The Space

Near but not in Waikiki Cottage on the coast.
"live local"
Private Well Established Mature Neighborhood with a six foot fence completely surrounding the property and Security Patrolled by our Neighborhood Watch 24/7 and HPD.
Secure key-less locking front door-gate and six foot fence completely surrounding the 86 year old houses and wild natural gardens.
Beautiful tranquil wild butterfly garden property with three Spaces on it.
Nice front garden area with a fountain, natural fish pond, fish and lily pads.
Many species of birds, butterfly , lizard and gecko, flower and fauna and a big sofa to lounge under the umbrella. Be still and they will come to be curious about you.
Designed around those who need a quiet calming retreat. Great big bedroom loft with a view, great for meditation and yoga in an old quaint 86 year old beach cottage. Lavish furnishings with a Queen sized and extra long long Temper-pedic bed.
Wonderful cool cross breezes that are the trade winds of Hawaii. Sometimes they turn into big gusts.
Downstairs a large upgraded kitchen with Regular Oven and Convection Oven and a Microwave Oven. Full fridge and nice big granite island table.
The bathroom also has new surfaces. Nice big
bathtub and a rain shower head all overlooking the skyline of Waikiki. Big and Airy. Window is high enough, tinted and tempered, with large trees and foliage provided for complete privacy. Bathroom window shades are on shelf provided for those who like the light diffused or don't want to look at the garden or skyline while showering.

Guest Access

Please respect the Check in 3 pm and Check out 11 am times as we have to clean and maintain the space between guests.

Interaction with Guests

I interact with Guests as little or as much as they like. I can gauge when guests need help.

The Neighborhood

Well established older neighborhood bordering on Kapiolani Beach Park. Highly patrolled by Honolulu police

Getting around

Best Bus service in the nation. Bus Stop on every corner.
Walk everywhere.
Bikes for rent up the road
Surf lessons and boards

Other Things to Note

This "not Waikiki" neighborhood has agreed:
No lights on front house porch because draws unwanted attention like a hotel lobby or a Broadway stage.
No other neighbor has porch light on and we want to fit in. House rules on website state no front porch illumination. We are in a contest for going green and want to practice conserving electricity and resources so I can win.
Security is breached when the public can see into the whole house from the street through the open mesh door and open windows with a porch light illuminating the whole area.
We don"t want a break in! PLEASE take care and be aware.
We don't want the neighbors to complain and make trouble about the light beaming into
their window and keeping them awake all night. We have to be a good neighbor.
Look around and please respect and follow the habits of the locals and the neighborhood fit in be aware.
Close windows and lock doors if you go out!
Don't talk outside it echos loud and we don't want to disturb neighbors.
Do not yell ever. Don't slam doors. Bird Nest. Please knock on wood if you come to the door and it is closed. Do not yell out someones name, knock. Or telephone or text them please! (phone number hidden)
People on holiday and are meditating and sleeping all hours shhhhhh!

  • We had a great time. The cottage is a great place for families. I stayed for two weeks with my husband, 15 year old and 11 old year old and my father. It looks in person the way it does in the pictures- the kitchen is very easy to use and well- stocked to cook and eat in. The bed is incredibly comfortable and there are so many other options for sleeping arrangements for my kids and my dad it was easy for them to find something. Parking was always easy and plentiful. Waikiki beach is about a ten minute walk and the heart of Waikiki is a 20 min walk.
I do see the point about the bathroom, but there are mats in place that keep the line of sight high enough for my taste, but I am pretty short, so maybe I would feel differently if I were taller? Personally I like that there is a big window since there is a great cross breeze when the door is open and it doesn't get too muggy when the door is closed when you take a shower. The bath is enormous and the hand held shower hose is very long, so if you get in the tub with a baby you can wash them.

  • Suzie's house is situated in a super quiet and safe neighborhood near the Honolulu Zoo and it is very close to the beach, diamond head and the craziness in Waikiki beach. The house is very lovely and nicely decorated which makes you feel like home. If you are staying for more than a couple of days I highly recommend you to stay with Suzie and enjoy the beautiful back yard - you would not want to be sucked in a hotel room for more than 3 days... I very much enjoyed staying with Suzie and will definitely stay with her again if I come back. Mahalo Suzie! :)

  • Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The place is cozy and is in a good location for commute. Suzie is a good host and responds to our request in time. However, we had some communication problems with her, which causes some uncomfortableness between us. The queen bed in the loft was comfy. However, the futon on the first floor barely makes a bed. There was an extra pillow mattress in the loft which can accommodate as an extra sleeping place.

  • I loved the Cottage by the zoo. The house was clean and well decorated. The location was perfect. I loved the neighborhood as it was in walking distance from everywhere I wanted to go while in that area. The bed was comfortable. It was great to have a house to hang out in instead of a hotel room and I'll definitely book from Suzie again. She was very kind and graciously shared her back yard goodies with us for a salad for dinner!

