My neighborhood is part of Vancouver called Uptown Village and just one mile from the river. This area is very vital with new restaurants and brew pubs popping up like mushrooms. Vancouver is being called "Vansterdam" with the liberal/freedom-minded laws, yet, it is still quaint and away from the intensity of Portland, just a few miles away. There are many galleries and venues with live music. Ester shores park has summer outdoor movies, wine and beer festivals, music and every weekend a farmer's market.
There is a metro-system to get you to Portland city center. A main line runs just a few blocks from the house.
No smoking or extreme partying. This is a fairly quite home...meant for a home base while visiting our beautiful area.
This bedroom has a double size mattress with a memory foam topper...very comfortable.
Sabra made us feel welcome when she called to confirm our visit. I initially contacted her to let her know we may possibly cancel. Sabra was as helpful as can be, even offering to refund our money herself if we didn't make the trip. Lucky for us, we decided to visit Portland and kept the reservation.
The house is exactly as described with a nice backyard deck. Has a homey feel and made ourselves at home. Walking distance to Main St with cool breakfast spots like Dulins and Mint Tea and a few vintage shops.
The trick is to take Uber to the Delta MAX Station and then take the train to Portland. Get the all day pass.
We had a lovely stay. Sabra was a great host, accommodating our shifting arrival time. She met us at the house to welcome us and to walk us through.
The house was comfortable and is located close to town and the freeway making it easy to get around.
There is also a beautiful yard and garden, along with a raised deck which was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine. We would definitely stay again.
About the Host, Sabra
I am 66, mellow, cheerful and thrilled to be able to travel. I am a social worker in private practice in Portland, Oregon and live in Vancouver, Washington on the other side of the great Columbia river just 10 miles from Portland's city center.
I've just opened my home to fellow travelers and look forward to making new friends and connections.
Airbnb has enabled me to stay with folks in Spain, Ireland and other parts of the USA. Italy is my destination next year. What a great way to really get to know a place but through the people that live there.
