  • Hello friends,
Mejai is a fantastic host- he is kind and generous and he cares about his guests. And his place is a great retreat for the weary traveler! The kitchen/living room, which is the main communal area is also very cozy and there is a great deck to sit out on when the sun is out. Mejai's place is a great place to stay if you are looking to get some work done or just need your space. But, I also enjoyed visiting with the other guests, everyone was very interesting and friendly. Despite the warnings that the South Side is dangerous, even as a single white female I didn't have any problems walking back and forth from the train by myself, even late at night sometimes. In fact I really enjoyed Mejai's neighborhood, and being from Idaho I have never experienced anything quite like it! As far as cultural highlights I recommend visiting Mama Lou's (soul food resteraunt), Ace Hardware (used to be the famous Oasis Jazz Club) and the beauty store across from Ace on the corner. All three of these places are located on 35th within about 4 blocks of Prairie. Again, I had a great time- thank you Mejai for being such a great host! Just a heads up, there is no microwave but there is a toaster oven and very efficient gas stove. But everything else about the place was fantastic so I didn't mind these things too much.

  • i met another guests in his house and it was really fun. another guests were really kind.

i was satisfied with my room bc it was cheap. but i met a guy when i was on my way to his house and he told me this area was dangerous at night. so i was afraid whenever i came back to his house at night. but nothing happened.

i experienced one problem. the host didnt want to contact by phone. he wanted to contact by airbnb message. and i called him over and over but he didnt receive my calls when i arrived at his house at first. so i couldnt go into his house and i went to starbucks near his house. i noticed that he sent me a message by airbnb about his door number at starbucks.

i was really embarrassed at that time bc my phone almost died but he didnt receive my calls and i couldnt go into his house.

plz dont forget confirming airbnb message first before contacting him.

    Response from Mejai Kai:

This guest would have been better served by a hotel who could meet her special request. She had was not communicating through airbnb and was rude in her text. I would not have her back.

  • I had such a positive experience last year that I stayed again this year when back in town for a conference. Mejai was very accommodating with my schedule again after contacting him and explaining my situation. Would definitely stay again!

  • Mejai is inarguably the best host and find in Chicago. The house, rooms, and atmosphere provide a sense of comfort and belonging impossible to find in any hotel or bed and breakfast. He is prompt, fair, and open and willing to share all parts of his life and self with his guests. An instant friend if you are open to that experience, and highly respectful of personal space if you just want to be left alone. Not only does Mejai provide the most affordable option in town, he also provides a sense of community that is difficult to find anywhere else. I can't recommend him highly enough.

  • Mejai is a great guy and host, and his home is a perfect spot for anyone coming to Chicago for stay. I stayed for a total of 9 nights and by the end it almost felt like my own home. The place is very comfortable and has good bathrooms and a nice kitchen. It's also easy access to the train station to get downtown in 20 minutes. I would definitely recommend Mejai and his place for anyone visiting the Chicago area.

  • This was my 2nd time staying at Mejai's place and, again, it did not disappoint! Mejai is a great host and was accommodating during all portions of my stay. I was even able to extend my stay with no trouble whatsoever. Mejai is very respectful of the space and provided everything I need to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a good place to stop in and out of, being a traveler on the go. Thanks again, Mejai!
