior is reminiscent of traditional Wood-Strickbau Chalet styles of the Gomsertal Valley in Switzerland.

The entry terrace to the Chalet has a stone barbecue grill to prepare light meals outdoors while enjoying refreshments. Surrounded by pine trees, it is also a good spot for bird watching. During summer, the outdoors are a serene setting for guests to relax in the hammock. Summertime sunsets are particularly beautiful, at this time of day the treetops are bathed in hues of gold and rose. In wintertime, the idyllic meadow directly across the Chalet transforms into a snow covered area for fun sledding with children.

Entering the Chalet through a slate warming room, the heart of the custom home is the great room. This encompasses the open kitchen, the dining area and the living room. The gourmet kitchen has walnut Studio Becker cabinets, Miele stainless steel appliances, a built-in wine fridge, under and above cabinet lighting, and ample cookware. The white Calacatta marble island seats three. The open-plan kitchen combines a contemporary style of living with authentic mountain atmosphere. The combination of wood, stone and glass reinforce the traditional Chalet feel.

The dining table and benches are made from reclaimed Indonesian teak wood with seating for 10. The living area has ample seating on the brompton cocoa leather sofa and club chair. The 60" flat screen can be seen from all areas of the great room. There is also an iPod integrated in-wall home theater system. The vaulted floor-to-ceiling windows soar to 30 feet high and automatically lead the eyes out to the picturesque pine tree valley and mountain views. This is the perfect place for entertaining, shooting a game of pool, and relaxing after a long day of skiing next to the glass enclosed gas fireplace.

An elegant custom floating wood and glass staircase beneath angled skylights leads from the living area to the master suite. This is truly a retreat with a spa-like master bath with his and her vanities, Italian travertine walls and floors, a walk in multi-head steam shower and granite bench, heated floors and towel racks, and Toto washlet. The steam shower offers a relaxing and rejuvenating therapy for weary muscles from skiing or outdoor activities. The master bedroom has 20 foot high vaulted ceilings and windows, queen sleigh bed, and full pine tree views.

The other two bedrooms are on the first floor. The first has a queen sleigh bed. The second bedroom has two twin sleigh beds. There is a bathroom next to the lower bedrooms with a dual head shower and soaking tub, glass blocks, linen closet, dual vanities, heated floors and towel racks, and Italian ceramic walls and floors. The washer and dryer are on this level as well.

There is a spacious light filled Library loft above the living room, offering a wide selection of coffee table books along with travel guides, novels, board games and reference materials. The open Library loft has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the pine forest meadow in front of the Chalet. This part of the home is perfect as a second living area for the kids or as a private sleeping retreat for the in-laws. The leather sofa in the living room can also be converted into a queen sized bed.

The home is adorned through out with custom artwork and furniture of which many pieces are designed by members of our family.

On the back side of the property a jetted wooden clad hot tub awaits sunken into its own private outdoor terrace, featuring a dressing area surrounded by the Sierra Nevada pines. This is a great place to lounge around, soak, and enjoy time with friends and family. Here one also finds a sun umbrella set between two teak loungers.

There is private parking for up to 2 vehicles on the property.

We designed this Chalet to take full advantage of the natural light and Heavenly Valley mountain views, and hope you enjoy the stunning combination of natural materials and exquisite product selections that truly set our dream home apart.

  • Chalet de Celeste was absolutely perfect! 7 girls spent two amazing nights enjoying the home and the surrounding area. We all live in the SF bay Area, so this was a perfect getaway spot to enjoy great company & a beautiful setting. The house was just as pictured. I'd say its a modern country style with some high-end upgrades to the bathroom and living spaces. The neighborhood was quiet; we were there at the end of May for a Friday & Saturday night, but very close (6 min-drive) to the state-line and Heavenly shops. The house fits 2 couples and 2 others easily. There is a loft space with a small futon that serves as an extra bed. The couch is also comfy & could fit an additional person, so if you don't like sharing beds the three rooms are not enough for a large group. The floor plan is great for conversation and entertaining, very open.

