The Space

ALL answers to frequently asked questions are detailed below. Please read details about description, transportation and house rules, and contact me AFTER you've read this full description, and I will be happy to discuss with you.

Elevator building. Very CLEAN, quiet, luxurious private room in an historic well-maintained pre-war apartment building. Historical Northern Manhattan neighborhood of Inwood. Best suited for 2 guests but many groups of 3 have managed nicely with a third guest on the very comfortable sofa (not a sofa bed, but a comfy sofa with all linens).

*Extremely comfortable 12 X 17 foot room with Double Murphy bed for two people and one very comfortable full sized sofa for the third.
*Large flat screen TV
*Netflix and network channels)
*Coffee Maker, electric kettle, coffee and tea
*Quiet air conditioner
*Working fireplace
*Dining table
*Armoire to hang clothes which also holds extra pillows, blankets, spa robes and slippers for your use.

*Shared only with myself, and you.
*Excellent shower and large luxurious tub.
*Fresh soft linens and towels are provided.

*Coffee, tea and toast with butter and jams for breakfast, all self-served. You are also welcomed to keep your own breakfast items in the fridge. Kitchen use is for getting your breakfast only.

There are no pets living here and the only one you are sharing the apartment with is me.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO GUESTS AFTER YOU BOOK WITH ME *Please make sure to read and BRING your travel itinerary which you received in email after booking. This will be necessary to have for your check-in.
*Check-in time is after 2 PM till 10 PM. But you must schedule a check-in appointment time with me. Unfortunately I cannot accept late night check-ins after 10.
*I go off hosting duty after 10:30 PM, so if your travel plans are scheduled for a landing after 8 PM, you would be better suited for a different BnB.
*Parking: There is a very affordable and safe 24 hour parking garage within three blocks of the building and occasionally free street parking when available. The daily rate is only $18.00. (Garage address is included in the itinerary sent when booking the room.)

I hope to see you soon!

Your host in service,

Guest Access

Guests have their own key. I work from home and the apartment is small, so guests who would prefer to be "home" during the day working or resting or streaming wifi, are not suited for this listing. Internet streaming is available at night.

Kitchen access is for morning only, no access to kitchen at night. You will have an electric kettle in your room for making your tea. Morning use of kitchen is for preparing your breakfast, using toaster and microwave, but there is no cooking allowed. This is for safety/liability reasons as well as "collateral damage". There is no curfew here and guests are welcomed to come and go at all hours with their key. Guests also have access to the 24 hour laundry room in the basement as there is no hand-washing of clothing allowed.

Interaction with Guests

In addition to being your wonderful Host, I have my separate personal/professional life and so keep mostly to myself while providing you with utmost privacy. I am very welcoming and accommodating of Guest needs. I am also a friendly host who cares about each person's experience. Once checked in, I am available to contact for any questions either in the apartment or in email, but do not generally have much time to spend socially or entertaining. For single travelers who are less independent and seeking companionship from hosts, this may not be the arrangement they are seeking. I do occasionally enjoy going out with guests but due to my schedule this option is often unavailable.

The Neighborhood

Northern Manhattan neighborhood is a gem. Rated one of the safest in the city, Inwood is a thriving and diverse community of artists, musicians, students and professionals, with plenty of live music and wonderful food and drink just steps away. Guests can feel quite safe returning home late at night.
We are very close to major subways, #1 train, and #A train (5 and 10 minutes walk) and surrounded by beautiful parks, artsy cafes, wine bars, juice bars, Irish pubs, an excellent Deli and a weekend organic farmer's market. We have drop-in Yoga, tennis courts and the beautiful Green Way bike trail along the Hudson River with a bike shop providing rental bikes, and a boat yard. We are also across the street from Columbia University's Athletic Field. Our wooded parks have walking/hiking trails and a nature preservation center.

