We are in a zone 1 suburb of Melbourne which means we are only 20 minutes away by train from the Melbourne CBD. It is a 10 minute walk to the Newport train station. Around the location of the train station you will find a myriad of cafes and shops and other useful business to ensure you have everything you need at your convenience.
A short five minute walk from our house is Newport Lakes Reserve; an old quarry turned into a park with a large lake and an abundance of wildlife, a beautiful place to walk or run or even watch the sunset. You can loose yourself in the serenity of the lake and wildlife and forget you are even in suburbia..
We are close to Williamstown beach which has a lovely alfresco cafe culture and a good swimming beach.
We offer you a relaxed family environment and a warm welcome with respect for your privacy and needs.. There is a beautiful modern kitchen to prepare your food and a spare fridge for you to store your provisions in. Tea coffee and filtered water is available for your use during your stay.

What a wonderful family! Karen take care of her hosts with a little present at their arrival.
It was a great place to stay for my first week in australia. Comfortable room to let the jetlag away :)
Karen and Jim have a beautiful home in a lovely area. It is accessible by 20 minute train from the city and then a 15 minute walk. Jim checked me in and showed me around. The room suited my needs and the bed is very comfortable. They rent out other rooms via airbnb but that didnt cause me any problems. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend.
Karen is amazing! We had a lovely stay in her house and felt like we'd dropped in on friends. Everything is very comfortable and the family are all welcoming and interesting to talk to.
Karen, Jim, and their children were lovely hosts. They always took the time to chat and offer suggestions for eating or sightseeing. Two other bedrooms are listed for Airbnb guests, and they were occupied during my stay. It promoted a guesthouse or hostel type environment, and I found it helpful and fun to connect with fellow travellers. The home is open and airy, with a large kitchen and eating area. The neighborhood is quiet, and it's a nice 10-15 minute walk to the train station. Thank you for a wonderful time!
I don't speak very well English: WONDERFUL FAMILY, WONDERFUL KIDS, WONDERFUL DOG. I HOPE ALL TRAVELLERS CAN MEET KAREN AND JIM: I HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR THEM.
Con affetto, Thank you. Mary
I had a lovely time staying with Karen and Jim. The house is only a 10-15 min walk to the station which takes you right into the city which couldn't be easier. It's also close to the coast which is a lovely walk and you can see the city from there. The house was great and the kids will adore you if you have a smartphone or tablet for them to play on. The family rises early as the kids have school so sleeping in can be hard but it's not a big issue. Kitchen has everything you need in it and Karen and Jim will help you out if you have any questions.
I had a wonderful time staying with Karen, Jim and the family. They made me feel very welcome, were very considerate and the whole family was easy to get along with. The kids had great personality and there cat and dog were very friendly and always enjoyed a bit of attention.
Newport is a great area to live within a 20 minute train ride to the central city which makes it easy if you are looking to see some sites or for work commitments. It is quiet and a great place to take walks especially around the Newport Lakes Reserve, a couple of minutes from their place on foot.
Overall a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation in Melbourne.
I'm in Australia on a working holiday visa, and Karen's home was a perfect base while I was focusing on finding a job. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, the house is large so there's plenty of privacy and space to concentrate, there's a desk in every room for times when you need to get down to work - and the wifi is absolutely faultless! I found it to be a great advantage staying with a busy family going about their daily routine - especially as I was travelling by myself with essentially no routine of my own just yet! The whole family provided an incredibly warm welcome. And the nearby lake is gorgeous!
Karen and Jim are great hosts! Really relaxed, and they have a lovely house, and they offer a good little room with a very comfy bed at a hostel price. The house is in a very quiet neighbourhood and not too far from the CBD.
My stay at Karens place was great. Jim picked me up from the station and showed me around the area so I had some idea of where everything was. It's a couple of stops on the train to Williamstown and the beach or about fifteen minutes into the centre of Melbourne. The place was very clean and tidy and their dog is cute and no trouble at all. I would recommend anyone to stay there. Karen and Jim were friendly and gave me lots of useful tips.
