we are on the campus of University of Chicago. 1/2 mile from Museum of Science and Industry, 1 mile from President Obama's Chicago home - 6 miles south of downtown and 1/2 mile from Lake Michigan. Three forms of public transportation are close, including bus which stops outside our door. Train downtown is a 12 minute ride. We are on the top (3rd floor)of our building.
Had a relaxed time on the south side of Chicago. Checked out the University of Chicago, Pullman historic site, and even Indiana Dunes. Parking was easy (thank you for the overnight pass!), bed and room were very comfy, bathroom was private and clean, and there's tons more to do in the area that we didn't have time to pursue. Easy car access to center city and points north too. We didn't use public transportation this time so I can't comment on that, but it looks very doable. Hosts were low key and helpful. We didn't have much interaction as we were mostly out and about, but communication was seamless. Thanks so much for opening your home, I would definitely recommend.
This is a great place to stay and Charlie provides great accommodation at a very economical price. Charlie and Kim even made their kitchen home to me! The location is great for potential students to visit the University of Chicago. I only stayed for two days and spent most of my time outside, but felt like it was a second home and could have stayed even longer. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Charlie and Kim's love of travel and varied life and work experience make the home and atmosphere friendly to all. Their dog, Riley, is very sweet, well mannered, unlike other dogs does not require a lot of physical and emotional space. Riley you are amazing! Thanks so much Charlie and Kim for the great accommodation!
To me one of the most important things about a place is its cleanesiness. This place was clean and comfortable. The hostesses are warm and very gracious. They got everything you need.
I found Charles and Kim's place because of the address. It is in the same block that my daughter lives. The space was great!!! perfect for me to come and go and most important quiet, clean and comfortable. Riley, the dog was a joy and the hospitality was great. I am hoping to stay again.
Charlie was very welcoming, kind, and helpful during our stay in Chicago. He gave useful instructions on reaching his home from the airport, the room was very well-cleaned, and he even had a well-stocked breakfast for us each day.
His location is also very convenient for access to public transit and ideal for those visiting the University of Chicago. I would highly recommend staying with Charlie.
Charles and Kim are warm and friendly hosts. The neighborhood was a perfect location for me. The description was very accurate.
I had the most wonderful stay with Charlie, Kim, and Riley (a very friendly dog). They were very helpful before and during my stay, and allowed me to leave my luggage at their place until I could move to my other place. If you work at the university, this place is perfect. 5 minutes walk to campus, and your way is guarded by security people on the corners of each street. I did not feel unsave at all, but still it was nice to know them there. The room is large and comfortable, a perfect place to relax or work (big table and nice chair!). If you like a nice soft bed, you are sure to have a relaxing and comfortable night sleep. The place is very quiet, and the private bathroom is definitly also a plus. Charlie and Kim provide great coffee and other breakfast things, which I enjoyed a lot. If you search for a nice coffee and/or sandwich and/or pancake place close by, try the 'robust café' about one block south. Plenty of restaurants and cafés are to be found on campus as well.
I dont know how they do it, but Charlie and Kim seem to experts in the art of hosting. I always felt very welcome, but never forced to socialize. Enjoy your stay :)!!
my wife is home during the day - we have a dog but it will not have access to your room and is not left alone (though it is friendly and well-behaved). We can offer insights and suggestions based on living here for decades and living in several neighborhoods. We have wireless internet access.
