About This Listing
Beautiful, elegantly furnished and fully-equipped 2 bedroom, two bath guest house, with antiques and open beam ceiling, on a 1 acre gated estate, with koi pond, waterfall, fountain, chlorine-free pool and hot tub, and 180 degree ocean-view lanai. Fully furnished and equipped guest house is over 1000 square feet with a 280 square foot (website hidden), Internet access, electricity, water and trash pick-up included. Laundry facility available on the property for an additional charge. The estate is located at a 1000 foot elevation, which is perfect weather. No air conditioning needed. The property is 10 minutes from downtown Kona, 5 minutes from the airport, and near beaches, restaurants and 3 minutes from Costco. NO SMOKERS; small housebroken pets considered. Organic home cooked meals available at an extra charge. Holistic physician and chiropractor available, on site, for extra charge. Call Karen at (phone number hidden). There are 14% Hawaii taxes. We charge a $150 cleaning fee ($175 if there are 3 or more people), and there is a $250 refundable security deposit. Our home is located on the corner of a two lane road which is a 3 minute drive to Costco and 1/4 mile from the upper Highway, Mama La Hoa Highway.
The couch is very comfortable and can also sleep an additional person. We also have inflatable queen size Aerobed bed for extra sleeping, if desired. So technically, the house could sleep up to 7 or 8. No smoking ANYWHERE on premises. There is a 14% Hawaii state tax. There is a closet full of games, a guitar, and you can swim in the pool and use the hot tub until 11 pm. We also have plenty of beach towels for your use. The main house, which is on the same property, has three small non shedding, friendly dogs and an Amazon parrot...so they are on the grounds at various points in the day, however there are no pets in the guest house. We also have a holistic health counselor, chiropractor, far infrared sauna and massage on premises, for additional charges. The house is off a two lane road, which is only 3 minute drive to Costco and a 1/4 mile to Mama La Hoa Highway, so there is a little traffic noise during certain times of the day.
Staying at Turtle House was a great experience. Karen and Tim are great hosts. Karen is very responsive via phone or e-mail. The house was ready when promised and was immaculate. The grounds are very well maintained and the views of the Kailu-Kona sunsets off the lania (and elsewhere on the property) were spectacular. The house has many games to play at night, books to read, as well as beach towels, water toys and boogie boards to take to the beach. No need to bring those items with you on your trip. There are two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two twin beds. The couch also serves as a very comfortable "bed" and there is an aerobed to use if more beds are needed. Access to the internet is provided and has great speeds for logging into work if you're crazy enough to do that on vacation which I was a couple of times for brief periods.
Karen accommodated us and got the house ready when one family was leaving and we were arriving the same day. In a matter of hours the house was cleaned and set up perfectly. She also accommodated our request to leave our things on property the day we were leaving so we didn't have to have all our luggage with us the whole day as our flight was leaving late in the evening. That was quite a benefit as we had 6 people and lots of luggage for one minivan. It made our last day enjoyable.
We were able to interact with Karen and Tim on most days. We found them to be very pleasant and fun to get to know. We feel as though we have some friends on Island now. We would definitely want to stay here again on future return visits to their beautiful Island.
Maholo Karen and Tim.
The hosts were really warm and all of us enjoyed talking to them. My husband even played Guitar with the hosts and we talked about so many things under the sun.
They walked us through the property and it was really good experience staying with them.
From the post, it was not very clear that the swimming pool is right in front of the main house on the property, so not for people who want privacy.
Turtle House was very convenient to the Kona International Airport and Kailua- Kona. It was very well appointed and at an elevation that had good trade winds.
Karen and Tim were gracious hosts who were there if we had questions but otherwise respected our privacy.
The only downside to the property is its close proximity to a very loud street. If noise isn't a bother for you, this would a lovely home that is top of the line.
From Karen's first email to our fond Alohas at the end of a wonderful stay, Karen and Tim made us feel like part of the family. The accommodations are spacious, beautifully decorated, and extremely comfortable. Their home is
located on a cool hillside convenient to Kona and its many attractions. In addition to an infinity pool and hot tub, there's a panoramic view of the ocean from the recliner on the lanai. To add to the enjoyment Karen has five adorable dogs and an erudite parrot.
We were undecided as to which island to visit during our 10 day stay. What was certain was that we were flying into Honolulu. We stayed in Waikiki for 4 days and had a great time touring Oahu. During our stay there we've decided to visit the Big Island and searched for a place to stay. We were looking for a house with two bedrooms, WiFi, TV and pool. First time using airbnb. We were surprised and fortunate to find this listing available during our time in Hawaii. Especially considering that these were the only days available until September (based on the calendar). It sounded to good to be true. We booked a deal on 7/5 and Karen was able to have the house ready for us by noon on 7/8 which we appreciated as we had an early flight into Kona. Karen and her cute little dogs and parrot welcomed our family to her home. She was very helpful with plenty of advise on attractions and restaurants. The landscape was beautiful and the lemons from the tree were delicious. There were plenty of game boards for the family. We were skeptic about the lack of A/C but the ceiling fans actually kept the house very comfortable especially at night. The views were spectacular. There are some great ocean views as well as some awesome views of the sunset especially from the lanais. If we had to pick on a negative, besides the little road noise, I guess it would be the beautiful over the edge pool. Just that it's located in front of the main house so not totally private. However, not a deal breaker. In retrospect we wish we would have spent more time in the Big Island at Karen's & Tim's place. Thanks for making our stay enjoyable we had a great time. Especially with the cute cuddly dogs.
We highly recommend Turtle house estates but book early as not everyone is lucky as we were.
Mahalo Karen & Tim!