Mark is fantastic. He was very prompt in responding to questions and checking in as we were getting closer to the date of arrival. He provided some fun things he likes to do and gave good insights to the surrounding area. It made for a very smooth trip.

We will definitely be looking to come back and hopefully stay here again!

  • This place was incredible. Perfect place to spend our anniversary. Walking distance to the water and shops and state line. Highly recommended.

  • This home was very comfortable to stay in with great modern amenities that I hadn't known would be included. The location was great - an easy drive to restaurants and Heavenly. We comfortably fit 9 people and had room for a few more. This was also one of the only places we could find with a private hot tub! I would recommend to those looking for a cross between mountain living and modern luxuries.

  • Marks place is amazing & it has everything you need to enjoy an ideal escape. Close to everything & far enough away to enjoy the peace & quiet that the pine forests of heavenly. Close to transport to get yourself on the slopes of heavenly resort! Enjoyed the stay, thanks Mark.

  • Great place to stay for a snowboarding weekend! Just enough room for 5 people, awesome hot tub, nice add-ons (heated floors and towel racks, fancy toilets!), adorable and warm gas fireplace, quiet area. About 5 mins drive to the Heavenly gondola and casinos. Kitchen isn't huge but has everything you need plus an array of appliances for the more adventurous visitors! It took 3 of us to figure out how to turn on the induction cooktop but other than that, all good :) Our only complaint was the lack of drapes in the master bedroom - it would be a crime to cover up these picturesque windows, however we cannot sleep past 7am without darkness :(

  • The chalet is one of the most beautiful homes I've ever seen, let alone stayed in. The service by the host was prompt and professional and checking in and out were a breeze. We'd love to visit again!

  • Lodging: The house sleeps 8 very comfortably. It could sleep more, but I'm glad we kept it at 8. We had 2 in each bedroom and 2 in the loft area, everyone felt like they had their own private space, and no one had to sleep in the downstairs living room/common area.

Location: The house is about a 15 min walk to town (retail, restaurants, casinos, grocery) and less than a 5 min drive to the Heavenly Mountain Resort (California Main Lodge). The neighborhood is safe and a great place to access running trails.

Luxury: We enjoyed the pool table, hot tub, fireplace, home theater surround system, and pancake griddle! :) Everything is modern - kitchen, bathrooms, decor. Hardwood floors throughout. LOVELY.

This is one of my fave AirBnBs. I would totally recommend staying here. We'll be back again. Thanks for sharing, Mark!

  • Cozy modern chalet and beautifully appointed. The owners clearly have an eye for design, and the pictures are a very clear representation of the property. The beds were some of the comfiest i've ever slept in, and the whole house is fitted with a very efficient heating system so we were never cold despite the temperatures outside. The hot tub and steam room shower really is a nice treat after a hard day on the mountain!

The house is also very conveniently located for the nearby California lodge ski lifts, less than 5 minutes by car. My friends were all totally blown away when we arrived, and we're all eager to come back again soon. Thanks Mark!

  • This is a gorgeous property that really completes the Tahoe experience! I spent a weekend here with a group of friends and it had everything we needed and more! The furnishing is modern and all the appliances are fairly advanced (the bathroom upstairs has a bidet, doesn't get any better than that!). The mattresses are memory foam, so super comfortable. The property is stocked with extra towels, sheets, pillows, so don't feel the need to bring your own. If you plan on cooking, I recommend going through the kitchen cabinets because there are a lot of sauces and seasoning that you can use. The in-built sound system is amazing, and the house is actually quite soundproof. Pool table, hot tub, TV's in every room, board games (in closet of twin bedroom downstairs), and proximity to Heavenly are a huge plus! Mark is very responsive and helpful as well. Only thing is that there is an extensive list of check-out procedures, so be sure to give yourself enough time to clean up.
