Interaction with Guests
Apartment A is also an Airbnb rental. I live in Apt B. I usually meet guests when they arrive and I'm available if you need anything.
WALKABLE - This quiet historic neighborhood filled with old oak trees is a 10 minute walk (3/4 mi.) to the nationally recognized eclectic collection of South Congress shops and restaurants. The unusual mix of homes is from the early 1900s to innovative modern homes that were built last week.
LOCATION - Visit Zilker Park (2 mi.) with Austin's jewel - Barton Springs Pool. View the bats from Congress Avenue bridge at twilight before you head downtown for nightlife (less than 2 mi.). This is an ideal location for going to the Convention Center, anything downtown, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Bus stops are 3 and 5 blocks away. Taxis are readily available and Uber is great in Austin. Several hourly car rental services available, such as Car2Go if you are a member. Enterprise is close by.
Have fun and respect the neighborhood. Please don't smoke in the apartment. Please keep the bikes locked up all of the time. If you need a washer and dryer, you are welcome to use the ones in my apartment.
This was by far the nicest air B&B I've ever been to! Kathleen really went the extra mile to make the space comfortable. Every amenity you could imagine was provided: from a luxuriously comfortable bed, a fully stocked kitchenette with snacks, a shower full of aveda products and a hair dryer, and two amazing bikes to borrow! I feel like she rolled out the red carpet for us and absolutely enhanced our time in Austin. Plus she is charming and inspiring: a bubbly saint of a woman who works tirelessly to help better the lives of incarcerated women in Austin. It was a true joy to stay with her!
This was an absolutely delightful experience and it had everything you could possibly need.... and then some. The space was so charming and well thought out. It was quiet and private... you'd never know it was one of three units. It's well within walking distance to South Congress. Kathleen was such a kind, warm-hearted woman and was readily available for us at all times. She even welcomed my cat that was traveling with us. She has all types of recommendations posted in the room that we found to be helpful. We had such an amazing experience and felt "at-home" in an unfamiliar place and there's so much to be said for that.
Kathleen was an awesome host! The apartment was absolutely perfect for us. My boyfriend and I had driven up from Corpus Christi, TX with our dog and the space was great. The location of the apartment was perfect. Travis Heights is tucked away and quite, but everything is very accessible by foot, bike, and car! We took the bikes out for a spin one of the days and it was an awesome way to experience Austin without having to worry about parking. The apartment itself is fully equipped with everything you'd need. First aid kit, fully stocked/equipped kitchen, bathroom has everything you need, and guide/travel books of Austin galore! The air conditioning was also great... It was very hot & humid when we were here!
If we come back to Austin, this is where we'll be staying. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
Kathleen was such an amazing host. So friendly and helpful. The place was immaculate and honestly better than any of the 4 star hotels where I have stayed. Kathleen has thought of anything that you could possibly need for your stay and was so much help with maps and directions as well as things to see and do on our stay. She turned us on to Barking Springs and our puppy had a blast! The apartment is the perfect size for one or two people. The neighborhood is very nice and good for walking. Although, my legs are sore from all the walking!! :) Such a wonderful experience all around and I can't wait to go back!

About the Host, Kathleen
I have lived in Austin most of my life. My family moved here in 1958 when my father got a teaching job at UT. I spent my twenties in beautiful Boulder, CO then came back home. I feel fortunate to live in one of the coolest neighborhoods in one of the most interesting and livable cities. In 2012, I converted an efficiency apartment in my triplex to a short-term rental. It has gone so well that as of May 2015, the 2/1 apartment in the triplex is on Airbnb too. I love meeting the guests. Hearing what people from Europe to Hawaii observe about Austin has broadened my perspective.
I live in the third apartment in the triplex and work from home as the executive director of Truth Be Told, a small nonprofit that provides programs for incarcerated women.
