My wife and I coined the phrase Homestay For Life for the friendships we have initiated and have maintained with our international guests through the years. Homestay For Life is an accommodation and student service provider which began in our home in 2003. We coined the phrase Homestay For Life for the friendships we have initiated and have maintained with our international guests through the years. Homestay For Life is an accommodation and student service provider which began in our home in 2003. We realized early on that we did not merely rent rooms to people but developed and nurtured friendships for life. My wife and I are a diversified couple who love to travel and have seen most of the world. We understand and are sensitive to foreign cultures and welcome the diversities and customs of international guests. We decided to start a service by offering private bedrooms in our own home to tourists, interns and students. Then shortly thereafter, we began building a network of locations in Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx and Westchester County for additional travelers with our friends and neighbors who too realized the enjoyment and benefits of hosting visitors in their own homes. Our service is growing rapidly with new student arrivals, new host families, and partnerships with schools and agencies from around the world. We welcome our new guests to New York and the beginning of a friendship for life.

Homestay Rules

It became apparent after hosting several homestay guests that we needed to establish some guidelines and expectations. By no means are we attempting to offend you, or be insensitive to different cultures or customs. However, having experienced some awkward situations, we don’t assume anything anymore. We want to continue to maintain high standards and make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible.

Please note that some of these rules may not apply to the location where you are residing. Therefore, it is important for you to discuss these rules upon your arrival with your host to see if they are applicable to your situation.

Please review the following requests:

Most Americans shower regularly. We expect the same from our guests.

Please shower for only 5 to10 minutes. Utility and fuel costs are very expensive in New York, and hot water is limited and must be shared by the entire household. (See Surcharge Addendum)

Walking around in a towel or undergarment in our family environment is not appropriate.

All grooming, make-up, manicures, pedicures, etc. need to be done in the bathroom only.

Due to the high probability of permanent staining on towels and the bathroom countertop and rugs, it is not permitted to color your hair at home.

Personal body hair needs to be removed from the bathtub or shower after each use.

Please be considerate of other guests and refrain from using strong fragrances, perfumes or colognes inside the home.

The bathtub, shower, sink, etc. need to be kept clean after each use. You may be requested to create a cleaning schedule with your roommates to maintain the bathroom clean and sanitary.

Only toilet tissue can be flushed down the toilet. Anything else will clog and damage the plumbing.

Since we don’t lock any doors in the home, your bedroom needs to be clean and organized at all times. We are not a college dormitory, nor is there any maid service.

LIGHTS need to be turned off when not in use.

Major appliances can only be used with permission and under the supervision of your host.

Front door outdoor lights need to be turned off when the last person arrives home.

Windows need to be kept closed when the air conditioner or heat is in use.

When eating independently of the family, your dishes and cookware need to be washed. You may be requested to create a cleaning schedule with your roommates to maintain the kitchen clean and sanitary.

It is not permitted to tape, paste, post, and pin or hang anything on the bedroom walls or doors.

Food and drinks are not allowed to be eaten or stored in the bedroom.

The excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden.

Substance abuse or the use of illegal drugs is grounds for immediate termination.

Neither personal guests nor overnight guests are allowed to visit without previous approval.

Personal pets of any kind are not permitted with your homestay without previous approval.

You may not use your Homestay address to receive mail or packages without permission.

When observing religious rituals or prayers, please conduct them quietly in the privacy of your room.

Due to the risk of fire; laptops, cell phones and any other electronic devices cannot be left charging in your absence.

It is important that you do not answer the front door when no one else is at home.

Cooking food is not permitted.

Smoking is not allowed indoors.

Mr. & Mrs. Longo are great host I have met on Airbnb so far- I was a bit nervous because I planned to stay there for a month and many things could lead to unpleasant experiences. For example, I am not a smoker and my nose gets sick when I smell it; I need to wake up at ~7a but I know some people don't like being waked in the morning that early; also, limited kitchen space/ dining space may also be a problem. But, the way they handle these small things makes me feel they are extremely experienced and thought through the problems carefully in the past, which makes the stay rather pleasant. The house located very close to the shopping centers, but a bit far from the train station (one of the rentees mentioned that there is a bus to the train station but I personally has never tried that). The parking space is a bit limited but they manage the space nicely so everyone is happy ( we had 4 cars need parking so one of us will block others when all parked in the front yard, but we manage to do so). So if there is a chance that I will stay for a while in White Plains again, I will choose to stay with the Longo family, because I can't find any other place better than them in that area (unless I got my own place). It's very easy to get along with them - follow the rules, and stay happy :)

The hosts are very welcoming. Place is very clean and located in a convenient location with nearby grocery stores, restaurant, and transportation. They also have lots of experience hosting and other guests in the house who can help.

You can't feel more at home then at Don and Tatiana's house, I had such a great time with you and the whole staying team. At Don's house you got pure entertainment all the time, there is always something going on. Don and Tatiana provide you with all possible tipps where to go and what to do around NY. Don't worry about food, Don know's where to go and eventually he drives you there. Thank you very much and hope to see you again !
