Interaction with Guests
We always like to greet our guests and give them the ins and outs of their space. If for some reason we can't be home the door is unlocked and you can make yourself at home until we get back. We love to have conversation and get to know our guests. We also respect peoples privacy and have no problem with that. We are very easy going and want your experience to be exactly what you came to Lake Placid for.
Our neighborhood is very safe and quiet. It is residential with lots of space and trees between homes. Many guests comment on the fact that they were surprised at how quiet it was. I am an avid gardener and have beautiful flower beds and boxes providing candy for the eyes.
We are 2 miles outside of the Olympic Village. To get around the area it is best to have a vehicle, but we have had guests who did not have one. Cabs are available and several places in town rent bicycles. Their is a bus that comes to the area and a train that comes to Westport. If you use the train, a shuttle will bring you to town.
Other Things to Note
The Dorm/Loft is a unique situation. The guest bath in the house is for use of guests in the dorm loft. As far as a toilet in the dorm/loft, I would best describe it as an OUTDOOR CAMPING TOILET. Best to be used for night time emergencies. House bathroom is always open and available 24/7.
We are happy to host people with dogs. While on the property the dog needs to be controlled. I have many flower and vegetable gardens beds that the dogs can't run through. We are happy to provide bags to pick up your dog droppings. Our very friendly Beagle is named Darwin. He loves to play with other dogs so and guest dog needs to be good with him.
Our check in and check out time is flexible depending on the arrival or departure of other guests.
Leslie and Charles were extremely responsive prior to our stay. They were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The Loft was very comfortable for us, even during the cold nights. There is a lot of space and it was a pleasure staying with them. Their home is also very cozy, extremely clean and comfortable.
Leslie and Charles made us feel very welcome. They were incredibly friendly and happy to talk with us and give us suggestions for restaurants, kayaking and hiking. They were certainly good hosts, and really cool people in general. Their dog Darwin was very friendly as well! The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, it wasn't in the downtown Lake Placid, but it was only a very short drive away. In fact it was kind of nice to be separated a bit from the hustle and bustle on a busy holiday weekend.
The loft was incredible! It was decorated in a very cool fashion and way bigger than the pictures make it seem. There is pretty much everything you need up there, but it's only a few short steps to go inside to use the restroom or use the stove. I could see that it could get chilly at night, but there are plenty of blankets and we were very warm.
In short Charles and Leslie helped us have an amazing weekend in Lake Placid, we've already decided to stay with them again next year!
We enjoyed our weekend at Leslies and Charles. The loft was rustic but super clean and well appointed. They were great hosts.
Leslie and Charles were so very nice and welcoming! My boyfriend and I went to visit Lake Placid, NY in order to relax and get in some outdoor activities, and that's exactly what we did. Though we left a couple days early (simply because of the rain), Leslie offered us a warm room in her house because she knew the temperatures were going to drop for the last two nights we had booked. We enjoyed watching dvds and movies in the den area of the loft, and really enjoyed sleeping with the window open on breezy nights. Leslie and Charles were so gracious in helping us find hikes, restaurants and other activities, and we would highly recommend the hippie loft to any AirBnb traveler!
Lots of room in the dorm, we were 3 but it can accommodate at least 8 people! Leslie is very welcoming and it was a perfect location for us to hike in the Lake Placid area!
Great getaway and a perfect location for where we needed to be. Loft was spotless, well appointed and roomy. I recommend anyone to stay here when you want to getaway and disconnect, already miss Darwin. Leslie and Charles were gracious, friendly and accommodating.
Leslie and Charles were wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed the accommodation! Our group had a very relaxing vacation and it was due in part to the great stay we had in the loft.
Charles took time out of his day to give us a rundown of different hikes and attractions available. He had several insider tips on activities and restaurants that we followed through on and were very happy with.
Their dog Darwin was fun to play with!
The loft had everything we needed - they provided clean towels, plenty of blankets, and there were lots of fun items that livened up the space. It felt very home-y and welcoming. You have to walk into the main house to access the bathroom, but we didn't mind. We would come again, given the chance!

I am an avid gardener, both flowers and organic vegetables. I grow most of my vegetables at the Community Garden and some at home. I love to cook and enjoy the flavors of my home grown veggies. I am an emerging artist in print making, studying and practicing at the local BluSeed art Workshop, North Country Community College and Mesa Art Center in Arizona. I have a creative soul and have enjoyed creating the dorm/loft living space. My husband, Charles, is a part time college professor and published writer. Sometimes you can catch him performing his poetry at one of the local venues. We love foraging in the woods for eatable wild mushrooms. Our new avocation is being host of our airbnb guests and sharing our love and knowledge in this beautiful part of the world.
