About this listing
The large guest bedroom offers plenty of room to relax in privacy from the main flat.
The apartment is located in a Regency building built in 1850, within the elegant Lansdown area of Cheltenham. Occupying the whole entire first floor, it is decorated to a very high standard, mixing beautiful architectonic features with modern furnishings. It has two large bedrooms; one of them has an ensuite bathroom and the other one can be set up as a twin or a double bedroom. Both beds are very large, Super King (1.80) size beds. An additional, large dressing room cum bathroom is available to guests who can enjoy bathing in the house's original ceramic roll top bath! There are two showers in total; with one of them being a rain shower. Our kitchen is large enough to sit ten people at the table and has a wood burner stove which makes dinner parties in the winter, a real cosy treat! The lounge is spacious and can accommodate seven people, comfortably.
There is free WI-FI, Sky TV, "on demand", Wii and cinema surround sound. We offer free car park space for two cars and the train station is less than 5 minutes away. If we happen to be in town, we will always make an effort to collect our guests from the station if arriving by train.
Within the rental, we provide a full compliment of high quality cotton bedlinen, towels and kitchen linen, including tablecloths and tea towels. In the winter months, we provide one basket of logs for the wood burner in the kitchen/dining area. Other useful gadgets such as an ipod/ipad docking station are also available as it is a powerful hairdryer! We also provide our overseas visitors with a car navigation system if required. During the hot summer months we provide our guests with a fan.
The apartment is five minutes' walk from the Montpellier area which has some of the best shops, bars and restaurants in Cheltenham. It is conveniently located a few minutes away from the Lansdown bar which is the most coveted late night bar during the Gold Cup horse race festival.
We specialise in short rentals, particularly during the Gold Cup, The Open, St. Valentine's weekend, Christmas breaks and the many Summer festivals. We have also rented the apartment for family celebrations such as birthdays or "get togethers". The house is usually decorated during Christmas and Easter. We are very adaptable and will do our outmost to meet our guests' needs.
Please, note the minimum lengths of stay below:
- minimum length of stay is 2 nights
- during the Gold Cup week the minimum booking is for 4 nights.
- during Easter the minimum booking is 3 nights.
- during Christmas, July and August, the minimum booking is 6 nights.
We welcome children and pets. Please, note that smoking is not allowed in the flat but it is permitted in the garden. We are happy to book festival tickets, reflexology or simply make restaurant reservations! Just let us know how we can help.
****PLEASE NOTE**** All our guests receive a little surprise as a welcome pack as well as having access to coffee, teas and other drinks. We are proud to be one of the few properties that does not charge additional fees for pets, for the cleaning of the apartment upon check out or for hosting extra guests.
There are no restricted areas within our home. We allocate storage space for our guests.
The Lansdown area is one of the best kept architectonic neighbourhoods in Cheltenham. In the 1850s, local, wealthy professionals lived in this area in full prosperity and the enormous mansions reflect well the economic power these families held. Towards the beginning of the 20th century, horse race owners and prestigious private schools settled in the area. Today, residents in the neighborhood take enormous pride in showcasing these impressive buildings in the best possible way. For a weekend, or maybe a longer stay, you too can now experience what is like to live in one!
There is a convenient bike path outside the house. Similarly the bus number 94 that takes you into town, stops a few metres away. The railway station with a taxi rank is only a few minutes walk.
Other Things to Note
Please note that due to security reasons, we are unable to accept bookings from prospective guests who have no verifications.
We trust our guests to conduct a fully responsible checking in and out process. Therefore, we expect them to look after our house keys just as they look after theirs, or even better! Please note that lost keys are charged at £100.00 per set, and will be taken from your deposit.
Smoking is not permitted in the apartment but it is allowed in the gardens. We provide a very comprehensive home pack with instructions on how all gadgets work.
We aim to meet our guests' needs as much as possible. We would be grateful if guests kept good comms with us during the planning stage of their stay as this really helps with ensuring we get it right! Thanks!
We booked Maria's gorgeous apartment in Cheltenham for a weekend with friends. It was perfect! Both bedrooms are spacious & comfy, one with ensuite. We felt completely at ease there & Maria kindly left us a bottle of bubbly & nougat as a welcome gift!
There's off street parking outside the house, which is great, as we know parking in Cheltenham can be a prob.
It's an easy 15 mins walk to the Montpellier district, then on into town.
We would definitely recommend.
Thank you Maria!
