The Space

Comfortable and stylish basement apartment, a lovely walk away from Reed College, Eastmoreland Golf Course, Rhododendron Garden and Crystal Springs nature trail.

Apartment has a separate entrance, high ceilings, full kitchen, big screen TV, wifi, bathroom with shower, and laundry room. Owners live upstairs. We are fairly quiet, but the house is old, so you will hear creaking floorboards when we walk around. When using the stove, we recommend turning on the vent hood, as our smoke alarm is quite sensitive (apologize for that :-))

The apartment has one bedroom with a queen size bed. Perfect for a single person or a couple.

Amenities like grocery stores, restaurants, bars, theaters, specialty shops, dry cleaning, hardware, etc., are within 1-2 miles in the Woodstock, Sellwood, and Westmoreland neighborhoods. There are bus stops throughout the neighborhood, one of them is less than a minute's walk away. Downtown Portland is less than 15 minutes drive.

We have a mini Aussie mix that is shy and insecure. She tends to bark when someone approaches the house, but subsides once she feels the coast is clear.

We are located in a beautiful, safe, upscale neighborhood. A mile long tree-lined parkway runs along the center of our street, perfect for jogging or leisurely walks.

You will have access to the back yard with lounge chairs and fire pit. Please remember to keep the gate closed.

  • The apartment was beautiful and clean. All appliances were new, as was the remodeled kitchen and bath. Bea and Roger were friendly and available, but not intrusive. Being in the basement meant a cool temperature during an unusual Portland heat wave. The neighborhood was beautiful to walk in, full of historic houses.

  • My sons (almost 10 years old) and I stayed with Roger and Bea for several days last week. The apartment was wonderful! It was nicely decorated and very clean. We had everything that we needed, or wanted, during our stay. Although the photos were very nice, they really don't do the apartment justice! There is such a homey feel that just can't be captured in photos. The location is perfect. Portland is easily accessible. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Bea and Roger are kind and concerned hosts. When they learned that we would be arriving in the area earlier than the usual check-in time they quickly volunteered to let us check-in early. That made our first day in Portland so much nicer! When we arrived…my son said, "WOW…this is way nicer than a hotel!" I could not agree more. My sons and I felt as though we were at "home" during our stay. In fact, my son loved it so much he wrote Bea and Roger a "thank you" note when we left and made sure that we all signed it. We enthusiastically recommend Bea and Roger's place to you and plan to stay with them again!

  • You won't find a better place than this one: 1) Bea & Roger are super hosts, very helpful, can't say enough good things about them. 2) The apartment is everything the photos show--and more. There's plenty of room--you won't be cramped here; the appliances are new, the furniture is comfortable, as is the bed. Bea & Roger take pride in keeping it neat and well-equipped. 3) The neighborhood is BEAUTIFUL: tree-lined residential street only 4 blocks from Reed College. The #19 bus to downtown Portland is around the corner--no need to drive into the city.

We were sorry to leave after 4 days and wouldn't hesitate to return. You'll love this place!!

  • Extremely hospitable hosts and such a privilege to stay in their home. Roger & Bea were so kind to be home when we arrive and welcome us. Lovely couple and interesting.
First time for us to use Airbnb and will not be the last. Everything went smooth and the apartment was as described in the listing and photos.
The neighborhood was perfect if you were there to visit at Reed College or just a stay in Portland. Easy to locate and beautiful street with remarkable homes.
We stayed two nights and would have loved to stay a week. We were there for a visit with our daughter that lives close.
Please try to fit this housing option if you haven't tried it. Thank you, Elizabeth & Walt.

  • This is my first visit to this basement apt. It just as pictured with a well-equipped kitchen,LR,Bedroom(queen),bathroom with shower stall and washer/dryer. There is no phone. There is one channel on the TV so it was hard to find the news but they have free Netflix. The apt has it's own lockbox (very nice) and entrance. I placed pillows over the windows for privacy which worked fine. I was moving my Reed student into an apt from the dorm and this is very close; a straight shot walking to Reed, maybe 4 or 5 blocks. If you want to be close to Reed, this is ideal. It's in a lovely treelined neighborhood. Bea was there the first day to check on me and made sure I had ample coffee.

    Thank you Roger and Bea!

  • Absolutely loved our stay at Roger and Bea's! It is spacious, clean, cozy and does not feel like you are in a basement! We had everything we needed during our time and the location is perfect for strolling through Reed College, Milwaukee Ave and Sellwood. The restaurant recommendations in our welcome package were great. They are very gracious hosts despite us never needing to get in touch with them during our stay- all the information on the space was provided!

About
I am a law enforcement officer and Bea is a sales rep. We moved from Utah to the Northwest about 6 years ago. Since moving to Portland, I have spent most of my time restoring and landscaping our Eastmoreland home. In our spare time we enjoy reading, hiking, kayaking, Jeep excursions, and pretty much any nature-bound activity that keeps us humble. We've tried a little rock climbing and some sailing. Our profile lists Italian as one of the spoken languages in the home, and although I'd like to claim it, it's my wife Bea that speaks it. I took some Chinese (Mandarin) in college, but would be hard pressed to call myself conversational. My favorite show is Curb Your Enthusiasm; somehow, I feel connected with Larry David. I won't turn down a chance to watch Star Trek either.
