1923 Silent Film Era Bungalow

Hello... Nice people welcome!

Set on a hillside next door to a Buddhist temple, this sunny, free-standing, 1923 one-bedroom bungalow is one of several that were originally built for the nearby studios of the silent film era.

Just steps to Elysian Park's entrance {LA's oldest, greenest and 2nd largest park - great for running and hiking!}, this simple, but clean, comfortable and *affordable* 1 Bedroom sits in the eclectic Echo Park neighborhood - an area that has enjoyed a colorful Bohemian history and has been home to oil barons, film stars, social activists, musicians and artists, among them: Edward Doheny, Woody Guthrie, Jackson Pollock, Jerry Rubin, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Art Pepper, Mary Pickford, Charles Bukowski, Steve McQueen, and of course The LA Dodgers... to name a but a few.

Its current denizens are ethnically and socio-politically mixed, and over the last decade Echo Park has morphed from being a neighborhood populated by mom-and-pop shops and small restaurants serving simple Mexican and Central American fare, to one that now also supports one of the best places to go to enjoy a tastes of 'non-glitz' night-life, and which attracts a mix of artists, musicians and urban underground for late night music, dance and art events.

The Space

FUNKY CHIQUE: Though clean and comfortable, this classic older house definitely still retains it's 'Bohemian' roots, and is thus a little rough around the edges... i.e; tilts slightly to one side; small bathroom; no AC (there *are* fans in every room ;), etc. ...so if you like things absolutely pristine, this place may not be for you. But for those with a taste for the eclectic and who like to feel a part of this more rooted, thoughtful stretch of LA, where you can lounge in the evening with a locally made beer and gaze at fruit trees, neighborhood skunks and the LA skyline.... you will feel right at home :)

• Price includes use of all pots, pans, dishes, espresso machine, linens, towels, bedding, Hi-Speed Internet, etc., as well as one off-street parking space.

The house has;

One full size bed in the bedroom, that can sleep 2 people
One full size Aerobed that can be arranged in the living room to sleep 2 people
One sofa that can comfortably sleep one person, up to about 5'5" tall

Interaction with Guests

I will always try to meet with you at the house when you arrive, whenever possible, but please also keep in mind that next to renting my place out, I also work full-time, and also must travel a lot for my work. It is for this reasons that I am able to rent out my home in the first place.

In the event that I cannot meet with you, I will have my cleaner put keys in an outside key-bow for you, so that you will be able to let yourself into the house. I will then also try to call you within a couple of hours of your arrival, to be sure that you were able to get in and find everything alright.

I am also almost always available to receive a call, if you have any questions of problems.

Getting around

BY CAR: the house does include one reserved parking space, and is easily accessible to several freeways (101, 5, 2 and 110)

BY FOOT: (easier than you may think),the house is just steps from Sunset Blvd, where there are several buses that will connect you to greater Los Angeles, including nearby Silverlake, Chinatown, Downtown, Little Tokyo and Hollywood, as well as to Union Station, LAX and all other points west.

Other Things to Note

* PLEASE READ OVER DESCRIPTION, MAPS, AMENITIES, & HOUSE RULES... *PRIOR* to putting in a reservation request!

**********************************************************************
IS IT QUIET?

The bungalow is just up from Sunset Blvd, so whereas it's at a *perfect* location to explore this great neighborhood from...even by foot, this also means that it's not the quietest neighborhood in LA. So please do bare in mind that paired with the beautiful views of downtown LA...

• You may hear helicopters circling at times.
• You may hear sirens on Sunset Blvd
• Dodger Stadium visitors - driving around searching for free parking, and/or celebrating or cursing a game just seen.

YOUR PICTURE;

Please note that I *ONLY ACCEPT RESERVATIONS FROM GUESTS WITH A *CLEAR* PROFILE PICTURE *OF THEMSELVES*. This means *OF YOU*...not your baby, not your dog, not a sunset taken on your last holiday....you.

Please understand that I would like to see a picture of the person that may be renting my place. I also strongly encourage you to look over my profile and pictures as well. :)

PET ALLERGIES: Whereas there are no pets living here now, previous tenants did own a cat, and I've also had 1 or 2 guests staying here with a dog, *** That said, the house has all hard floors, so If you're allergies are not too severe and you think that it would be enough to prevent discomfort, for an extra fee of $35 I would be happy to remove all area rugs and cover the sofa with a clean pet-free cover, and remove all sofa all cushions, and as well have my cleaner double vacuum & mop, etc for you. If you think that this would work for you, or if you have other suggestions that may help, please be sure to let me know and I will be glad to do what I can.

