This little gem is a work in progress; an unfolding canvas of art and nature tucked into every possible nook and cranny and the perfect basecamp while you enjoy the sites and scenery of lovely Mancos.
The downstairs room is available for $85 a night (2 NIGHT MINUMUM) and can accommodate up to 2 people. It comes with its own private bathroom.
What can I say? The view is spectacular. The La Plata Mountains will take your breath away from the back deck and the sunsets are epic.
The bedroom is quiet, private and creatively decorated with antiques, art and rich colors. Enjoy a queen sized mattress and clean, comfortable bedding and towels. Attached is a private bathroom with access to the garage where you are welcome to safely store any gear or equipment.
The upper level of the house gives you access to the well-stocked kitchen where you are welcome to use the refrigerator and prepare any meals you wish...in fact, I encourage it! Locally grown organic produce abounds in this little town and you can pick some up at the Farmer's Market every Tuesday night or at Zuma's Natural Food Store.
The dining room and living room are combined in an open great room that is perfect for watching DVDs or enjoying a glass of wine over dinner. Sorry...no cable TV. But there is wireless internet!
The house sits on 10 acres, which you are welcome to explore, and is connected to 600 acres of pinyon/juniper laden BLM. A mile away is access to the Chicken Creek trailhead, Jackson Reservoir State Park and an endless supply of trails within San Juan National Forest and the La Plata mountains. Mesa Verde National Park is in view and a 20 minute drive away, Phil's World has excellent mountain biking, Echo Canyon is an alpine wonderland of hiking, Durango is a 40 minute drive and Mancos, Dolores and Cortez all boast a wealth of great restaurants, art galleries, local beer, live music and various cultural events. Any season, this region of Colorado is ripe with options: jeep tours, river rafting, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rides on the Narrow Gauge Railroad from Durango to Silverton, hotsprings and festivals.
I am happy as can be to offer my "Best Of" suggestions around the area and I have maps and books to loan as well.
One well-behaved, potty-trained dog (2 are negotiable) that comes equipped with own bed and/or kennel are welcome. No dogs on the bed please, and since I don't charge a pet deposit, I just ask that if your dog makes a mess, please clean it up. If your dog destroys something, please replace it.
Jaime and her Hilltop Homestead were amazing! Everything was exactly as advertised. Jaime did everything she could to make our stay comfortable and exciting. She was also very welcoming to our little 80 lb puppy :) Anyone reading this should not hesitate to give Jaime a visit. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
Jaime's place is lovely, quiet and clean. Jaime provides clear expectations and great information regarding restaurants, shopping and activities in the area. We completely enjoyed our stay with Jaime in Mancos!
I wish our stay was longer! Jaime was a fantastic host who made us feel comfortable and shared more than just her home, she shared her passion for the area which made the short stay even more impressive. It was a great, clean, and inviting space with fantastic views, everything was lovely! I would highly recommend staying here, and would definitely come back.
What a great place to stay and relax if you are visiting the 4-corners area and Mesa Verde National Park. The accommodations are clean and comfortable and the views from the deck are out of this world. Your hostess, Jaime, is wonderful and makes you feel right at home.
Fabulous experience in every way! Comfortable, clean, convenient to all. Jaime was the sweetest hostess, sharing her lovely home and energy. Spectacular view from her deck towards the mountains, priceless. Hope we can return again.
Jaime is not just a wonderful host, she is a true Renaissance person. One of the most surprising things about my stay in her beautiful, relaxing and yes, magical home was simply being around the energy and peaceful presence of this person who brings life, brilliance and joy to everything she does. A few reflections: incredible night sky, wide views, absolute serenity, watching my dog be happy, rural scenes, art, organic farming, sanctuary. If you've forgotten about what true soul is, a few days at Jaime's place will remind you.
I had to come to Durango for a business trip and had never been there before. I thought it would be nice to stay outside of town in a more rural area and not in a chain hotel.
Jaime was really informative about local places to eat and things to do. I went to a few of the places she recommended, as well as some other nearby towns, all of which I was impressed with.
Her house was comfortable, decorated nicely and in a beautiful area, incredible scenery.
The room is private downstairs so you can come and go as you please, but Jaime also invites you to come upstairs if you want. Very relaxed environment. I enjoyed my experience!
The location was great and the mood easy and laid-back; the perfect place to kick back and enjoy our time. The room and other facilities were new and very clean and comfortable, and we could choose to use the rest of the house at will. Breakfast is not provided but Jaime was able to direct us to the best places in town, both for breakfast and other meals. She also welcomed us to use the kitchen to make our own.
Jaime has a nice rural property just out of Mancos. Our allocated area was self contained and adequate with its own bathroom . We had a pleasant 2 night stay. Being only about 2 miles from Mancos we were able to commute easily to the local restaurants by car. We found Jaime's place a convenient base from which to explore Arches NP and Canyonlands.
Jamie has a beautiful and comfy home with gorgeous views of the valley and mountain range. She is a wonderful host, also a very worldly women, with lots of great ideas about what to do in the area. If you don't stay here, you're missing an experience!