Getting Around

We are five and ten minute walk to two major metro lines; the A train (express into midtown) and the #1 train (west side local), both getting you to Times Square and Columbus Circle within a 30 minute ride. We have abundant taxis around the neighborhood and of course UBER.
We are 40 minutes from JFK and about 30 minutes from LaGuardia airports by taxi, depending on time of day. Cost of taxi is approx $70 including tip and toll from JFK, approx $55 from LaGuardia. Distance from Newark Airport to upper Manhattan is about 40 minutes. There is a "Super Shuttle" available from Newark Airport into Manhattan. Check online for prices and schedules.

Subways to downtown:
The two subway lines are very safe and easy. Cost is $2.75 per ride with a free crosstown transfer. 30 minutes to Central Park (Columbus Circle) on the "A" train and 40 minutes on the "#1" line (local). 35 minutes to Times Square. 40 minutes to Penn Station. The walk home from the stations here are short and very safe in this family-oriented neighborhood. You are guaranteed a seat on the subway from either of our subway stations at any time of day or night.

Taxis to downtown:
By taxi we are a straight shot (20 minutes) down the West Side Highway to the city's most popular destinations, making it very easy to get home.

Other Things to Note

This listing is only suited for tourists, business trips, or visiting grandparents and family members etc who will be spending the majority of the day out and about exploring the city or with relatives. Guests are expected to be out for the day by noon. If you are needing a room for staying in and working, sleeping or resting in during the day, this would not be the listing for you. This does not include the special circumstances of surgical patients staying for their procedure at the hospital who are of course welcomed to recover here.

No late night arrivals, sorry. Flights to Newark Airport must only be scheduled for afternoon arrivals because of the 2+ hour commute from New Jersey to the apartment. Evening flights to Newark would result in a late night check in, which I cannot accommodate. I can only accommodate those who's flights are scheduled to land before 7PM. Check ins are only accommodated by 10PM.

*Special note about reservations over New Year's Eve 2017: Guests must be dressed and out for the evening by 9 PM sharp on New Year's Eve. No waiting till eleven to head out for the party!

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)
Check-in time is 2PM - 10PM.

Please read all following:
-Guests must have a working cell phone with data access or a sim card to communicate with me after arriving at the airport and on the way here.

-This room is only suited for tourists, visiting grandparents, etc, as guests are expected to be out for the day by noon. If you are needing a room for staying in and working, sleeping or resting in during the day, this would not be the listing for you.

-Unfortunately I cannot accommodate late night arrivals after 10 PM, which is when I go off hosting duty. As there is a significant difference in travel time between taxi and subway, guests must let me know whether planning to take a taxi or the train from the airport BEFORE HAND so that we can arrange a check-in time accordingly.

-Kitchen access is for morning only, with no access to kitchen at night. You will have an electric kettle and coffee maker in your room for making your tea and coffee. Morning use of kitchen is for preparing your breakfast, using toaster, fridge and microwave, but there is no cooking allowed. This is for safety/liability reasons as well as "collateral damage".

-Only registered guests are allowed on the premises. Apartment cannot accommodate children, sorry (including no young grandchildren who live locally. Sorry - liability issues.)

-I provide clean towels and sheets once a week for reservations over 10 days.

-Please hang towels and wet washcloths in the bathroom after use and never in your room on the furniture.

- While I understand that hand-washing undergarments while traveling is commonplace in some cultures, it is not allowed here. Please pack enough clothing for the duration of your visit, and remember that self-service laundry facilities are provided for your use in the basement of the building.

-Please eat at your dining table in your private room, and not on the sofa or bed.

-Unfortunately I don't provide luggage storage or early bag drop-off before a scheduled check-in. There is available for you an affordable luggage storage option near Grand Central Station for use between your check-out time and your flight departure. It is called Schwartz Travel and Luggage.

-In cases of reservations for 3 guests where only 1 or 2 are fluent in English, all 3 guests in your group must check in at the same time (acceptable check-in times are explained in the description) because I can only give one orientation tour, so all guests staying here must be present to hear the orientation together. This is due to the fact that relying on the first guest to interpret on their own for the other guests at a later time, doesn't work.

Thank you for your cooperation.