  • Alicia was an excellent host. Made sure the place was clean before arrival and was easy to obtain key. Place was clean, good parking, and close to several area restaurants. Enjoyable neighborhood to walk around.

  • My wife and I had a great time in Alicia's Bungalow. Everything we needed and she was a very helpful and caring host. A great location, near good restaurants and bars. Cannot recommend enough. thanks Alicia!

  • The Bungalow was everything I expected for the money and had a really nice, serene vibe. Location is great, being close to action and great food, but peaceful and quiet at the same time. Alicia is a very friendly and accommodating. All round a very pleasant and down to earth experience that made the hustle and bustle of LA accessible, but not overwhelming. I recommend staying here.

  • Great place for my first stay in LA.

Quirky as advertised, but really cozy. Perfect location. Cool neighborhood.

Alicia was so nice! She waited for me even if I showed up rather late. She was so kind to park my car the first time - which is not obvious but easy once learned.

    I wish I can return soon :)

  • Great place for our visiting family guests to stay nearby. Everything was just as described and Alicia was nice and helpful getting us set up.

  • We loved it here. Quiet, Quirky and comfortable. Few great coffee places nearby, easy to get to everything, great area and we even got to see a Dodger game (only $5 per ticket!). A perfect end to our 3 months in America.

  • It was everything we wanted and needed and in a great location.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Alicia's little bungalow. We loved the location so much! It was very peaceful (for L.A.!) since it's so close to Elysian Park. The view on the downtown was amazing too. The little bungalow is very charming and well equipped, especially the kitchen.

Yes, the parking can be tricky, but once you know how to park your car, it's easy, especially if your car is small. There is also plenty of street parking for what we saw.

Alicia was an amazing host. She welcomed us with a bright smile and gave us so many great food recommendations. We felt at home and we truly enjoyed meeting her.

  • Alicia's house is an LA dream spot. It's not because her house was my local refuge while my apartment building was being fumigated or because she generously allowed me to bring my cats along -- it really is a perfect spot if you're looking for a very LA experience in a cool neighborhood with easy access to just about anywhere you'd want to go. The location is super close to downtown or the heart of Echo Park and Silverlake, and there's no shortage of fun stuff close by. The house is fully stocked with every convenience (espresso/coffee machines, toaster, oven/range, small fridge, even a tiny washing machine!), so you can decide if you want a fast or slow morning or evening. Even though the house is close to Sunset Blvd., it's very quiet. Parking is plentiful on-street or in the reserved spot. Alicia is super easy to work with and communicative. What's not to like?! Thank you so much Alicia! You made a wild week a lot more bearable.

  • Alicia is an amazing host! She is very helpful and so so sweet. I stayed long term in the Bungalow - almost a month. Overall the experience was great, but there were a few things that make a long term stay a bit difficult. For a short term stay its perfect. The bathroom is very small and a bit old. There is very little closet space. The heater is in the living room and if you're cold it takes a lot of time to heat up the bedroom. Other than those things the place is fantastic. I love Alicia's style, and its a very cozy place. The neighbors are all nice (didn't see them much) . The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook a meal. There is an adorable sitting area outside with a couch and chairs. It is half a block from an entrance to Elysian Park, Beautiful! I would recommend staying here to anyone and everyone!

About
About me / About you: ***************************** Me: I'm fairly creative and run my own business and I am health conscious. I work hard but also have a social life. I prefer a clean house but can be messy at times in my own room and around my desk area when life gets busy (though I do try to keep this contained). I am a generally cheerful person and enjoy celebrating this world's beautiful things, while remaining sedulous in the strive for melioration. I like to bike, run, read, work, laugh, cook, eat, question authority, talk to strangers on the bus, and see and hear live music. I am a clown, a romantic, a philosopher, and a maniac...maaaaniac on the dance floor (order changes according to situation). My origins lie in NYC but I've been growing up all over the place, with recently 20+ years in Europe and the U.K.***************************** I try to live as sustainably as is possible in the big city, and am an avid supporter of bike and public transport use, and do not own a car. YES...contrary to popular belief, this IS quite possible in LA! ***************************** I also volunteer at The LA Homeless Services Authority. ***************************** You: Are pleasant and easy to be around, tidy and have Eco habits or are open to a little adapting.*** Most importantly, you are a kind, considerate, and conscious individual.