This was a beautiful home that we felt completely welcome in. Very comfortable rooms and tons of space in which to spread out. Maria was not in town while we were there but everything went smoothly and she was easily accessible via e-mail. She let us borrow her GPS which was extremely helpful as we drove around southwestern England and southern Wales. This was a perfect base of operations to explore the Cotswolds, Stonehenge, Bath, & Cardiff. It's in a nice neighborhood that is a 10-15 minute walk from a great variety of restaurants and pubs. We also loved the welcome gifts that she left out for us - made us feel truly welcome! Would definitely stay here if we visit Cheltenham again!
Myself and three friends have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Ablington. The apartment is clean, tidy and very homely. Although we didn't meet Maria on the day of arrival, everything was explained thoroughly beforehand and there was nothing that Maria hadn't thought of, including a lovely welcome pack which was a very thoughtful touch.
The location is perfect, near to bars, restaurants and the town centre. There is also a drive with plenty of room for parking which was really helpful.
The only issue we did have was the lock on the front door so each time we left the apartment it took us a while to get back in. It was fine locking the door once in the apartment however.
All in all a fantastic weekend and I would certainly recommend Maria's home to friends.
Many thanks for your feedback. We are, indeed, in the process of replacing the lock which is quite complex due to the age of the house and the door! The temporary system means that you only have one straight forward movement in the lock until the new one is in place, which interestingly enough, should have made things slightly easier. Sorry if you found that was not the case.
My partner, 2.5 year old and I stayed at Maria's flat in Cheltenham for a weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The flat was beautiful and very well appointed, exactly as described, and more than big enough for the three of us and my visiting family. Great location, only 10 minutes walk away from Montpellier and 15 minutes from the town centre; walking being the best option since Cheltenham is very busy for traffic, plus there's the bonus of parking at the flat. Maria was very accommodating and was quick to respond to any queries I had. The only thing I would say, and it's not intended as a criticism only to help other airbnbers, is that while the flat is child-friendly, younger, just-mobile children would need to be watched owing to the drinks trolley and other items in the living room. Otherwise having everything on one floor is a bonus with young children!
This is a beautiful well furnished home that we felt quite welcome in. The host lives there when it's not rented so you are staying among another persons private items--just so you know. We had not had that experience despite using rental services several times over the years and while it was not a problem it was different than what we were expecting. The flat had everything that we needed and was very spacious and elegant. Two minor quibbles would be the the macerating toilets have a noticeable odor at times, and that the lock on the front door was extremely finicky, to the point that invariably all three of us had tried to lock or unlock it for several minutes before one of us managed to do it. This was a bit of a problem on one occasion when one of us had an "urgent personal need", so to speak. Overall a good experience and I would stay there again if I'm in Cheltenham.
Many thanks for your feedback.
The spirit of Airbnb is that, as hosts, you actually share your home with others so we do not think that it is that unusual for guests to stay among our private items, such as books, or clothes in our wardrobe, for example. We will certainly look into the issue in the bathrooms, we think this is due to some water supply cuts we have had last week which meant the drains were not working at full speed. We certainly have never had any issues with previous guests as our feedback denotes. We noticed on our arrival that one of the keys needed replacing and we will be looking into the lock, to see if we need to repair it or replace it.
Look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Thoroughly recommend this delightful flat. Very spacious, well-equipped and just a short, pleasant stroll from the Regency heart of Cheltenham. Very thoughtful welcome package from the host including essentials like milk in the fridge, breakfast goodies and a bottle of fizz!
A real find which made our first visit to Cheltenham particularly memorable.
The flat was perfect for a weekend in Cheltenham - great location, beautiful interiors and nice and light. Information re check in was sent ahead of time and though slightly different from previous experiences was easy and efficient.

About the Host, Maria
A keen traveller with an over developed taste for interior decoration, I try to get away as often as possible. Speak a couple of languages and am always trying to learn a new one. I have rented my properties across the world for a few years now and have a methodical and practical approach to it; it works!
I have listed three of my most loved properties: one is at the higher end of architectural accomplishment in Cheltenham, "Die Kabine" is at the opposite end, as a wooden cabin in a German rural area, surrounded by forests. From July 2014, we will be taking bookings for our Cotswold Lake Lodge "The Rocklight", which offers a stylish retreat by the water.
The most important link between them all is that they offer something truly special that you will not find in hotels; amazing comfort and true character! I hope you will love them too!
We love hosting and giving guests memorable, unique experiences they can not have by staying in hotels. Personal touches, great art and interesting stories fill our homes and make them very special places. We travel a lot due to work and family committments, mainly in Europe. It is our belief that our homes are sadder places when they are unoccupied and we like knowing that someone is enjoying and looking after them in our absence. That's, in a nutshell, what drives us to host; we look forward to welcoming you!
