The Space

This listing is for the front 2nd floor bedroom. This fully furnished private bedroom has a Queen size bed, nightstand, large dresser, mirror, chest of drawers, chair, side table with lamp, ceiling light, closet, cable TV with remote, fan, individually controlled electric baseboard heat, and a window air conditioning unit is installed during the summer. The bedroom has a large window (with room darkening curtain liners).

For guest privacy, all bedrooms in our 5 bedroom/ 4 bathroom home have keyed front door style locks.

Guest Access

Guests have access to our fully equipped eat-in kitchen for light cooking during daytime and evening hours, and are provided with space to store some refrigerated and dry foods (ask before bringing items that need to be frozen, freezer space is limited).

Guests are welcome to use the blow dryer and toiletry items stored in the bin in the bathroom, and there's extra TP in the wall cabinet. Ask before using any other items stored in the bathroom, as the items may belong to whoever is staying in the other room that shares the bathroom. Guests are permitted to use only the bathroom that is assigned for use by their room. This room shares a bathroom with the room next door. Please check the availability calendar for if you prefer a room with a private en suite bathroom.

Guests also have FREE access to a gym and indoor swimming pool at the nearby Kingsley Association (1 to 2 minute walk from the house; closed on Sundays).

Interaction with Guests

My housemate (Lisa) and I are frequently away from the home at various times throughout the day. Due to my schedule, Lisa is the one who usually responds to messages here, and she's who you'll most frequently be communicating with prior to and during your stay. In order to ensure someone will be at the house to greet you and provide a set of keys for the bedroom and the front door, arrival time must be coordinated in advance. Check in after 9 PM is permitted only with prior approval.

Guests will be given a number to use for calls or texts between 9 AM and 9 PM for questions and other non-urgent matters, and can call anytime for emergencies.

Upon arrival, be prepared to upon request present your unexpired US driver's license (or state-issued ID card, if you don't have a driver's license) or a valid passport; if the booking was made for 2 people, your traveling companion must also be prepared to provide the same.

The CMU and Chatham shuttles both have stops about 0.5 miles from the house.

Pittsburgh International Airport is 24.6 miles from the house. Yes, that does sound really far, but keep in mind that the Airport is outside the city, 20 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh and 21 miles from Oakland. This house is very convenient to all the places most visitors need to get to... it's the Airport that has the inconvenient location! If you don't want to take a bus, cabs are an option... or guests can contact us to discuss arranging airport pick-up and/or drop-off.

Overall Guest Satisfaction
Check In
  • I booked this room a few days before the weekend and Lisa was prompt in responding. The room was comfortable and was exactly as described. The apartment is a little tricky to find, but Lisa helped over the phone once we were in the area. It should be noted that the surrounding area is a little run down, and may seem unsafe at night for some. Overall, nice stay.

  • House and neighborhood a little run down, but basically clean and room was very nice and quiet. The second-story room was a little warm in the fine weather we had during our visit, would be too hot in summer without air conditioning (there was a unit in the closet that was not installed). The stairs are steep and the banister wobbly, so probably not good for folks with shaky legs! Lisa was a friendly hostess, we had a nice long visit with her when we checked in.

  • Check-in was super simple. The room was spacious and comfortable. We mostly drove or walked, so can't speak to the access to public transportation, but parking was free and easy.

  • Azhar was away. His BF Lisa was great. She guided me completely through the airbnb booking process (my first time) and even explained the intricacies of why (website hidden) maps shows their location accurately while other online map providers don't. When I arrived she spent considerable time with me answering all my questions about the area, even zeroing in on vegan/vegetarian restaurants that would fit my lifestyle. Bedroom and shared bathroom were clean and as described. Street location was busy but I slept great with a room fan providing backing noise. Parking out front was easy, and location for CMU activities was convenient. Great airbnb host!

  • We needed a bed while visiting Pittsburgh and did not want to pay Too Much! for it! Staying here allowed us to stay that extra night in Pittsburgh. Private parking and a quiet warm room, close to downtown in a safe neighborhood.

    January 2014
  • I really enjoyed my stay. It was a nice and clean room with everything you need. Thanks for letting me stay at your place again.

    July 2013
  • This place was clean and inviting. Finding the house was pretty confusing, but the hosts were very helpful in guiding me.

    Response from Azhar:

Thanks, Dana! For future guests' reference, please make sure you read the info in the Itinerary that Airbnb will send you after you have booked. It includes the web address for a map that shows exactly where the house is (unfortunately, many GPS units don't have the correct info). If you change the starting point to the location you're coming from, you can generate a new map that includes your estimated travel time. The map also includes the option of getting bus directions and times.

  • Exactly as advertised
    Clean, Welcoming
Guided me in from the airport via text so we felt someone expected us and cared

  • Great hosts. Lisa was waiting for us when we arrived and was very helpful. She promptly showed us around and oriented us in the kitchen. We were given space in the fridge and the cabinet. The room was very clean and had fresh towels and little cups (like a hotel room). The A/C unit worked and was adequate. The bed was comfortable and had nice sheets and pillowcases. The bathroom was just outside of the door and was also clean. The only reason for 4/5 stars was the house was just on the edge of a more run-down area and was somewhat of an eye sore. We had no problems with anyone and felt safe but some of the surrounding structures were dilapidated. Of course that has nothing to do with the owners of this house and the inside was clean and comfortable. The area seems to be developing, as is much of Pittsburgh, and I would expect newer buildings to be constructed/older building revitalized in the area in the near future. For the price it was a great deal and was much closer to the city than other houses listed on AirBnB.

  • Great location, easy to find and easy to park. Lee and Lisa were both friendly and helpful, and the house has everything you might need. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was great. Plus, there are bus stops a few steps away to take you into downtown. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Hi this is Azhar Leeton, but everyone just calls me Lee. I'm a very easy going and friendly host. I'm a real estate developer, and various green development projects are my passion. My goal is to build the most sustainable house in the country. I'm on the advisory board of EECO Center (Energy and Environmental Community Out-reach Center) spearheaded by Senator Jim Ferlo. I've also volunteered for many different organizations including UN, UNICEF, Red Cross, local food bank, etc. I have a 5 bedroom/4 bathroom house (including one room with its own private en suite bathroom), with plenty of off-street parking spaces. My home is conveniently located in the middle of all the amenities Pittsburgh's East End has to offer. You can rent individual or multiple rooms, depending on availability. I also have a very unique home, a Yaca-Dome (we call it "the Igloo"), that is usually available only as a whole house rental. With 3 bedrooms, the home can accommodate up to 6 guests. The Igloo offers a relaxing, private setting while still being within the city limits and close to all the great amenities and attractions Pittsburgh has to offer. Please note that this home's location is not a good choice for guests who plan to walk or rely on public transportation... I strongly suggest that guests here have access to a vehicle. I've already added numerous green features to my houses, such as an in-floor radiant heating system (in the 1st floor and basement of the 5 bedroom house), changed all the lighting to LED & CFL bulbs, low flow water fixtures, etc. I plan to use part of my Airbnb earnings to add more green features. Ultimately, a Net-Zero house is my goal. So please consider booking my places for all your needs, and tell your friends about them. Thank you very much for your time, Lee
