About this listing
We've been interviewed by airbnb and Wired Magazine for being highly rated hosts.
This is a large private room with a single bed (38" x 74.5"/96 x 189 cm) that holds ONE person ONLY in our home. We live here. It has a huge sunny window and is in the upstairs flat. The livingroom is just on the other side of the sliding doors, so you can open them up and feel like you have a suite. The bathroom is shared. The house is filled with colorful international artwork and photos, and if you ask, there are many stories behind them all. Your room has a spacious closet that is more than ample to store your things. There is a garden to sit in which is surrounded by colorful trees and visited by hummingbirds. You're welcome to use the large modern kitchen if you want to cook. We have cable tv, wireless, friendly neighbors in the downstairs flat and a sweet, friendly dog (English Setter). This has been home to 37 foreign exchange students, dozens of international travelers and many techies from famous companies.
Great area with wonderful weather, interesting shops, farmer's market, places of worship, mostly family owned vs. chain shops, local events and places to hang out. Lots of scenic walks if you want to explore the famous painted Victorians, and beautiful Dolores Park, with a gorgeous view of the city, is 4 blocks away. There are many fantastic cafes, great coffee spots and restaurants of numerous ethnicities, including at least 2 restaurants on the SF Top 100 List, within a short walk.
We're centrally located and just a few steps to public transportation. The 24th & Mission BART station is a 7-8 minute walk, and downtown is 20 minutes away by the train that stops across the street. SOMA is also 15 minutes by train. The Castro is a 10 minute walk. UCSF campuses are about 20 minutes away. The "tech" buses that go to several well-known Silicon Valley companies stops nearby. The very coolest part of the Mission District is a 10-15 minute walk. This is a safe neighborhood so you can go for walks at night. Whole Foods, a high end organic grocery with take-out food, is less than a 5 minute walk. All stores in this area are open on Sunday and all have relatively late hours.
The entire neighborhood is culturally diverse, gay friendly, full of families, happy dogs, creative type professionals and a welcoming atmosphere.
Your host is a world traveler and loves to share stories. You will feel immediately welcome.
There are two other rooms in this house that are also listed here, so please be aware that there may be 1-3 other guests while you are here. Sorry, no pets can stay or visit. We have an iron and a blow dryer and plenty of towels, so no need to bring yours!
Please see our other listings: "1907 Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" (queen bed perfect for two people), and "Cool Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" (single bed for one person.)
Other Things to Note
California is experiencing a SERIOUS WATER SHORTAGE, and we now have a mandatory 25% reduction in use. Our rates have also increased and we will be charged 5x our usual rate for using more than our allotment. (This could be over $500.) We ask that you help us conserve by being mindful of your water use. We ask you to please limit your showers to about 5 minutes, and when washing dishes and brushing teeth, please turn off the water. Please note: we do not set a timer or act like police if you go over 5 minutes. This is simply a guideline. The city and the state make it very difficult for us and we just need you to be aware of the consequences to us. Since we have multiple people staying here, the impact can be disastrous. We are also highly environmentally conscious, and would appreciate you turning off all lights when not in use. Thanks for understanding.
No parties, smokers, drugs/420, and no other people can stay here. You are welcome to cook something light, but must provide all your own groceries and clean up the kitchen when you're done. No drinking or eating in bed. For long term stays, towels will be changed and the room will be vacuumed and lightly dusted once a week. Parking is limited in this area to 2 hours Mon-Friday unless you have a permit. Soap and towels are provided, otherwise please bring your own personal care products. Wet towels must be hung up in the bathroom and wet coats must be hung up on provided coat hooks. We have a blow dryer so you can leave yours at home!
Great communication and Marla made me feel welcome straight away. She was very helpful advising me on the best itinerary to see San Francisco on my last day. The location is good too, just a short walk from 24th Street Mission station. Thanks Marla!
Though Marla wasn't at the property when I arrived she was in constant contact to make sure I was okay and I had everything I needed. In fact she went out of her way to ensure that there was someone at the apartment to greet me, hand over the key and explain a few things. Whilst I was there she was most helpful in advising me on the best places to go and how to get there. She even took me on a tour of her neighbourhood. Marla was very helpful , always available when I had questions and very friendly. Marla has a beautiful and comfortable home and I have no hesitation in recommending both Marla and her home. In fact if I go back to San Francisco I will be contacting Marla first to see if she has availability. Marla was so friendly and welcoming that I felt almost part of the family and hopefully can now count her as a friend.
Had the best trip of my life! It was filled with many firsts, and I have abdolutely no regrets with my experience in SF. Had a blast!
I have driver's license but I haven't driven cars for more than 20 years in my home town. So, I looked for an accommodation near a station. This house is most convenient from the SFO airport by BART, a rapid train. It takes a little less than 10 minutes to walk to the house from the station. Also, trams stop in front of the house, which run to the center of the city without transfer. And, enjoy talking with the host.
Marla's place is a home away from home that she immediately makes you feel welcome in. It's very comfortable and convenient. Thanks Marla!
I stayed at Marla's for 2 nights. The room was cozy and neighborhood was cam and scenic. Many good restaurants in walking distance.
Marla was really friendly and helpful. She let me know all the places I have to see in San Francisco.
I would definately stay with her if I visit SF again.
Marla's place is superb. From SFO airport, using Uber just 20 minutes away. Very closed to Muni and 3 blocks from 24th St. BART. Thanks for the great stay.
