This efficiency apartment is in a triplex in Travis Heights, one of South Austin’s coolest neighborhoods. A green oasis in the heart of Austin's popular activities.

LOCATION - Visit Zilker Park (2 mi.) with Austin's jewel - Barton Springs Pool. View the bats from Congress Avenue bridge at twilight before you head downtown for nightlife (2 mi.). This is an ideal location for going to the Convention Center, anything downtown, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Bus stops are 3 and 5 blocks away.

FREE BIKES - Two bikes are at your disposal, good condition Specialized Crossroads, upright seating hybrids with 7 gears.

WELL EQUIPPED - This cozy space has everything you need for a weekend or longer. High speed reliable WiFi. 39" flat screen TV with Internet and expanded cable (200 channels and all HBO channels). Guests get one On Demand movie free and as many more as you want at $5 each.

The kitchenette has a sink, fridge, electric burner, microwave, toaster oven, and Krueg coffee maker. The kitchen is stocked with a variety of coffees (including organic) and teas, milk, sugar, honey, canola oil, filtered water, and a few other treats - always chocolate.

COMFORTABLE - Enjoy the fabulous queen bed with a memory foam mattress, 5 types of pillows, and modal (beech) satin sheets. The shower has an adjustable rain shower head, but no tub. The bathroom is stocked with all natural shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, moisturizer, and a hair dryer and other toiletries. Lots of adjustment options on the new remote controlled AC/Heat unit.

"GREEN" FEATURES - I use all natural cleaning and laundry products and chemical-free pest control. There is an allergy filter in the AC. As much as possible, the apartment has natural or organic fibers, low VOC paint, and products that don't out-gas.

PRIVATE - The apartment has its own entrance and one off-street parking place. It is separated from the other two apartments. I live in one of the apartments and have a long-term tenant in the other. You may or may not see us. The front porch is shared with my apartment.

  • Kathleen's apartment was charming. It was stocked with everything we could possibly need...snacks, fancy shampoos, sun screen and even nail polish remover. I would definitely stay again next time I'm in Austin!

  • Adored the place and all the many details inside made it home for a couple days. Would never consider a hotel in the area if this property is available. Kathleen was attentive and it felt like she was ready to assist at any time if anything came up.

  • We absolutely loved staying with Kathleen! She was warm, helpful, good humored and responsive. The place is small but extremely well organized, the little extras she provides go a long way to adding to creature comforts, and it's in a great neighborhood if you have a car, are a walker, or are willing to use the great city bikes she makes available. Thumbs up from us!!

  • This was a fabulous place to stay and Kathleen was such a great host! The place had everything I needed plus more and having access to the bike was a great bonus.
I definitely plan to come back and stay here again in the near future!

  • Stayed at Kathleen's for four nights in Austin. Great place to stay. The bikes she provided are worth their weight in gold. Kathleen also had other nice little touches (mentioned below). Would definitely stay with her again should we return to Austin. She's definitely set the new bar for our future AirBnB stays!

Why Kathleen's place is *above average* compared to a 3-star hotel:

-She is very communicative and accommodating. She let us print out some paperwork and even brought it down to us!
-The bikes are very useful for getting around town w/o a car. Kathleen provided a bike pump, a couple of helmets, lights, bike locks, everything you would need.
-Kathleen provided a small supply of snacks, drinks, and chocolates. Made it feel a little like home when you can come in from the airport and get a bowl of soup with a club soda, straight away.
-Though we didn't take advantage of it, Kathleen offers one complimentary on-demand movie. She certainly makes every step to try and make her place feel like home.
-Kitchentte was about as stocked as could imagine. Mini-fridge, hot plate, utensils. Could definitely make a meal there.

Why Kathleen's place is *below average* compared to a normal, 3-star hotel:

-Location is decent but a little bit further than most other 3-star places. It was about a mile walk to the main drag in SoCo. Easily accomplished via walk during a warm, pleasant night or using the bikes that are provided.

  • Kathleen's studio was perfect. It was in a quiet location but also very close to everything you would want in Austin which was perfect. We kept marveling at how she had thought of absolutely everything. The bed was ridiculously comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again if I find myself in Austin.

  • Kathleen's SoCo vacation rental is a great place to stay while exploring Austin's outdoor activities and nearby retail. The apartment had everything we needed and more. The included bikes allowed us to get to the shops on South Congress, the museum garden at Zilker Park, and the capitol with ease. It was also great to have cable TV, snacks and Keurig K-Cups available for downtime. Great host in a great location in a great city.

  • Our stay with Kathleen was so wonderful. The apt is extremely cozy and really close to anything you want to do in Austin... and we wanted for nothing. She had the place stocked with anything you could need during your stay.

  • My husband and I stayed at Kathleen's apartment and it is very comfortable! It has a private entrance and own parking space. She had everything that we could possibly think of in there - Snacks, coffee/tea, cable tv, toiletries, lots of towels, bikes, helmets, locks, baskets, etc... Much better equipped than a hotel and much cozier. I will definitely stay here when I visit Austin again! Also it is in a great central location.

  • My friend and I went to SXSW 2014. We didn't want out stay to end! Kathleen has a lovely 1 bedroom place fit with everything you could ever need, including all your home away from home comforts. Kathleen was very helpful and accommodating. The bikes were a lifesaver as it is a short pleasant ride into town and a short walk to awesome South Congress.
Thank you so much! Looking forward to next time in Austin :)

About
I have lived in Austin most of my life. My family moved here in 1959 when my father got a teaching job at UT. I spent my twenties in beautiful Boulder, CO then came back home. I feel fortunate to live in one of the coolest neighborhoods in one of the most interesting and livable cities. In September 2012, I converted an efficiency apartment in my triplex into a short-term rental. I love meeting the guests. Hearing what guests from Europe to Hawaii observe about Austin has broadened my perspective. I am a writer and editor and work from home. You can see more about that at the website for Littlepage Projects.
