This lovely chalet is located in Cosme Velho, a traditional neighborhood located in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, at the bottom of the Corcovado Mountain.
- room with a comfy double bed, side tables, shelves, hanger, table and chair;
- small kitchen with cooking facilities, cooker and fridge;
- toilet with shower;
- gorgeous veranda with table and chairs;
- wi-fi, air conditioning and ceiling fan.
All in a quiet atmosphere, with complete privacy and large windows to a lovely view and private patio, perfect for long lazy breakfasts.
You will not find a place like this in Rio. You'll be surrounded by an Atlantic Forest Garden in the center of the city. You may even get to see monkeys and toucans!
The flat sits in the garden of a house but it has complete privacy including a private entrance. There are 4 flats in total plus the main house and there is always someone around to help guests with anything they need in this quiet, safe, homely atmosphere.
And if action is what you want it is minutes away. It is only 20 minutes away from Rio's Historic Center, Lapa, Santa Tereza and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema.
There are many transport links around - bus stops are only 2 minutes away, you can easily get a cab or if you prefer the nearest tube station is Largo do Machado.
Please note that there are two dogs in the main house. They are really nice and friendly and you will see them playing around.

The place and the hospitality was perfect! We spent 4 nights and it felt that we had long vacation. The chalet is located in the middle of a tropical garden of a beautiful house. It’s very quiet and perfect if you want to get away from the city. Consuelo had left some fresh fruit, coffee, water… which was very nice.
The bus station was one street away with many buses. The communication with Consuelo was very easy and she was always available for answer to our concerns.
I highly recommend the place and we hope to come back.
We spent a lovely 10 days in this beautiful jungle cottage! Consuelo was wonderful, quick to respond, easy to work with and very helpful, going out of her way to give us detailed answers to our questions about Rio. The location is perfect if you are looking to stay in a local neighborhood and want to explore both the city center and the beaches of Rio. After a quick intro to the area by Paula and her daughter we successfully traveled by public transportation for most of our stay, using taxis when we wanted the convenience. The cottage is right up the road from a major bus stop, a 20 min walk or short bus to the Subway and a few blocks from Corcovado (which made it incredibly easy to catch a bus/cab to and from even though we only speak a meniscal amount of Portuguese!). There are grocery stores and restaurants within a 5-10 min walk and the kitchen was adequate for cooking simple meals on the stovetop. The only downside was that there were often dogs barking at night, which might be troublesome if you are a light sleeper. We are so thankful to have found this fabulous place!
The chalet was a fantastic base for us for our first ever stay in Rio. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe but it is very quick to get to all of the main attractions and places of interest in the city, particularly Christ the Redeemer: the train station is only 5 minutes walk.
We enjoyed making breakfast in the neat little kitchen, enjoying a beer on the patio amongst the tropical plants and calling the chalet home for a few days. The bed, the shower and so on were excellent.
Perhaps the best thing of all is Consuelo. She gave me a very warm welcome and although we never needed anything, she made it clear she was only a phone-call away. It was obvious she genuinely cared about our comfort and enjoyment; her perfect English is another bonus.
I heartily recommend this chalet or the other one if you are alone or a couple and looking for a quiet and safe base close to the centre of Rio that you can comfortably cook and live in for a short or a long stay.
We had a lovely time at the chalé. It is quiet, safe and still pretty close to a lot of sights in Rio. We would stay there again. Consuelo is a great host and very quick in responding to our emails. Also Sandra the housekeeper was very nice. So were our favourit dogs Bella and Preta - if they've let us we would have taken them with us :)
Thank you very much for everything ! Muito obrigada :)

Adoramos a nossa estadia no chalé. A três minutos a pé nós podemos pegar ônibus pra visitar qualquer lugar. Estamos a uns 12 minutos de taxi da Lapa. Não é perigoso. Voltamos várias vezes de madrugada e foi super (website hidden) subida de cosme velho podemos ver o cristo redentor ilumindo... é lindo!
I really liked it at the Chalet. It's a wonderful green and peaceful place. But you can be in the middle of where things are happening within a few minutes. You have everything you need here, even wifi ;-). It also feels safe here. Come visit.
Staying at the chalet was a treat as was getting to know Miguel and Paula. the chalet is tucked away in their beautiful compound about twenty meters from the main house. It feels as if you have left the city momentarily, surrounded by vegetation in a house nested under a large mango tree. They have two very energetic and friendly german sheperds, Bella and Preta.
The neighborhood of Cosme Velho is a bit out of the way from downtown (twenty minutes or southern parts of the city (Ipanema/Leblon -- thirty or more depending on traffic), but there are many buses about a three to five minute walk from their house that connect to all the main areas of Rio. And the nearest train station is about five to ten minutes by bus.
Also sure to check out Miguel's awesome new studio/gallery space in Lapa when it opens in January.
un abrazo Miguel y Paula and thanks Consuelo for setting everything up!
I had the most wonderful time in Rio, the chalet is amazing, you can see little monkeys in the tress around and yet it is really central and easy to get around town. Very comfortable, light, clean and private. Small kitchen with all you can possibly need. We had breakfast in the table outside, under the trees and listening to birds. The bathroom is particularly great, with a see through ceiling that makes you feel as if you were outdoors. Paula and her husband Miguel were fantastic and helpful hosts, and the place is also very safe. Thank you! Would definitely recommend it and stay over again and again.