  • Tranquil, awesome, super convenient! I stayed at Suzie's place for a week while I was in Honolulu for work. It was much larger than I expected; a very cute cottage with a lovely yard in a great neighborhood. Literally half a block walk from some of the best brunch places in Honolulu, and a short walk through Kapiolani Park to the beach. Plenty of street parking, and everything was very quiet. Very nicely decorated/furnished house, with a lovely kitchen which I didn't end up using because there are so many great restaurants in walking distance! Amazing view of Diamondhead from the front porch. Based on my stay at Suzie's, I decided that this is the neighborhood I want to live in if I ever move to Honolulu. Thanks Suzie!

  • We stayed here for our Spring Break and everything in our nine days was just PERFECT. Suzie was quick to respond to texts when needed. We LOVED that there was no TV. We could play our own music through the soundsystem she provides.

Everything about the place just whispers peace and tranquility. I stayed downtown last time, but never again. It was a ten minute walk to downtown. There is amazing food and a killer fresh organic juice bar a block away... The Kapiolani Farmers Market is 4 blocks away and Saturday is really the day to go.

Suzie was very attentive to our needs and replaced the towels without even asking. The shared backyard was so peaceful. This place is truly worth staying at. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are already talking about our next trip back there.... We havent even been home 24 hours yet either.

We miss you Suzie. Mahalo and Namaste.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Suzie's cottage, and even though she was out of town, we had everything we needed. It was an ideal location for business and vacationing.
We plan to stay here again!

  • We loved our stay at Suzie's Quite Cottage!
The cottage itself was spotless and very well appointed, with a great kitchen and bathroom in particular. The whole place was much larger than it looked in the photos, with plenty of space for two of us. Suzie was a great host, always contactable by e-mail and quick to reply.
The neighbourhood was really quiet which was perfect for relaxing in, but there are also loads of places to eat just a short walk away, and Waikiki itself was only about 15 minutes walk away.
The cottage was in a great location both for the conference I was attending (I had a lovely 40 minute walk to the conference centre every day) and as a base for sightseeing.
Thanks to Suzie for providing such a great place to stay!

  • This is a super cute place to stay. It was so nice having an entire cozy house all to ourselves. The kitchen is every foodies dream!! The bathroom is pretty glorious too.
Everything was clean & neat and the instructions were very clear. We weren't quite used to the humidity and there is no a/c, so it was nice that there some fans for our use.
A few things we weren't a fan of - our first night, it seemed someone was staying in a part of the house that was sectioned off to us and I'm not sure what that was about. They were quiet, but we were under the impression that the house was entirely ours for the whole stay. Also - we ended up having to delay our trip by a day and I was in close contact with Suzie to let her know. I asked if we could check in at 1pm the day of our arrival even though check in is normally 3pm as technically the house was ours anyway since we had booked and paid for the previous whole day. When we arrived, she seemed very confused that we were early and was flustered with arrangements in general. She is so very nice & sweet, but I felt there could be more organization. And although there was fair warning in previous comments - I would like to mention that we were not a fan of not having blinds in the bathroom. I showered so early in the morning that it was still dark out so it would be possible to see in. There is a double shower curtain, but it would really be best if curtains were put up.
All in all, we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend it! Suzie is very nice & helpful and her house is very nice and the whole area is lovely and quiet. 15 min walk to the ocean and cute shops. Lots of restaurants and about a 30 min walk to Diamond Head. Perfect location!!! =)

    Response from Suzie:

day. When we arrived, she seemed very confused. You did not communicate well You didnt have to get so personal with me. Has nothing to do with the beautiful house i created.
I just recieved some bad news about my mummy. I was struggling with the airline to get out. You just caught me at that moment. I am not a robot but managed not to bother your holiday. God i am only human. Has any other host had this experience. The humidity prevents drapes on the bathroom window. Bathroom would not dry and the mildew grows. This is Hawaii. We do things differently.

  • Our first experience with Airbnb and we have vowed to make that our first option for future travels! Suzie's accommodation was quality throughout from the huge granite dining table in the main room to the Brookstone pillows in the upstairs bedroom. We loved the "rain faucet shower" with Neutrogena soap/shampoo pumps and the super comfy couches for lounging. Her location can't be beat. During our two week stay we had no need for a car. The "action" of Waikiki was within easy walking distance, and bus transportation to Honolulu / China town and all further destinations was a block away. As for our hostess......we have met no gentler spirit. Her thoughtfulness in preparing for our stay was evident. Her continuous consideration for our privacy and comfort was obvious. Five stars does not seem high enough to express our recommendation of this property.
