Private transport is necessary.
We try to maintain 'Sancta Maria' to a high standard and hope that our guests leave the house in as good a condition as they find it.
Aileen and Paul were so helpful and generous. The house was perfect for what we were looking for with all the necessities and that little bit extra. The view from the garden is spectacular and its a two minute walk away from the pier.
We spent three weeks in this lovely cottage while we were doing our Assistant Teachership at primary school in Union Hall. It's a good place to stay to discovere the south coast. Aileen and Paul are just gorgeous and we really enjoyed our stay. The cottage has everything you need. It's a good place to relax. Thank you for all your help and all the good advices. It was a pleasure to meet you.
The cottage was as described; cosy and quiet. We had a peaceful mini break in lovely Union Hall. Aileen had the fire set, milk in the fridge and chocolate on the pillows. ! We would love to return and explore beautiful West Cork further.
Aileen and Paul were very kind, accommodating and thoughtful hosts. They made sure I had everything that I needed, from wood for the fire to a lovely bottle of wine! The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked with a nicely equipped little kitchen. The location was ideal, just 5 minutes' walk from the village of Union Hall and a few steps from the fishing harbor where you can watch the boats come in with the daily catch! I would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone staying near Union Hall.
We just spent 6 lovely relaxing days at Aileen's cottage in the beautiful village of Union Hall. Our host made us feel very welcome and the cottage itself is quaint, warm and has everything you need for a relaxing get away. Union Hall has many lovely pubs that double as eateries. our favourite being The Boatsman's Inn where there was live entertainment over the New Year holidays and the locals were very welcoming. The scenery in this area of Cork is breathtaking and there are some great drives and walks to be had regardless of the weather. After a days sight seeing there was nothing nicer than sitting by a stove fire with a glass of local whiskey reading a good book and listening to the sea. We will definitely be back to make more happy memories!
We enjoyed every minute of our six day stay at Sancta Maria.
Aileen sent us a helpful information pack before we arrived with details of the cottage and surrounding area.
It was a pleasure and surprise to be greeted by fresh provisions and even a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge!
Aileen also presented us with a fascinating book full of information about Union Hall and the beautiful paintings of views from the cottage that had been especially commissioned.
We were able to see some of the artists’ work at the Coffee Shop in the village - a place that we highly recommend for fresh baking.
Despite a couple of wet days we explored the local walks and managed to dry our clothes afterwards.
The church at Castletownshend was definitely worth a visit
On our first evening we had a delicious fish pie at Dinty’s and our subsequent visits were to Casey’s Bar where we were made to feel at home.
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming that it was a wrench to leave the place and we will be looking for opportunities to return.
