Interaction with Guests
I live in one of the apartments and have a long-term tenant in the other. You may or may not see us. The front porch is shared with my apartment.
WALKABLE - Sit on the porch and watch the bird feeder and butterfly garden under the giant oak tree, then take a 10 minute walk (3/4 mi.) to the nationally recognized eclectic collection of South Congress shops and restaurants. This historic neighborhood has beautiful homes from the early 1900s and innovative modern homes that were built last week.
LOCATION - Visit Zilker Park (2 mi.) with Austin's jewel - Barton Springs Pool. View the bats from Congress Avenue bridge at twilight before you head downtown for nightlife (2 mi.). This is an ideal location for going to the Convention Center, anything downtown, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Bus stops are 3 and 5 blocks away. Taxis are readily available. Several hourly car rental services available. Enterprise is close by.
Have fun and respect the neighborhood. Please don't smoke in the apartment. Please keep the bikes locked up all of the time. If you need a washer and dryer, you are welcome to use the ones in my apartment.
Perfect! Everything was so well prepared. Instructions were super clear, some bite foods were available in case. This is way better than what I would have expected out of any hotel.
Kathleen was the perfect host. She has the nicest place in a cute quiet neighborhood. Close to downtown, Congress, 6th , Food trucks, etc, etc... We will definitely stay with her again!!! A++++++++
What a fantastic place to stay. Kathleen has thought of everything and is an amazingly hospitable, kind person. We only stayed two nights, but it felt like home. Can easily walk to SoCo for food and shopping. Will definitely be staying here again next time I'm in Austin.
We had a lovely stay at the cozy Travis Height Hideaway. It was a great location for biking around Austin and the bikes/locks/helmets were imperative without a car. The apartment had everything we could possibly need and then-some. We appreciated the coffee/tea, seltzer water, and small snacks. The sun block, beach towels, and first aid kit came in handy. We would definitely stay here again!
Kathleen was a great host! Very helpful and sweet! She had plenty of maps and tour books and gave us good advice about where to eat and visit. Her studio apt in the back of her house is very clean and cute, complete with Keurig coffee, cream, and snacks! So thoughtful and welcoming. Her home is very pretty and is located in a beautiful neighborhood. We had a car, but you could definitely easily walk to South Congress Ave or to the river.
We absolutely loved Austin and loved staying in Kathleen's studio! Thank you Kathleen!
Kathleen was a wonderful host! She was very sweet and welcoming. The apartment was very comfortable, and I loved the keurig coffee in the morning and the bathroom was very clean and nice. The location of this place was absolutely perfect, seriously so close to everything. I would love to stay here again!
Kathleen was an absolutely lovely, warm, and generous host! She greeted us when we arrived, gave us a quick tour of the property and its amenities, and made sure we were comfortable. Her space was clean, cozy, and well stocked with anything you could imagine you could need! Having access to bikes was a huge bonus; we used them the entire trip to explore Austin. One of the bikes needed some adjustment, so she took it to the bike shop right away and had us on the road within a couple hours of our arrival. Her property is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and, on bikes, we were able to easily visit all the places we wanted to see. Kathleen was also quick to respond to any questions we had and very accommodating when our travel schedule didn't quite sync up with her check-in/check-out times. We will definitely stay with Kathleen, should we find ourselves visiting Austin again!

I have lived in Austin most of my life. My family moved here in 1959 when my father got a teaching job at UT. I spent my twenties in beautiful Boulder, CO then came back home. I feel fortunate to live in one of the coolest neighborhoods in one of the most interesting and livable cities. In In 2012, I converted an efficiency apartment in my triplex to a short-term rental. It has gone so well that as of May 2015, the 2/1 apartment in the triplex will be on Airbnb full time. I love meeting the guests. Hearing what people from Europe to Hawaii observe about Austin has broadened my perspective.
I live in the third apartment in the triplex and work from home as the executive director of Truth Be Told, a small nonprofit that provides programs for incarcerated women.
