If you enjoy a combination of indoor/outdoor living, Mexico art/style, then you will really like this place. It's a very unique, fun, and affordable place to stay while enjoying San Diego.
The kitchen area is outdoors (designed as an open air cantina) and includes a BBQ with burner, toaster oven, microwave, mini fridge, french press, hot and cold filtered water, and all the necessary dishes and utensils. There is also wifi available throughout the property.
This area of San Diego is divided up into various neighborhoods which include, Hillcrest, Normal Heights, Kensington, Downtown, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach, Mission Valley. All are about 10-15 minute drive from the house.
The room is located in the back of the property, which is adjacent to the alley. The houses and units are close to one another in this area of San Diego, so urban sounds are common, but nights are generally quite for the city. You will find and enjoy that the backyard area is a little oasis in an urban area. There is a gas station on the corner, 2 taco shops, 1 clothing/shoe store, Subway, Pizza Hut, a donut shop, and liquor stores less than a block from the house. A bit further (5-10 min walk) there are gourmet/upscale restaurants and wine/craft beer bars. There is also a nearby pub (Soda Bar) that (email hidden) band every night and is within walking distance.
The bus stop is also on the corner and is a main hub to get all over San Diego. Cabs can range from $10 to get around the area and up to $25-35 to go to the airport. There are also electric Car2Go at the nearby gas stations which are a fun, affordable, and green way to get around San Diego.
Look forward to having you stay!

I stayed in Bungalow for 3 weeks. It's an awesome little space. Although it's a small room, it is so intelligently designed to fit many of your personal belongings. I think the photos of the room make it look smaller than it actually is/feels once you're in there. Anyway, you don't feel cramped. It's super cozy and the bed is heavenly. Love the flat screen smart TV. Apart from the room, the rest of the living area is also intelligently designed. I love the kitchen cantina, made myself many delicious meals there, as it is fully equipped. It's a beautiful, colorful, chilled out space that makes you happy as soon as you enter. Rachel is just great too. She's kind, respectful of your space, and always just a text or phone call away if you need her. Stay here, you won't regret it!
Thank you Rachael, for the clean, cozy, and hip nest. The space is even nicer than the photos portray, and the neighbourhood is serviced frequently by transit buses to and fro downtown. Rachael ensured I was settled comfortably upon my arrival (even though I was a day late), and made me feel welcome to knock on the main house door if I had any questions or concerns. I didn't!
I picked this place mostly because of location, (my brother, who I was visiting, lives a 10 minute walk away, near Kensington/Normal Heights) but also because I was looking for an off-the-beaten-path, non-hotel experience for my time in San Diego. The detached bungalow definitely met my expectations all the way!
Some particulars--the bed is very spacious and comfy. You could definitely fit two. You have access to storage in two fridges during your stay. The room has a small bedside table as well as a collapsible wall table, which I used to organize my travel stuff (about a weeks worth).
The cantina and outside shower were definitely a plus, but I believe there's an indoor shower in the bathroom that's for use of the guests as well if you don't feel comfortable with the open ceiling. The other folks staying in the two rooms in the cantina were both pleasant and also helped show me around when I flew in.
The instructions for check-in left by Rachael were excellent and I got in without a hitch. You can also tell her particular attention for the property and how much thought when into making it a cool, relaxing space.
The area itself is very bikeable, if you can manage to take non-main streets to your destination. There are pedestrian bridges around too if you're into walking and need to cross the freeway. The area has lots of great taco shops, a few awesome bars, and parks all within walking distance. I highly recommend visiting this spot!
Rachael was a great host who was very attentive to any needs I might have. It really felt like I rented a home, not just a room. If I ever make it back to San Diego, I'll be sure to check with Rachael for a room. :)
Our stay was quite enjoyable. The Cantina accomodations were as described. We had plenty of storage space in the Bungalow and absolutely loved the outdoor shower! The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and a french press for coffee.
We enjoyed chatting with Rachael and the other guests. The biggest and best surprise was how well located this property is. The restaurants in the Hillcrest, Kensington and North Park neighborhoods are close enough to bike to. We actually biked to Ocean Beach for breakfast one morning.
We definitely will stay there again or try to....I think this is a popular place.
Rachael 's place is awesome! Super cute, lots of character and cool design! I got some of the best sleep in years in her bungalow, the cantina is fully stocked and clean! The bathroom and shower are super clean and cool! There is nothing like her outdoor shower, it is a must try! Rachael and David are great hosts, very friendly and personable! It was an overall amazing experience that I most definately recommend! Can't wait to stay again! Thanks so much Rachael!!!
A true oasis! The neighborhood is safe and clean, and only a few blocks from a main strip with lots of shops, and restaurants. Freeway literally around the corner; lots of easy public transport too.
It's obvious that Rachel has put a lot of effort into making her property as comfortable as possible for her guests, which is truly appreciated. We soooooo enjoyed coming home after a long day sight seeing and being able to lay down in peace and quiet to relax and watch a comedy on Netflix. Highly recommended!

I am an archaeologist and work for an environmental consulting firm. Through some very creative design the house is in the middle of an urban environment but looks and feels like a mini vacation resort in Mexico. I look forward to having you stay!
