About this listing
The guest house is set well back from the road and, with its private gravel driveway and wooded surroundings, is a relaxing hideout. Enjoy sitting on the porch with a glass of wine after a busy day in town.
Large private free standing guest house, El's Place is a combination of modern cool and rustic warmth. The spacious living area has high vaulted ceilings and is flooded with natural light from french window doors and skylights. The large breezy porch is ideal for lazy afternoons reading and relaxing Hill Country evenings with friends under large porch fans.
El's Place sleeps two in a cozy bedroom with queen sized bed opening onto the porch; a daybed with trundle is situated in the living area, and adds two twin beds, making this a great solution for both romantic getaways and family breaks.
If you like to cook, there is a full kitchen and a gas grill down on the patio, beside the fire pit.
With a large private driveway, there is plenty of room for a boat or RV. A neighborhood boat ramp into Lake Austin is less than 5 minutes away. If you are in town for an Austin festival, it’s a direct shot along scenic Bee Cave Road to Zilker Park, about a 15 minute drive.
One caveat.. We don't have a washer/dryer in the Guest House.
There are two entrances to the guest house: 3 French doors look out over the front porch onto the garden of the main house; a back door provides access from the private driveway.
Interaction with Guests
We like to say hello to our guests and make sure they are comfortable. Other than that, we are there if needed - we may meet if guests are out on the porch and we happen to be in the yard.
The neighborhood is quiet. The guesthouse is set well back from the road on a private driveway. This is a community of fenceless properties where people like to stroll or jog with their dogs. In 3 or 4 minutes drive you are on Bee Caves road that takes you right into the heart of Austin.
There is no public transport.
Other Things to Note
We have a small washer/dryer and over-the-air TV (no cable) with a Roku Box for internet TV channels such as Netflix and Amazon.
No smoking in the house. We keep cleaning fees to a minimum and ask that guests leave the place clean and tidy.
Such a pleasant environment tucked back from the main house & road.
The guesthouse was bright & cheerful flooded with natural light.
Simon was very friendly and fun to talk to. The cottage is excellent. The rooms are all nice size and clean. We stayed when it was 105 degrees in August and the A/C kept us cool. The beds are very comfortable, and the furnishings thru out are very good. The main bedroom is private. Bath and good shower with lot's of hot water. The kitchen is large and well equipped with large full size fridge and stove, plus microwave and coffee maker. Private parking 10 feet from the door. We stayed a week and having so much room and a nice kitchen makes a big difference when you stay that long. We will book it again.
The adobe house was delightful, even on the warmest Austin days! Clean, bright and sunny, spacious, well equipped and charming. The setting is peaceful, and only a few miles away from shopping and easy access to downtown. Simon and his wife were most welcoming. I had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!
Staying here at Simons was an amazing experience. The place is beautiful and picturesque nestled in the trees with lovely flowers and cactus around it. It was peaceful and only about 20 min from downtown by car making it easy to see all that Austin has to offer and still having a peaceful space to kick back after a long day. Simon was easy to get in contact with for all our questions and was a wonderful host who I would definitely recommend to others! This was my first experience in Austin and with using airbnb and it definitely exceeded expectations!
The adobe house was delightful, comfortable, sparkling clean, charmingly decorated, with very well equipped kitchen and bath. The location was peaceful and convenient to all that Austin and Texas Hill Country offer. We loved sitting on the big porch and enjoying the beautiful Texas spring weather. Simon was very helpful and gave us lots of good tips for making the most of our first stay in Austin. Wonderful!
We were in town for SXSW and Simon's guest house was the perfect getaway from the bustle and excitement of downtown mid festival. During traffic it was a 20ish minute drive into downtown, and with no traffic it only took about 15 minutes to get home at night.
The space was clean and Simon was a great host. He met us upon arrival, gave us advice about routes and restaurants, and even left us with a bottle of wine, a box of cookies, and a fancy chocolate bar.
I would definitely stay here again when visiting the Austin area. It really was a quite and beautiful neighborhood.
We felt welcomed by our host having a good supply of staples in the cupboard and some things in refrigerator. Our host came to visit us soon after we moved in and wanted to know if there was anything we needed. He made a few needed repairs in a short time. Our host helped set up wifi for iPad and computer.

About the Host, Simon
Born in the U.K., I moved to Italy when I was in my teens and spent a lot of my adult life there. As many, I moved to Austin for a spell and ended up staying. Difficult to move away from that southern warmth...and now that I am married to a girl from New Orleans, I am here for good..
Photographer, sailor, rower and sometime runner, I love the Austin outdoors and life in the hill country. I am a passionate cook, and a South Austin type of guy when it comes to eating out. The choice and creativity in food, south of the river, is really a match for any town and one of the reasons I bought my house in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood. I have just started listing both Studio and Guest House on AirBnB so come check them out!
