Large private free standing guest house, El's Place is a combination of modern cool and rustic warmth. The spacious living area has high vaulted ceilings and is flooded with natural light from french window doors and skylights. The large breezy porch is ideal for lazy afternoons reading and relaxing Hill Country evenings with friends under large porch fans.
El's Place sleeps two in a cozy bedroom with queen sized bed opening onto the porch; a daybed with trundle is situated in the living area, and adds two twin beds, making this a great solution for both romantic getaways and family breaks.
If you like to cook, there is a full kitchen and a gas grill down on the patio, beside the fire pit.
With a large private driveway, there is plenty of room for a boat or RV. A neighborhood boat ramp into Lake Austin is less than 5 minutes away. If you are in town for an Austin festival, it’s a direct shot along scenic Bee Cave Road to Zilker Park, about a 15 minute drive.
One caveat.. We don't have a washer/dryer in the Guest House.
There are two entrances to the guest house: 3 French doors look out over the front porch onto the garden of the main house; a back door provides access from the private driveway.
We like to say hello to our guests and make sure they are comfortable. Other than that, we are there if needed - we may meet if guests are out on the porch and we happen to be in the yard.
The neighborhood is quiet. The guesthouse is set well back from the road on a private driveway. This is a community of fenceless properties where people like to stroll or jog with their dogs. In 3 or 4 minutes drive you are on Bee Caves road that takes you right into the heart of Austin.
There is no public transport.

This place is amazing and such a great getaway especially if you're coming from a city like New York. It is a quick drive into downtown, but just far enough away to enjoy nature and the hills. Simon and his wife were great - so accommodating, nice and interesting to talk to! The place was spotless and had everything we needed to cook! We definitely hope to return here! Thanks again, Simon!
Simon's place couldn't have been more perfect. My wife and I visited Austin to attend South by Southwest and do some sightseeing around the Texas Hill Country. It was the perfect vacation retreat for us, close enough to Austin to give us easy driving access to restaurants, concerts, and boutiques, yet far enough away to enjoy quiet starlit nights on cozy reclining chairs set up on a giant porch that looks out on a fig tree, prickly pear cactus, and lovely landscaped space decorated with clay sculptures, tile mosaics and other attractive works of folk art. Simon and his wife are kind, gracious, responsive, witty, and easy going, and we enjoyed several warm conversations during our visit. The place was large and spotlessly clean, with a well-furnished kitchen for cooking and skylights that keep the living space bright and airy. Simon even left us a complimentary six pack of Modelos, chips and salsa, and a couple slices of pie when we arrived----a great welcome to kick off a wonderful SXSW adventure. We were saddened to have to leave, and can't wait to come back.
This guest house might just be the hidden jewel of Austin Airbnb listings. It's incredibly sunny during the day and way more spacious than the photos imply - there's even a dining table in the kitchen! We had a fantastic time, and our only sadness was that the calendar was full for bookings after our visit so we couldn't immediately book another stay.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and the place was simply amazing. The guest house had all the appeal of our own home and more. It had a charm all of its own that was undeniable from the second you walked in. We enjoyed the spacious kitchen area as well as the windows in the home. Everything was perfect! If you are considering this guest home, you will not be disappointed.
My husband and I stayed at the adobe style cottage for 4 nights while visiting our son in West Austin. Simon's guesthouse was absolutely fabulous and nicely situated off of Bee Caves Rd. It is 20-30 minutes west of downtown, depending on traffic. The property is very quiet, with rustic landscape and trees. The cottage is light- filled and comes with access to a very happy dog named Molly who likes to visit. The cottage, originally built as an artists' studio was well-furnished and charming. Everything was beyond our expectations, from the fully furnished kitchen, to the comfort of the bed. It was very very clean. The porch was awesome for relaxing and very private. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even those with kids because it had a day bed/with trundle. We can't wait to return.
Definitely wonderful because the hosts were accommodating and everything was as advertised.
The Southwestern Adobe Guest House was exactly as advertised! Simon and his wife made my wife and me feel like friends from the moment we arrived. We were so busy it was unfortunate we didn't have more time to spend with them. But sweet Molly, the dog, was around and always willing to let us pet her!
I especially liked the setting. It felt as though we were out in the middle of the woods, but we weren't. My wife loves to cook and certainly enjoyed the full kitchen. The natural light was abundant and the bed was comfortable, too.
I had a great stay and would definitely go back.
Simon went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable stay, evening going to the extent of making special requested arrangements. The space was beautiful, spacious, well furnished and comfortable. The pictures really don't give the experience justice.
If you've stumbled upon this guest house, give it serious consideration I guarantee you won't be disappointed, it definitely exceeded my already high expectations. Happy travels! - Gerald
Just wanted to leave a note to say how nice my stay was at El's Place. Simon and his wife left to go out of town the day I arrived and we were unable to meet in person - we chatted a few times on the phone and he was very kind, personable and helpful. I rated my overall experience with 4 out of 5 stars only because the weather took a turn for the cold (actually freezing at night) and I didn't get to enjoy relaxing on the beautiful front porch enjoying the Hill County air like I wished, but inside was cozy and warm. The house was very clean, enormous well stocked kitchen & bathroom and the bedroom was very cute. On a warm Spring day you could open the patio doors in the bedroom that step out to the porch and take a nice breezy nap. Just to note: I was alone on my trip for relaxation from my chaotic Houston life but Simon's little paradise is large enough for a family with 2 children - there is a day trundle bed in the living room for the little ones. Oh, forgot to mention the herd of deer that stopped by in the mornings at dawn to say hello, smiles!
Thank you Simon, :^)
Hopefully be back early late Spring or early Summer,
First of all, the guesthouse was amazing. It was well equipped and beautiful with every amenity that we needed - including soft sheets and a big bag of local tortilla chips awaiting us. :) The house is really sunny and it was such an awesome place to wake up in the morning - quiet, warm, with the huge porch to lounge on and drink coffee.
Simon and Sylvia were perfect hosts, they were attentive and thoughful, and addressed any questions promptly. Their cat Welly and dog Molly were wonderful additions to the homey feeling of the place, gretting us with meows and stumpy tail wags.
We had such a great time at the guest house - thank you for everything! We miss you guys already!
