The Space

We've been interviewed by airbnb and Wired Magazine for being highly rated hosts.

This is a large private room for one person in our home with a huge sunny window in the upstairs flat. The livingroom is just on the other side of the sliding doors, so you can open them up and feel like you have a suite. The house is filled with colorful international artwork and photos, and if you ask, there are many stories behind them all. Your room has a spacious closet that is more than ample to store your things. There is a garden to sit in which is surrounded by colorful trees and visited by hummingbirds. You're welcome to use the large modern kitchen if you want to cook, as well as the laundry room. We have cable tv, wireless, a friendly neighbor in the downstairs flat and a sweet dog. This has been home to 37 foreign exchange students, dozens of international travelers and many techies from famous companies (ie, G).

Great area with wonderful weather, interesting shops, farmer's market, places of worship, mostly family owned vs. chain shops, local events and places to hang out. Lots of scenic walks if you want to explore the famous painted Victorians, and a beautiful park with a gorgeous view of the city nearby. There are many fantastic cafes, great coffee spots and restaurants of numerous ethnicities, including at least 2 restaurants on the SF Top 100 List, within a short walk.

We're centrally located and just a few steps to public transportation. The 24th & Mission BART station is a 7-8 minute walk, and downtown is 20 minutes away by the train that stops across the street. The Castro is a 10 minute walk. UCSF campuses are about 20 minutes away. The "tech" buses that go to several well-known Silicon Valley companies stops nearby. The very coolest part of the Mission District is a 10-15 minute walk. This is a safe neighborhood so you can go for walks at night. Whole Foods, a high end organic grocery with take-out food, is less than a 5 minute walk. All stores in this area are open on Sunday and all have relatively late hours.

The entire neighborhood is culturally diverse, gay friendly, full of families, happy dogs, creative type professionals and a welcoming atmosphere.

Your host is a world traveler and loves to share stories. You will feel immediately welcome. Her son also enjoys meeting new people, and will happily greet you.

Please be aware that there may be another guest while you are here. Sorry, no pets can stay or visit.

  • Marla (email hidden) and has a very
lovely home in the Noe Valley neighborhood! She's been very accommodating with not just a nice large room to stay, but took the time to offer great advice with my apartment search and insight on things to check out/SF city living. She was always accessible to answer questions through phone/texting, and enjoyed chatting with her about her experiences. Marla and her son, Jory are very nice, warming people I will def keep in touch. Great place to stay for someone new to the city!

  • Marla's home was beautiful. It was my second home instated in on my trip and continued the excellence of airbnb. Marla was fun to talk to as well as her son. Her home was located in a perfect neighbourhood; Noe Valley. There are good restaurants, coffee shops and hills to get your true San Francisco experience. There are also bus and train stops right outside, and the BART within a close walk. The home is also close to the Mission neighbourhood which offers great culture and taquerias.
Marla is very knowledgeable of the city and where to go eat. The home is clean, private, and very comfortable. I highly encourage staying in Noe with Marla.

  • Staying with Marla was a lovely experience. She made me feel at home and cared for right from the moment I arrived. Her home is lovely - very open, clean, and welcoming. The neighborhood is walking distance from a very lovely area with lots of shops and cafes, etc. Marla took quite a bit of time to explain the layout of the city to me, and made sure that I was set up with things to do and see, renting a bike, and creating a plan to make sure that I saw all of the best sides of the city. If she had space, I definitely would have stayed longer. (Also, her dog is adorable)

  • I love traveling, though I am a home-body. With traveling there is the discomforting element of being away from home for me. On a recent trip to San Francisco, my stay with Marla was exceptional! I felt completely at ease from the moment I arrived. It was as though I was at the home of a long-time friend, whom I had only just met. She is inviting and generous by sharing her time and experiences. Her house is charming, livable, and clean. She is a highly considerate and respectful host. Her profile photos are accurate. Yet, they do not capture the experiential quality of being somewhere incredibly refreshing. She is fully deserving of all her favorable reviews. I hope our paths cross again someday!

  • Marla was quick to respond to my enquiries, she was accommodating and friendly. Her place is clean, comfortable and quiet. The location was perfect for me since the purpose of my travel to SF was to visit my daughter who lives in the neighborhood. I would highly recommend staying at Marla's with her friendly dog and handsome son.

  • Marla was incredibly responsive and helpful before I even arrived in San Francisco and throughout my entire stay. Since I was looking to search for SF apts and explore the city, Marla provided me with feedback on different neighborhoods days before I came to SF. The insight she provided was a key factor in my success finding an amazing apartment. Even though I arrived late at night, Marla and Jory greeted me warmly and Marla spent a good deal of time helping me to understand the city and how to navigate it. Marla's home is beautiful and in a great location. Her hospitality and knowledge of the city made for a pleasant, comfortable stay. Overall, very positive experience!
