Our cottage is a private detached backyard studio, with separate entrance, in a very convenient Mountain View location. This light filled space includes a large room with queen size bed, desk and huge closets. The corner kitchenette includes a sink, fridge, microwave and kettle, but there is no stove or oven. The cottage has its own spacious bathroom with skylight. French doors open out to a shared backyard with patio, lots of plants, vegetable garden and small lawn. The space can accommodate up to two people.
Our home is on a quiet street, but convenient to all you need for a perfect stay. We are a 10 minute walk to downtown Mountain View, where there is a small grocery store, fantastic restaurants and cafes, a pool, library and performing arts center. Also, it's a 20 minute walk to the Mountain View public transportation hub, where you can access Caltrain, VTA light rail and the bus. The Caltrain takes you directly to San Francisco or San Jose. We're a 30 minute drive to SJC and 45 minutes to SFO. If you’ll have a car, there is plenty of street parking. We are also a 10 minute drive to (website hidden) headquarters and other Silicon Valley companies. We're a 5-10 minute drive to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and other stores. This is the perfect place to stay if you are in town for a conference, for work, or to visit the region.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and a great value. Cheryl was a great host.
The cottage was my temporary arrangement for me as I was making the move out to the San Francisco bay area. At first only two weeks were available on the Airbnb calendar. I was looking for a place that I could stay for around a month. After contacting Cheryl and asking about the availability she explained that they were going to have some renovations done and they were going to stay in the cottage while they were being done. She said that she would have to think about it and get back to me closer to the time. A few weeks later she said that an extra week would be fine. I greatly appreciated this and it gave me enough time to find permanent apartment. Cheryl was a phenomenal host that was extremely kind and easygoing. The cottage is separate from the main house. At first it took me a little while to figure out the heating but after a few days it was great. I really liked that the door was keyless and just required a easy passcode for entry. The washer and dryer were extremely convenient and located in a separate entrance attached to the cottage. I did not use the patio much as it was a little chilly during my stay. However, it is extremely nice and would have definitely been great if it was warmer. The bathroom was extremely clean and had plenty of space as well as a nice skylight that gave plenty of light during the day. The main room was nice and spacious, the bed was comfortable, the closet space was great it even had good hangers. There was no TV and at first I was slightly concerned but after a few days I really began to like not having one. The kitchen area was great and had plenty of space. I did not cook or prepare much in the kitchen but if you wanted to make a salad or a cup of tea you could easily do so. Cheryl was extremely kind and let me use their iron and ironing board. It was all great! I attended several conferences and did not bring my car so I had limited transportation, so the location of the cottage was critical. In Mountain View the main downtown area is Castro Street and it's definitely within walking distance. This was great as I would usually leave in the morning and come back before heading to dinner. There is definitely a nice selection of restaurants in the area. There where a few times that I did go down to San Francisco and the CalTrain is also right at the end of Castro Street which is also in walking distance. For me it took around 15 minutes to walk Downtown. For anyone that is considering staying at Cheryl's cottage I would not hesitate. Yes, their are lots of other options but you will not find a place that is as comfortable and welcoming to stay in as the...
The stay has been excellent, great location in the valley. I would highly recommend it any time.
My husband and I love staying at the Backyard Cottage. We just completed our second stay and hope to stay again in the very near future. It is always quiet, clean and comfortable and Cheryl is very very prompt at replying to messages. You can't go wrong staying here!
A perfect location in Mountain View. This backyard Cottage is six blocks from Castro street and all the eateries and coffee houses. It is a lovely neighborhood to walk in. It is easy on to 101 and a few minutes to El Camino Real. The bed was great; the bathroom clean and well stocked with towels, etc. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave and toaster. The outdoor area is a lovely place to eat lunch in the winter sun and warmth. Cheryl is solicitous but not intrusive. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. FYI: There is no TV; but there is wifi.
We had a great stay at the cottage. It is conveniently located close to Castro St in Mountain View and people could use public transportation or car to access most of the peninsula if needed. We stayed during a cold spell and the cottage was cozy, warm, and comfortable. The efficiency kitchen is all you need especially if you are like us and like to eat out a lot. Thank you! I will definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone who wants to stay in the area.
I really enjoyed my stay at the cottage. I was relocating to the area and I found it very well situated, near the main Mountain View area and a stone's throw away from a large market area (Target, Wallmart, etc). You do need a car and you can easily park in front of the house. The access is very convenient, on the side and completely separated from the main house.
The only downside is the cooking. There's only a microwave and a kettle so no cooking (which was great for me anyways, I was out 90% of the time doing all my relocation bureaucracy! :))
If you are looking for a place to stay in the area, I highly recommend it!
Cheryl's cottage is truly beautiful and spotless. Staying there feels like a retreat, refreshing and relaxing. Cheryl and her family is very friendly, thoughtful and resourceful. Location is great! very close to castro street! Would love to come back!
The Backyard Cottage was perfect. Great location, super clean and plenty of nice clean towels!
The location - right off of HWY 1 and around the corner from downtown Mountain View.
The outdoor dining table was perfect to sit outside after a long day and enjoy a few moments of quiet.
I will certainly stay again if the opportunity arrises.
I had a wonderful stay with Cheryl and her family. The cottage is located in a very quiet location and within walking distance of about 4 parks and the restaurants/shops on Castro street. The studio was perfect for my 9 week summer position. Cheryl had good suggestions for swimming pools and hiking trails in the area. Would like to stay here if I'm down in the area again.
