Important - Please read to the very end:
Welcome to my beautiful little music cafe apartment in Historic Northern Manhattan! ALL questions about the apartment are answered in this description, so please contact me ONLY AFTER you've read this full description, and I will be happy to discuss with you.
This listing is primarily suited for tourists who will be spending the majority of the day out and about, exploring the city. I work from home and the apartment is small so guests who would prefer to be "home" during the day working or resting, would definitely be better suited for a different listing. Apartment cannot accommodate children, sorry :-( .
This is a very CLEAN, quiet, luxurious room in an old but well-maintained elevator pre-war apartment building, which is in an historical Northern Manhattan neighborhood called Inwood. The neighborhood is a gem. Rated one of the safest in the city, Inwood is a thriving and diverse community of artists, musicians, students and professionals. Plenty of live music with wonderful food and drink just steps away. We are very close to major subways, #1 train, and #A train (5 and 10 minutes walk) and surrounded by beautiful parks, artsy cafes, wine bars, juice bars, Irish pubs, an excellent Deli and a weekend organic farmer's market. We have drop-in Yoga, tennis courts and the beautiful Green Way bike trail along the Hudson River with a bike shop providing rental bikes, and a boat yard. We are also across the street from Columbia University's Athletic Field. Our wooded parks have walking/hiking trails and a nature preservation center. There is very affordable and safe 24 hour parking within three blocks of the building and occasionally free street parking when available.
We are 40 minutes from JFK and about 30 minutes from LaGuardia airports by taxi, depending on time of day. (approx $70 including tip and toll from JFK, approx $55 from LaGuardia). You are guaranteed a seat on the subway from either of our subway stations at any time of day or night. By taxi we are a straight shot (20 minutes) down the West Side Highway to the city's most popular destinations, making it very easy to get home. The two subway lines are very safe and easy. 30 minutes to Central Park (Columbus Circle) on the "A" train and 40 minutes on the "1" line (local). 35 minutes to Times Square. The walk home from the stations are short and very safe in this family-oriented neighborhood. Your room here is beautiful, comfortable, clean and private. The room is best suited for 2 guests but many groups of 3 have managed quite nicely with a third guest on the very comfortable sofa (not a sofa bed, just a new comfy sofa with all linens). I had a guest say that the sofa is "more comfortable than any bed!" You will experience no noise disturbances here from the building. The room has a very comfortable Double Murphy bed for two, large flat screen TV (Netflix and network channels only), Free WiFi high-speed internet, quiet air conditioner, working fireplace, dining table and comfy sofa (which sleeps a third person) and a very nice quiet fan for extra comfort. There is armoire space to hang clothes which also holds extra pillows and blankets for your use, and dresser drawer space as well. Shared bathroom in the hall (shared only with myself, and you) with large luxurious tub (for bubbly herbal baths after a long day of exploring the city) and epic NYC shower. Fresh soft linens and towels are provided. There are no pets here and the only one you are sharing the apartment with is me. In addition to being your wonderful Host, I have my separate personal/professional life and so keep mostly to myself while providing you with utmost privacy. I have lived in Manhattan for over 20 years, have been expertly hosting for over 3 years, and am happy to provide you with any information you might need to enjoy your stay in the city.
Please note that due to the recent boom in AirBnB's popularity here in NYC, resulting in very economical competitive rates for you, I can no longer offer full breakfasts. I provide instead coffee, tea and toast with butter and jams for breakfast, all self-served. But you are welcomed to keep your own breakfast items in the fridge.
As there is no common living room, guests who are booking a longer stay should be sure that they are comfortable sharing their one room with their travel partner, and not expect to be allowed to hang out in other areas of the tiny apartment (kitchen, bathroom, hall) to use their devices etc. Hanging out in the common areas is not allowed. Your room only is for hanging out in.
A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO GUESTS AFTER YOU BOOK WITH ME: Please make sure to read, print out, and BRING your travel itinerary which is in the address and directions that you will receive on this site after booking. This way, if I am not available by phone to talk you through it during your commute, you will have exact and easy directions to get to my place! Check-in time is 2PM. If you need a different arrival time you must notify me in advance and I can accommodate. Unfortunately I cannot accept late night check-ins. If travel plans have you arriving after 9PM, you would be better suited for a different BnB.
Hope to see you soon!
This listing is primarily suited for tourists who will be spending the majority of the day out and about, exploring the city. I work from home and the apartment is small so guests who would prefer to be "home" during the day working or resting, would probably be better suited elsewhere.
Guests have their own key, limited access to the kitchen (for preparing your breakfast only) unless a guest is a very experienced cook. This is for safety/liability reasons. There is no curfew here and guests are welcomed to come and go at all hours with their key.
Interaction with Guests
I am very welcoming and accommodating of Guest needs. I am also a friendly host who cares about each person's experience. Once checked in, I am available to contact for any questions either in the apartment or in email, but do not generally have much time to spend socially or entertaining. For single travelers who are less independent and seeking companionship from hosts, this may not be the arrangement they are seeking. I do occasionally enjoy going out with guests but due to my schedule this option is often unavailable.
We are five and ten minute walk to two major metro lines; the A train (express into midtown) and the #1 train (west side local), both getting you to Times Square and Columbus Circle within a 30 minute ride.
For guests arriving by car, the best parking garage is:
216 10 Parking Corporation
4055 10th Ave
New York, NY (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
The entrance is on 10 Ave between 216 and 218th street, right across from a gas station and just beneath the #1 Subway line. The daily rate is just $13.00.
-This is a listing for non-smokers and not suitable for those who want to smoke outside of the building on the street.
-Guests must speak and read fluent English. Guests should have a working cell phone with data access or a sim card so that check-in information and communication with host is able to be relayed.
-Check-in time is around 2PM. If you need a much later arrival time you may notify me in advance so I can accommodate you.
-Only registered guests are allowed on the premises (including no young grandchildren who live locally but want to come with their visiting grand-parents even while just checking in. Sorry - liability issues.)
-I ask that use of the kitchen is limited to refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and kettle. This is for liability reasons as there have been fires started by distracted guests. Kitchen access is limited to before 9:30 pm. For long term reservations we can discuss use of the kitchen, and limited to an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening.
-I ask that furniture be respected (for example, NO HANGING DAMP TOWELS OR DAMP CLOTHING OVER THE NICE WOODEN CHAIRS OR UPHOLSTERED CHAIRS- (this can damage furniture). I prefer that guests use the laundry facilities in our basement for washing clothes, instead of hand-washing clothing as there is no place to hang them in the apartment.
-Please use the laundry facilities downstairs rather than hand-washing clothes.
-Please eat at your dining table in your private room, and not on the sofa or bed.
-As there is no common living room, guests who are booking a longer stay should be sure that they are comfortable sharing their one room with their travel partner, and not expect to be allowed to hang out in other areas of the tiny apartment (kitchen, bathroom, hall) for prolongued use of their devices etc. Hanging out in the common areas is not allowed. Your room only is for hanging out in.
-I ask that noise level be kept low for neighbors, especially while entering and exiting the apartment.
-Phone conversations must stay within your room and not in the common areas such as kitchen, bathroom or hall.
*Significant violations of house rules will result in immediate termination of the reservation, and the forfeiture of all fees paid for the reservation.
I provide information for a luggage storage service near Times Square for use between check-out time and your flight departure. I provide clean towels and sheets once a week.
Other than that, I only ask that you enjoy your time here and clean up after yourselves. Thank you!
