The Space

This efficiency apartment is in a triplex in Travis Heights, one of South Austin’s coolest neighborhoods. A green oasis in the heart of Austin's popular activities.

FREE BIKES - Two bikes are at your disposal, good condition Specialized Crossroads, upright seating hybrids with 7 gears. Helmets, locks, lights, bungee cords, front basket all provided.

WELL EQUIPPED - This cozy space has everything you need for a weekend or longer. High speed reliable WiFi. 39" flat screen TV with Internet and expanded cable (200 channels and all HBO channels). Guests get one On Demand movie free and as many more as you want at $5 each.

The kitchenette has a sink, fridge, electric burner, microwave, toaster oven, and Krueg coffee maker. The kitchen is stocked with a variety of coffees (including organic) and teas, cream, sugar, honey, sweeteners, canola oil, filtered water, and a few other treats. Dishes, pot and pan, utensils all provided.

COMFORTABLE - Enjoy the fabulous queen bed with a memory foam mattress, 5 types of pillows, and modal (beech) satin sheets. The shower has an adjustable rain shower head, but no tub. The bathroom is stocked with a hair dryer, Aveda shampoo and conditioner and all natural shower gel, moisturizer, and other toiletries. Lots of adjustment options on the new remote controlled AC/Heat unit.

"GREEN" FEATURES - I use all natural cleaning and laundry products and chemical-free pest control. There is an allergy filter in the AC. As much as possible, the apartment has natural or organic fibers, low VOC paint, and products that don't out-gas.

The calendar is always up to date. Feel free to use Instant Book. The space is not suitable for more than two guests.

This property is licensed by the City of Austin (OL2014003555) and 15% state and local hotel occupancy taxes are included in the price.

Guest Access

PRIVATE - The apartment has its own entrance and one off-street parking place. It is separated from the other two apartments. The digital lock will be set with your code.

Interaction with Guests

I live in one of the apartments and have a long-term tenant in the other. You may or may not see us. The front porch is shared with my apartment.

The Neighborhood

WALKABLE - Sit on the porch and watch the bird feeder and butterfly garden under the giant oak tree, then take a 10 minute walk (3/4 mi.) to the nationally recognized eclectic collection of South Congress shops and restaurants. This historic neighborhood has beautiful homes from the early 1900s and innovative modern homes that were built last week.

Getting around

LOCATION - Visit Zilker Park (2 mi.) with Austin's jewel - Barton Springs Pool. View the bats from Congress Avenue bridge at twilight before you head downtown for nightlife (2 mi.). This is an ideal location for going to the Convention Center, anything downtown, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Bus stops are 3 and 5 blocks away. Taxis are readily available. Several hourly car rental services available. Enterprise is close by.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • The neighborhood is quiet but close enough to key Austin sights. The room is small-ish but very clean, comfortable and well-stocked! The kitchenette is idea if your plans include not eating out all the time....fridge is stocked with sparkling water and ice tea. There is a Keurig coffee maker (a morning god-send!) and just about everything you need to prepare simple meals. Same goes for the bathroom - no lack of towels, even extra toiletries. There's a porch chair and table outside but you are welcome to sit on the front porch of the main house. You'll have your own parking space too. Kathleen is very welcoming and friendly. Great place!

  • My stay at Travis heights was amazing! Kathleen was lovely - welcoming, informative and had the studio very well equipped, lovely walks and very easy to get around ( even for my friends to locate me). A peaceful stay and first time I have ever done something like this. Highly recommend! Thank you Kathleen!

  • My wife and I spent 5 nights at Kathleen's BNB. The room was very clean when we arrived. The atmosphere was very home like. There were numerous amenities including, plenty of towels, toiletries, and Keurig K-cups, raw sugar and cream. The location of the BNB is very close to the South Congress area, Downtown Austin, South Congress bridge bat watching, 6th street entertainment, Barton Spring, and many other smaller and hip neighborhoods. Kathleen was excellent host and her BNB is the standard that I will compare future airbnb stays.

