This is a cosy room with a very comfortable bed. Perfect place to kick back and relax after a busy day.
This is a small private room with a super comfortable bed, wardrobe, desk and chest of drawers, with wifi internet access. Perfect for the solo traveller, you could have a couple in this room if your were not spending a lot of time in there and just needed a comfy place to sleep...
We are in a zone 1 suburb of Melbourne which means we are only 20 minutes away by train from the Melbourne CBD. It is a 10 minute walk to the Newport train station.
Around the location of the train station you will find a myriad of cafes and shops and other useful business to ensure you have everything you need at your convenience. There is even a supermarket open until midnight walking distance from our home.
A short five minute walk from our house is Newport Lakes Reserve; an old quarry turned into a park with a large lake and an abundance of wildlife, a beautiful place to walk or run or even watch the sunset. You can loose yourself in the serenity of the lake and wildlife and forget you are even in suburbia..
We are close to Williamstown beach which has a lovely alfresco cafe culture and a good swimming beach.
We offer you a relaxed family environment and a warm welcome with respect for your privacy and needs.. There is a beautiful modern kitchen to prepare your food and a spare fridge for you to store your provisions in.
Tea coffee and filtered water is available for your use during your stay.
Whilst staying with us you will have access to:
Washing machine - NB: clothes dryer NOT available. There is a big outdoor washing line and small indoor drying racks in your room.
A separate refrigerator for your food and space in the pantry to store other food.
Kitchen facilities for cooking simple meals. Please note that between 6 − 7 pm the kitchen will be pretty busy cooking the family meal, so where possible try to prepare food outside of this time.
A separate living area to access if you want to escape from the family and read or watch tv etc
Interaction with Guests
We understand every guest is different. Some people like to have interaction and others a quiet place to base themselves to meet busy schedules. So we understand and will be led by you and always respect your privacy. But if you want a chat or need advice or assistance with anything we are available.
So folks, you should know, Newport is not a bustling hub of nightlife, shopping and entertainment. It is a middle class, safe area with lots of young families. It's a real experience of normal life in Melbourne.
Newport is considered inner city. It has a regular train service to the city centre that takes 20 minutes to get you to Flinders St. Station. Newport Railway station is only a kilometre from our home or a 10 minute walk.
There are a few really good cafes' restaurants and pubs near us. They may not be readily visible to a traveller so be sure to ask for recommendations from us or a local.
Mason street where the train station is located, has a butcher, fruit and vegetable shop, pharmacy, bakery, cafe, IGA Supermarket, hairdressers, atm, and cafe's. So food is readily accessible close to home.
There are great parks, walking trails and bike paths to explore. I highly recommend Newport Lakes (which is 5 minutes from our home), where you can feel like you are in the country and not suburbia.
There is a great fitness centre near our house with a professional size pool and spa and sauna, plus a range of classes and gym equipment if you want to keep fit :-)
We are smack bang in the middle between Williamstown and Yarraville. But with us you don't get the more expensive room rates you may find in those areas.
But you are pretty close to these locations so definitely check them out…
Williamstown beach and esplanade are lovely accessible locations to enjoy a swim or walk by the ocean. There is an amazing beach kiosk there called D'asporto, where they sell great coffee and the food is fantastic. Not your normal beach kiosk fare. Plus, many other dining choices.
I also highly recommend taking a ferry from Williamstown to Southbank on a sunny day.
Yarraville has a great Art Deco movie theatre encompassed in a great little pop up park, and they have all the latest movies and arthouse collections.
If you are looking for food then Yarraville will not disappoint. It has every different type of cafe restaurant you could want and the area has a quaint village feel to it.
You could live well enough here without owning a car. The frequent buses meander through the streets connecting Newport train station with Yarraville via Altona North & Kingsville/Spotswood. That enables you to get to schools, strip shops, doctors, dentists & Altona Gate Shopping Centre for all your basic needs.
For entertainment, etc., you can easily get to Yarraville for the Sun Cinema, cafes, and shops, etc; or visit Williamstown for a wide variety of eateries, cafes, pubs, market, etc. If you want to get to the beach, the train from Newport station to the beach is only a 5 minutes trip to Williamstown Beach station, or if you prefer pools then the Leisure Centre is on the bus route along Mason St. For cyclists, the bike path along the foreshore is a really nice ride - you have Williamstown & beyond to the east and Altona beach to the west.
As Newport & Williamstown are on a sort of mini-peninsula, we don't get the through-traffic congestion that a lot of other suburbs get. Commuting via rail to the city beats driving any day. I get to read instead of getting frustrated in commuter traffic. If you have to get to the city by car then on a weekend the city is only 15 minutes away.
All in all, to live so close to Melbourne CBD, Newport is a nice place to live!
PLEASE NO SMOKING ON THE PROPERTY.
You are welcome to use the kitchen, but please clean up properly after yourself. Any breakages or incinerated saucepans will need to be replaced!
In the interest of hygiene we ask that you use the dishwasher to ensure proper cleaning of utensils and cups, plates etc. Large items like saucepans etc will need to be hand washed.
The coffee machine is a barista quaility one and NOT for general use, (even by me ) But if you are around in the am when Jim has fired it up he will happily make you one
If you are a long term guest (more than a week) you are responsible for maintaining the washing of the towels and bed linen you have been provided for in your room.
On your departure your do not need to do anything in regard to washing linen etc..
The family meal gets cooked btween 6 −7 pm. It would be appreciated if you could organise your food preparation outside these times
Hey future guests and friends,
Thanks for taking the time to read our profile.
We are a regular Aussie family with a home that many tell us has a relaxed and welcoming vibe. Which is GREAT because that's how we want you to feel when you stay with us.
You need to know that our home is not a sterile hotel, or a grungy hostel or even a display home. There is the normal detritus of modern family life with children. But that aside you can be assured your environment will be clean, your linens fresh and your room cleaned and dusted before you arrive. There can be a lot of laughter, love (the occasional tantrum) in our home, and you are welcome to share in that, or to have privacy and limited interaction if that is your preference. We will be led by you. ☺
Above all we just want you to be comfortable!
We love keeping fit. Enjoying time with friends. A good red wine or a craft beer AND of course travelling!!
We have been having airbnb guests for 5 years now. It has been truly rewarding and we have met remarkable people from every continent, many we are still friends or in contact with.
We look forward to meeting you too ☺.
