The Space

Our cottage is a private detached backyard studio, with separate entrance, in a very convenient Mountain View location. This light filled space includes a large room with queen size bed, desk and huge closets. The corner kitchenette includes a sink, fridge, toaster, microwave and kettle, but there is no stove or oven. The cottage has its own spacious bathroom with skylight. French doors open out to a shared backyard with patio, lots of plants, vegetable garden and small lawn. The space can accommodate up to two people.

Our home is on a quiet street, but convenient to all you need for a perfect stay. We are a 10 minute walk to downtown Mountain View, where there is a small grocery store, fantastic restaurants and cafes, a pool, library and performing arts center. Also, it's a 20 minute walk to the Mountain View public transportation hub, where you can access Caltrain, VTA light rail and the bus. The Caltrain takes you directly to San Francisco or San Jose. We're a 30 minute drive to SJC and 45 minutes to SFO. If you’ll have a car, there is plenty of street parking. We are also a 10 minute drive to (website hidden) headquarters and other Silicon Valley companies. We're a 5-10 minute drive to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and other stores. This is the perfect place to stay if you are in town for a conference, for work, or to visit the region.

  • I had a lovely 11-day stay in the cheerful backyard cottage. Cheryl and Pascal are charming and welcoming, and the accommodations were perfect for me. The current photos don't show a toaster in the kitchen, a lamp on the desk, draperies over the patio windows, and blinds over the windows above the bed--all good additions.

  • The cottage was perfect. It was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Private access to the cottage was convenient. The hosts were unobtrusive but very friendly and accessible. We hope to stay here again next time we're in the area.

  • Cheryl and Pascale were so great! They couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The cottage was super clean and quiet. It has everything you could ask for- comfortable bed, totally stocked kitchen, clean bathroom. I would highly recommend this wonderful spot.

  • Very cozy experience. Cheryl's place is super neat and within walking distance from a lot of restaurants in the area. If you work for one of the big tech companies in Mountain View, the commute times are very convenient as well.

  • The cottage was clean and comfortable and a great value. Cheryl was a great host.

  • The cottage was my temporary arrangement for me as I was making the move out to the San Francisco bay area. At first only two weeks were available on the Airbnb calendar. I was looking for a place that I could stay for around a month. After contacting Cheryl and asking about the availability she explained that they were going to have some renovations done and they were going to stay in the cottage while they were being done. She said that she would have to think about it and get back to me closer to the time. A few weeks later she said that an extra week would be fine. I greatly appreciated this and it gave me enough time to find permanent apartment. Cheryl was a phenomenal host that was extremely kind and easygoing. The cottage is separate from the main house. At first it took me a little while to figure out the heating but after a few days it was great. I really liked that the door was keyless and just required a easy passcode for entry. The washer and dryer were extremely convenient and located in a separate entrance attached to the cottage. I did not use the patio much as it was a little chilly during my stay. However, it is extremely nice and would have definitely been great if it was warmer. The bathroom was extremely clean and had plenty of space as well as a nice skylight that gave plenty of light during the day. The main room was nice and spacious, the bed was comfortable, the closet space was great it even had good hangers. There was no TV and at first I was slightly concerned but after a few days I really began to like not having one. The kitchen area was great and had plenty of space. I did not cook or prepare much in the kitchen but if you wanted to make a salad or a cup of tea you could easily do so. Cheryl was extremely kind and let me use their iron and ironing board. It was all great! I attended several conferences and did not bring my car so I had limited transportation, so the location of the cottage was critical. In Mountain View the main downtown area is Castro Street and it's definitely within walking distance. This was great as I would usually leave in the morning and come back before heading to dinner. There is definitely a nice selection of restaurants in the area. There where a few times that I did go down to San Francisco and the CalTrain is also right at the end of Castro Street which is also in walking distance. For me it took around 15 minutes to walk Downtown. For anyone that is considering staying at Cheryl's cottage I would not hesitate. Yes, their are lots of other options but you will not find a place that is as comfortable and welcoming to stay in as the...

  • My husband and I love staying at the Backyard Cottage. We just completed our second stay and hope to stay again in the very near future. It is always quiet, clean and comfortable and Cheryl is very very prompt at replying to messages. You can't go wrong staying here!

  • A perfect location in Mountain View. This backyard Cottage is six blocks from Castro street and all the eateries and coffee houses. It is a lovely neighborhood to walk in. It is easy on to 101 and a few minutes to El Camino Real. The bed was great; the bathroom clean and well stocked with towels, etc. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave and toaster. The outdoor area is a lovely place to eat lunch in the winter sun and warmth. Cheryl is solicitous but not intrusive. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. FYI: There is no TV; but there is wifi.

  • We had a great stay at the cottage. It is conveniently located close to Castro St in Mountain View and people could use public transportation or car to access most of the peninsula if needed. We stayed during a cold spell and the cottage was cozy, warm, and comfortable. The efficiency kitchen is all you need especially if you are like us and like to eat out a lot. Thank you! I will definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone who wants to stay in the area.

About
Hi! I look forward to hosting you at our home. I'm from the Bay Area, and Pascal, my husband, is from Switzerland. We've got kids who are lots of fun. We love staying active and eating yummy food. When we can, we like to go hiking, biking and swimming. Both of us love to eat, especially Asian food and cheese, but not cheese on Asian food! Between the two of us, we've lived in quite a few countries, Pascal says of the places he has been, his favorite is Madagascar, and I don't have a favorite, but I especially loved Turkey and southern China. Airbnb didn't exist yet back when we went to those places. We're excited to meet people from anywhere! When hosting, we'll do everything we can to provide a clean and welcoming environment. We want to make sure that guests have what they need to be comfortable, but we probably won't be hanging out and getting into your business.
