Whether you want to explore every corner of the Cape or truly retreat from it all with creature-comforts, the Summerhouse is a spacious home-base unlike anything else in the area.
Guests have access to the barn's first floor side-door summerhouse entry, bathroom, and laundry. Guests have full and exclusive use of the second floor but not the upper-most accessible-by-ladder-only roof-eaves. Please inquire if this distinction is unclear.
Accessing the barn's two upper loft/eave/storage spaces is prohibited. Guests should refrain from using or moving the library ladder.
Access to the barn's first floor studio/workshop is prohibited without separate rental fee arrangement. Sauna access is complimentary and just requires schedule coordination with the host who will unlock and preheat.
Guests are welcome and invited to use the yard, hammock and creek-side chairs and lounges, the creek itself with reasonable caution.
The parking spot in front of the barn doors is reserved for guests. Additional free, public street parking is available on our street and Main Street.
The host occupies the home next door and is available to help guests during their stay. She can be contacted by text message or phone, not to mention a knock on the door. Meeting and getting to know guests is always a pleasure, but unless the guests initiates more interaction, the host keeps a low and neighborly profile.
The property is in the Upper Cape Cod town of Sandwich. Established in 1637, it is the oldest town on Cape. Sigren Summerhouse sits within the historic village. The Sandwich Glass Museum, Shawme Lake, Dexter Grist Mill, HoxieHouse, and the charming village center are a mere walk away. Walk for 20 minutes to reach Boardwalk Beach’s scenic walking trails and kayak rentals, and choose between the child-friendly estuary beach or adjacent Town Neck Beach. Heritage Museum and Gardens also nearby.
Sandwich Village is walkable and bikable, but the Cape is easiest to explore by car or bicycle. There is an intra-Cape RTA bus, a town seasonal free weekend trolley loop, taxis on call, limited ride-sharing, and bike and kayak rental agencies.
The host has a Bernese Mountain Dog at her own home across the yard next door. The Summerhouse has alway been intentionally kept pet-free.
The host has made every attempt to make the summerhouse walk-in livable, providing linens, toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, cleaners and some staples. Should a stay require further or additional necessities, the guests should obtain them at nearby stores.
Be aware of and careful of the creek's edge. The creek is tidal and depth varies greatly within a day from babbling brook to over six feet deep.
The many windows and skylights create a light-filled atmosphere that can extend into the night, especially during summer nights and and full moons. Some sleepers may be light-sensitive (like your host) and find it beneficial to bring a sleeping mask.
The Verismo pod coffee-maker is only compatible with Starbucks Verismo pods, not K-cups. There is a Starbucks south of Sandwich in Mashpee, but guests who prefer pod coffee may prefer to bring Verismo pods from a Starbucks along their way.
The price of your reservation includes 9.7% room occupancy tax (5.7% Massachusetts and 4% Sandwich). This is the same tax that hotel, inn and bed and breakfast guests pay. Legal and accounting advisors both encourage Sigren Summerhouse to collect and remit this tax to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
