About this listing
Apoyo Lodge is ideal for families, large groups and retreats of any kind.
The lodge is situated off the beaten path so guests must be open to adventure and comfortable living in seclusion and in peace with the natural world.
The lodge offers the perfect environment; a unique, secluded and natural setting where guests are able to discover and harness this mindful lifestyle in peace and solitude.
Some guests describe the lodge as the perfect place to unplug from the outside world. A place where they can liberate themselves from the daily distractions of city life and connect to their highest selves in the natural world.
The lodge sits on over an acre of property deep within the tropical nature reserve of Laguna de Apoyo. Just footsteps away from the lodge are the pristine healing waters of Apoyo Lagoon.
Apoyo Lodge boasts 6 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms and can comfortably sleep 12 – 18 people.
There are two expansive suites equipped with queen beds and french doors that lead to private balconies where guests can relax and admire the views of the laguna and bird watch.
Amenities at the lodge include a spacious fully equipped open-air kitchen, dining and living area with direct views of lush greenery and the lake. Colorful swinging hammock chairs hang suspended from arches in the living area.
All rooms are equipped with ceiling and floor fans and have their own private modern American standardized washrooms. All linens and beach towels are provided. There is also a full-sized washing machine on site.
To make your stay more enjoyable Apoyo Lodge also offers the following at no extra charge:
daily maid service
all natural products provided; shampoo, conditioner + hand soap made locally on Little Corn Island
In addition, there is a private skate park, two story yoga palapa, cement ping pong table, slack line and private outdoor rancho equipped with refrigerator, charcoal BBQ and wood-fired oven.
Also available for use is a small sailboat, paddle boat and twelve inner tubes.
Apoyo Lodge is a large 3500sq ft vacation and retreat ental nestled in a protected ecological dry forest nature reserve on the shores of Lake Apoyo.
Unlike other homes in the laguna, Apoyo Lodge is hidden and has no neighbours aside from the local howler monkeys heard above in the trees. Although secluded, colonial Granada and Masaya are only a half hour drive away.
The lodge is constructed from local Nicaraguan materials; the ceilings and beams through out the lodge are composed of guadua bamboo, all windows and doors are royal cedar and the floors are laid with traditional wood-fired clay tiles. Due to the breezy air flowing off the laguna, no air-conditioning is needed. Hot water is an added luxury.
LAKE & RANCHO
Outside the lodge the lake is only a stones throw away and there are many hammocks scattered all around the property.
For those looking to 'catch some rays' or simply laze there are inner-tubes for floating. If you'd like to go a little further there is a paddle-boat and a small sailboat.
There is a large spacious outdoor bar complete with hammocks, cement ping-pong table, refrigerator, charcoal BBQ and wood-fired pizza oven.
Hiking trails are located in all directions of the property.
HEALING SPACE OFFERINGS
Yoga, meditation, tibetan sound bowl healing, massage and reiki are all offered in Apoyo Lodge's two story lakefront yoga palapa.
The healing space is made from almond and guanacaste wood. It is situated on a terrace facing the laguna and is surrounded by coconut palms, banana trees and tropical flowers.

They are able to arrange grocery services, transportation, day-excursions or any other plausible request.
There is always 24/hr security and daily maid service available at no added cost.
Guests have complete access to the lodge, property and private beach, two story yoga palapa, outdoor rancho, hammocks, inner tubes, paddleboat and small sunfish for the lake.
Guests have complete access to the fully equipped open air kitchen in the lodge or they are welcome to order vegan meals in advance prior to arrival.
Interaction with Guests
Shamus and Sasha will be there to greet guests upon their arrival as well as their departure and will be around to answer any questions but probably won't see them unless needed.
The lodge is located in a protected ecological dry forest and we boast absolutely no neighbours and cherish the peace and solitude in the natural world.
We also enjoy being situated only footsteps away from our own private beach.
The sunrises are amazing and always unique. The full moon is incredible. It rises over the mountain.
If renting a vehicle be sure to rent a 4x4 and ask for detailed directions and updated conditions on the road before trying to get here.
Otherwise we can arrange transportation for you from anywhere in Nicaragua. Please inquire.
Public transportation is not an option as we are located in an extremely secluded area of the laguna.
Other Things to Note
There are 5 queen beds and 8 singles.
4 out of the 8 singles can be pushed together to form 2 king beds.
The lodge is located in a protected nature reserve so there will be insects and wildlife which must be treated with respect as well as the natural environment.
We encourage you to use biodegradable natural products while you stay with us at Apoyo if possible.
The lodge already has four cats (you'll be lucky if you see) and three dogs who are extremely friendly and loveable but they get the hint if you'd rather be left alone too.
This is a beautiful property in an amazing location. The lagoon is truly beautiful and the property is very well kept with many fruit trees. We were there for only a few days and wish we had planned to stay longer. Unfortunately Sasha was out of town and we did not have a chance to meet her and do yoga with her. Shamus was a gracious host and very helpful in planning our stay. It is a bit remote, which also makes it special, so I would suggest planning on bringing ample supplies and staying a while. It is close to Granada however and there are many things to do in the area. This is a special place and Sasha and Shamus have done a great job in designing and developing the property. This is a great place for a retreat.
There should be 8 wonders of the world! Amazing is an understatement. I could write for days on just how life changing this experience in Nicaragua was, the lagoon and the breath taking accommodations at the Apoyo Lodge. Sasha and her staff we great! If you go to Nicaragua do yourself a favor and STAY HERE!! A+ without a doubt!
Not only the outstanding location, but also the very nice designed house and the whole area and especially the great hospitality of Shamus and his girlfriend made our stay at Apollo Lodge extremly special. We all enjoyed it very much! Very unique place
Can only recommend it. The only downside: You need to have a good 4WD car to go there and back. However, this is also an advantage, because this place is not accessable for everyone. It is nearly in the middle of the perfect nature of the lagune of Apollo.
About the Host, Sasha & Shamus
Shamus Hewitt was looking for an investment and stumbled upon Laguna De Apoyo and instantly fell in love with the clean clear waters of the lake. The lake was secluded and Shamus wanted to surround himself with nature. He chose to create a lodge that encompassed a Canadian cottage feel.
Shamus has 10 years of experience in Nicaragua. He lives on the property in his own home apart from the lodge with his partner Sasha who takes care of all inquiries, bookings and retreats.
