The Space

At Malabar Cove we are trying to keep a natural environment where guests can explore the little paths of our coconut grove by the beautiful Arabian Sea. The local people live by fishing and harvesting coconuts.

Malabar Cove Beach House offers three twin en-suite rooms. The Beach House also includes an Ayurveda Room with bathroom and a roof top Yoga Shala with kitchenette and bathroom. The Ayurveda Room can be used as an extra en-suite room if required.

The accommodation is comfortable with European style bathrooms, solar water heating and staff help (if and when required).

Breakfast is included in the full tariff. Other meals available from a small menu including barbecue.

Malabar Cove Guest Accommodation is simplicity with home comforts. Outside, village life goes on. Fishermen go down to the sea each day with their nets and colourful boats, coconuts are harvested and ladies bash washing on their 'house rocks'. Guests can bash washing too - though we do have a laundry service!

There are no cars in the village and there is no light pollution, so at night the sky is as black as can be and the stars are a magnificent sight.

Malabar Cove is close to the famous Drive-in Beach of Muzhappilangad.

Tariff: Rs7000 Approx: $110 / £75 - Three twin en-suite rooms.
If a further twin en-suite room is required, the Ayurveda Room can be made into a guest room - making total occupancy eight.

Extra adult in twin room - Rs500 Child - no charge
All guest rooms have a ceiling fan. Air cooler available on request.
Yoga and Ayurveda available on request.
Yoga Groups welcome.
Tuition in Kalaripayattu can be arranged (Kerala Martial Arts).
Help with arranging tours of Kerala.
Help with arranging flights. (We put guests in touch with known reputable companies).
Lots of interesting places to explore. A car with driver can be arranged. Local cafes and hotel dining is within easy reach. Some big hotels have swimming pools which guests can pay to use.
Nearest airport is Calicut/Kozhikode - two to three hours by car - depends on number of stops to explore! The newly constructed Kannur Airport is due to open 2016 reducing airport transfer to 30 - 40 minutes.
Nearest Railway Stations: Kannur (north) and Tellicherry (south) - both approximately twenty-five minutes by car. Transfers can be arranged.

The Neighborhood

Malabar Cove Beach House is set in a Coconut Grove on the shores of the Arabian Sea in North Kerala. It is a perfect hideaway.

There are no cars in the village and there is no light pollution, so at night the sky is as black as can be and the stars are a magnificent sight.

Malabar Cove Beach House is simplicity with home comforts.
Outside, village life goes on. Fishermen go down to the sea each day with their nets and colourful boats. Coconuts are harvested. Ladies bash their washing on the rocks. Guests can do this too - though we do have a laundry service.

Inside the Beach House, guests can hide away with a book, watch TV or DVD, chat to staff, try Kerala cooking, take simple Ayurveda treatments. Yoga can be arranged. Tuition in Kalaripayattu (Kerala martial arts) can be arranged.

Tours of Kerala can be planned with the help of staff and wall maps.

It is recommended that guests experience a local back-water trip with a visit to a Children's School of Kerala Dance and Arts.

A MUST DO: Take a drive on the famous Drive-in Beach of Muzhappilangad. The beach is four kilometres long. It is great fun to drive along skimming the waves. Sundays can get very busy with Indian people who travel there for a family day out.

Getting Around

There are no cars in the village. The local people have made steps on the jungle pathways - to prevent motor scooters heading into the Coconut Grove.
From the Beach House guests can walk two or three minutes through the Coconut Grove to the nearest road. On reaching the road, there are bus stops - but no buses! However, along the road it is always easy to find an auto-rickshaw or taxi.

Staff at the Beach House can arrange for a local driver with car to collect guests from the road side any time, day or night - for a trip to anywhere!

Other Things to Note

NOTE: It is important to understand that Malabar Cove guest accommodation is part of a village. You will see the community going about their everyday life and will probably get invited into their houses which are very simple. All the water comes from wells. It is generally safe but best boiled to avoid upset tummies.

You are also likely to see construction workers, carpenters, the electrician etc.
As well as taking care of their families, the ladies of the village double as labourers. They carry building materials on their heads - from the roadside, along the jungle paths to where the work is taking place. They also collect sand from the beach - for mixing cement.
Work can only be carried out when it is not monsoon - the time when guests are usually at Malabar Cove. Guests usually find this fascinating, especially when the local electrician stands in a puddle of water to fix the electric! He is also the plumber.

North Kerala is still getting used to foreign guests. Therefore it is polite to comply with local attitude to modesty. Sun bathing on the beaches in skimpy swim wear is not advised.
We have the roof terraces for sunning.