  • Our stay at Kathleen's tuck away studio in beautiful Travis heights went superb. She had everything we needed to make our stay most comfortable. She was kind and we felt at peace being there.

  • The Travis Heights studio was exactly what we wanted--private and charming, with a nice bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, air conditioning, and off-street parking. We loved the snacks and beverages Kathleen left for us. She was so sweet, and made our stay very easy. We'd definitely stay here again if we're ever in Austin!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kathleen's guest unit. From our very late arrival to our departure 3 days later everything went smoothly. Check in was simple thanks to Kathleen's helpful instructions posted outside the door. The interior of the unit provided everything that we needed and expected, including some seriously comfortable sheets! The kitchenette was a nice touch, allowing us to store things in the mini fridge and make coffee in the morning. The bathroom was spacious and had everything from sunscreen to Q tips. A big plus to this unit was the 2 bicycles (and locks) that let us explore the Travis Heights/South Congress area (about a 5 minute bike ride/10 minute walk to the main South Congress shopping and dining). Getting to downtown Austin is easy as well, about a 10 minute cab ride. We were so glad to have met Kathleen on our second day; she was very kind, made sure we had everything we needed and gave us information and tips about the area. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this unit to anyone visiting Austin.

  • This appartment is exactly as described and Kathleen is a gracious, lovely host. We loved having the bikes to get around town, we enjoyed the central, yet quiet location, we had a great time on the front porch eating, watching birds and squirrels and chatting with Kathleen, and above all we slept really well. Very highly recommended!

  • This was a perfect stay! Kathleen's studio was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable, the room equipped with adjustable A/C and fan settings (extra helpful if you are adjusting to the warmer weather!), and even though we ate out most of our meals, it was so handy to have a kitchen for leftovers/snacks/morning coffee/etc. The bathroom had lovely Aveda products, plenty of soft bath and hand towels, and lots of little extras that we might need, like sunscreen, beach towels, toothpaste, bug spray, etc. It was great having (free!) access to her fantastic Trek bikes, which also included locks, helmets, water bottle, a basket, spare tire, pump, etc. (basically anything you would need). There was a wonderful selection of Austin-related materials available like guide books, magazines, and maps. You can tell that Kathleen has put a lot of thought and care into making sure that her guests get the most out of their stay and feel right at home. She (email hidden) and very accessible and helpful before and during our visit. I highly recommend Travis Heights Hideaway SoCo studio and would definitely stay here again!

  • I stayed in Kathleen's studio for a week and liked it very much. Travis Heights is a beautiful Austin neighborhood, just south of downtown and close to Town Lake, South Congress Avenue, and Rainey Street. The studio is small but nicely planned, with an efficient, well-equipped kitchen and a well-proportioned bathroom. I worked there during the week--the wifi connection is fast and problem-free--and the only drawback for me was the poor outside light from the room's one small window. I moved out to the beautiful porch--just what it looks like in the photos--the few times I felt closed-in and had breakfast and lunch at the table there on days that I didn't go out. Kathleen (email hidden) and I was happy to get to know her a bit. She obviously wants her guests to enjoy their stay in Austin--she's a life-long Austinite--and that comes through in the care that she takes with the studio.

  • Kathleen's studio is a gem on the outskirts of the South Congress hubbub. She has turned a small studio into a super comfortable retreat, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. She pays attention to the details - the things that make traveling easier - such as, prompt communication, simple check-in procedures, and kitchen/bathroom supplies. And Kathleen is such a lovely person and fantastic host to boot! Great place to stay.

I have lived in Austin most of my life. My family moved here in 1959 when my father got a teaching job at UT. I spent my twenties in beautiful Boulder, CO then came back home. I feel fortunate to live in one of the coolest neighborhoods in one of the most interesting and livable cities. In September 2012, I converted an efficiency apartment in my triplex into a short-term rental. I love meeting the guests. Hearing what guests from Europe to Hawaii observe about Austin has broadened my perspective. I am a writer and editor and work from home. You can see more about (email hidden) for Littlepage Projects.
