Retreat in our magical mountain brook yurt, a private and unique getaway. Come to write, read, create, connect or find stillness and silence with the our spring-fed mountain brook and the forest as your mesmerizing backdrop. Enjoy this quiet respite, under a canopy of trees, and nestle into your private getaway on the slopes of Pleasant Mountain. Make this your base for outdoor recreation and adventure, with hiking or (snowshoeing) trails right out side your door.
Our yurt sits on 33 wooded and sloped acres at the base of Pleasant Mountain. Nurture Through Nature Eco-Retreat Center offers private hiking trails, a crystal clear brook with dipping pools and granite sleuths right near by. We are surrounded by Nature Conservancy and Loon Echo Land Trust lands, forever protected from development.
The yurt is part of Maine's first green certified retreat center. Amenities include all that you need for simple cooking and meals on your own, a pull out futon couch for a couple and single bed(s) set up especially by request.
There is a new composting toilet nearby, olive oil lanterns, an outdoor fire pit, hammock and outdoor seating.
Please note there is no running water or electricity in the yurt. A seasonal outdoor shower is available at the nearby Pioneer Cabin. Also, we now have a hot shower for our guests, a hybrid system with solar, wood and propane on demand for limited, mindful usage, located a 5 minute walk away, as a private shower room in the Pioneer Cabin. YAY!
Once your booking is complete with AIRBNB, you will be given a link to our Yoga and Healing Arts Services. It's a self~check in system. We recommend coming before dark as there is minimal outdoor lighting and the yurt is tucked in the woods along a trail. We provide a map in the parking area with a lit sign. The caretaker will meet up with you on your first morning (or first evening if you arrive at a compatible time) to be sure you are all set and to see if you have any questions.
WINTER ACCESS IS BY FOOT. It's about a 5 minute walk up the access road and down the trail another 75 yards. A sled with a harness is provided. Pack in bags or backpacks. During spring, summer and fall, we recommend AWD or FWD access only. Access road is rough and steep in places. We provide garden carts to bring your gear in.
The yurt has a notebook/manual explaining how to live comfortably in the yurt.
Private hiking trails, spring fed mountain brook, community Healing Arts classes by donation, added services such as massage or private sauna steam bath.
Interaction with Guests
We respect our guests' privacy and after an initial meeting and orientation, we are available if something comes up. There are occasions where the hosts will not be present during your stay, and just a cell phone call away.
Rural countryside located along a quiet, well~maintained, unpaved road. Lots of trees, wildlife, and sky.
Public transportation to and from Naples and Portland, Maine. Naples is about 20 miles east of Nurture Through Nature Retreat Center. Also, Concord Trailways bus line has a stop in Conway, NH, 20 miles west. We can pick you for our gas and a little for our time with advanced request.
Other Things to Note
Most guests ask if the cabins and yurts are private. All of our retreats are carefully located for the utmost privacy and respect for the natural lay of the land, tucked in natural openings within the forest.
We have just started a Healing Arts Collective where local practitioners come here to share their skills and practices by offering classes and workshops in our on site yoga studio. Most offerings are by donation. Feel free to enhance your experience here by enjoying yoga and other classes here.
Please no smoking or pets. This is a part of a green retreat center and we welcome people interested in a quiet getaway and reconnecting with nature and healing. Please take good care of the place, the land, and you so others may follow and receive the same pristine experience. We love the yurt and are happy to share it with those who have a caretaker philosophy. Thank you....Jen
We had the most incredible retreat at our Mountain Brook Yurt. When we arrived the yurt was clean and ready with jugs of water on hand. The property the yurt is located on is simply quite magical. I would even compare it to an enchanted forest. We had a great time walking on the hiking trails and exploring the mountain brook. We also made use of the wood fired cedar sauna that is on the property, which was truly an experience like no other, and I definitely recommend it. The yurt was indeed very private and exactly what we were looking for on this trip. We will definitely be heading back, perhaps next time in the winter to do some snowshoeing.
Jen found us minutes after we arrived and made us feel very comfy and welcomed. The yurt was an adventure in itself and Hope and I jumped right in...from our walk to the mountain top- to our "dip" (fast!) in the magical stream below our yurt world. Pretty wonderful place this lady has brought into existence!!!
We had a fantastic time at the Mountain Brook Yurt. Positioned deep in the woods near a bubbling mountain stream, the yurt well lives up to its name. We spent our time hiking, steaming in the sauna, bathing in the brook, and playing board games by candle light. I would highly recommend this experience to all who enjoy rustic living. Though, as the host recommends, be prepared to keep the mosquitoes at bay, they are no joke in the summer. Lastly, if you come, make sure to visit the emerald waterfall along the brook, I won't say anymore, but its definitely worth the hike.
Our stay at Maine Mountain Brook Yurt Retreat was just what we were looking for. It was a good hike into the yurt in the beautiful fresh snow and the yurt itself was cozy and warm. A perfect place to carve some time out in nature with the family. Hope to visit in the warmer months to see all this property has to offer and to take a quick dip in the neighboring brook! Thanks to our gracious hosts, you all are amazing at what you do!
This was the perfect getaway for a fall weekend in Maine! We loved the simplicity of the yurt (which had a lot of luxuries :)) and the quiet relaxing area. I'd highly recommend the sauna too - we went into the brook in between sessions which was quite a shock but made us feel great. Thank you, Jen!
What a magical place! We stayed in the Yurt, which is fully equiped and in the middle of the forest close to a wonderful brooke. The hikes were amazing, the care-taker was extremely friendly & helpful, the campfire+marshmallows at night were fabulous, the dives in the streams were chilly but refreshing and the sauna was an absolutely on-of-a-kind experience.
We enjoyed every second of it!
I just had the most relaxing, rejuvenating weekend staying at Jen's yurt. We absolutely loved the yurt, cooking dinner over the fire outside, using the sauna, and dipping in the stream. I can't wait to go back in the winter.
The amenities of the yurt are great, and really all that you need -- there is enough to cook and eat with, the propane stove works as well as most household stoves, and the futon is comfortable. Washing dishes is a bit of an adventure, as you have to bring water to the yurt in bucket (from the stream) -- but it's still eons easier than if you were camping.
Take time to enjoy the sauna if you go!

I am from Maine and have created an earth~friendly retreat center, Nurture Through Nature. I love nature and learning what the natural world has to teach. I also love sharing the land and our eco-cabins and yurts with people interested in exploring simple living, green living and an alternative energy lifestyle. I also appreciate the healing arts, such as yoga, meditation, massage therapy and dance; and offer those services here through an amazing group of local healing arts practitioners.
My favorite things are really good coffee, dark chocolate, music, photography, exploring in nature, quiet places, canoeing, hiking, biking and my cat, Molly.
