The Space

Location, location, location!

If you’re looking for an authentic experience living like a local in the heart of Barcelona’s most sought-after neighbourhood, El Born, then look no further! From the small winding streets to the large squares where people go for lunch or dinner, El Born is undoubtedly the best place to spend your holiday in Barcelona.

Our wonderful Santa Maria apartment is situated in the absolute centre of this charismatic and charming district and is amazingly well located - within 5-10 minutes you can walk to the beach, the port, the Ramblas, and the beautiful Ciutadella Park. You also have dozens of bus stops (including the tourist hop-on, hop-off bus), three metro stations and the international train station Franca within a 3 minute walk as well as the best shops, restaurants, bars and cafes in Barcelona just a few metres away.

The apartment is a large 60m2 corner apartment, with a great dual aspect view - over the pretty Fossar de les Moreres square and along the Passeig del Born (main street of the neighbourhood) on one side and directly into the door of the stunning Santa Maria del Mar church on the other. It has three large balconies where you can sip on some Sangria and watch the world go by.

With two double bedrooms (one with a sofa bed which is made up on request) the apartment can sleep up to four people. It has a spacious living room with two balconies (one on each corner), a fully equipped kitchen with oven, fridge, freezer, cooker etc, and a small bathroom with shower. There is a washing machine which you are welcome to use and also a secure, high speed wifi internet connection.

Being situated on the first floor, the only downside to this apartment is that there is a lot of noise from passers-by on the streets and square outside, and from the delivery vans who supply the nearby cafes and bars in the mornings. For us, this isn’t an issue because we love to feel completely immersed in the city vibe, but if you are noise-sensitive it is important to consider this before booking. As a matter of courtesy, we provide complimentary earplugs for those of you who are light sleepers! :) The up-side is that throughout the day you get to hear beautiful organ music playing from inside the church, and every now and again there is even a concert in the square outside, giving you by far the best seats in the house from the private balconies!

As your hosts, Chris (airbnb user 493394) and I (Sarah) are here to look after you and can provide you with all the information you need on where to go and what to do during your stay. We provide all the latest city magazines so you know what's happening while you are here and to make you feel at home, we even throw in a few essentials such as freshly baked bread, milk, tea, coffee... and Spanish wine! :)

  • A fantastic location, walking distance to everything. Sarah was lovely and available by phone to help with any queries. Keep in mind that the fantastic location is noisy, the square always has visitors, tour guides and talking which reverberates off the walls of buildings around the square. But it didn't deter us from having a great time.

You can live like a local and soak up the Barcelona atmosphere and within walking distance of the beach, parks and old Gothic quarter. Will definitely return.

  • There is no reason to question not staying in this home! My wife and I had an absolutely amazing time in Sarah's apartment. Her recommendations made our trip more enjoyable and she is an amazing host. The area surrounding the apartment is bustling with cafés, bars, restaurants, tapas etc. everything you need is literally at your doorstep. The ramblas is close and so is the beach.
If in barcelona you NEED to stay here.

    Thank you Sarah.

  • Thank you Sarah for a wondering stay at your lovely apartment.

The location is excellent and though busy we felt the buzz from the surrounding streets was what made the trip. It was great to be living in the core of such an amazing city. The apartments locations means than within 10-15 mins walk we were either at the beach, in the core of the gothic quarter, strolling in parc cuitadella, buying great cheese in the Santa Caterina market (much much nicer than the La Boqueria, less touristy and beautifully designed.) or (email hidden) at the marina. We didn’t need to use public transport for the whole stay.

For an historic apartment in such an amazing location we were surprised at its size, the living room was great and we kept the windows open to absorb the atmosphere of El Born and the church bells. Bedrooms were also a good size and the kitchen was small but as Sarah had given so many great local restaurant recommendations we hardly used it. It was perfect for us and our 7 year old daughter.

El Born is like a village within the city – we ate every evening in eateries all within a fews mins walk of the apartment. The area felt v. safe, clean and had some amazing small speciality shops. We would hugely recommend the apartment and have and will recommend it to anyone we know who is going to Barcelona.

And thanks again for allowing us a late check out on Sunday. This personal contact and consideration is what makes staying in airbnb properties so special.

  • This is one awesome place! Sarah was amazing, immediate responses, helpful and provided tons of information. The best thing about the place was by far the location. It is plenty big enough. We were a couple but two couples could have stayed there easily (with some bathroom sharing skills) and has three balconies, two on a medieval jousting court, which now houses two restaurants and a cute coffee shop where you can get your afternoon cappuccino, and chocolate croissants. There is an efficient kitchen, but with the restaurants literally a stones throw from the place, we never used it. The other balcony looks directly into the 14th c Santa Maria del Mar church (read the novel about by the same name before you go if your a geek like me, it tells the story of the building of it), a beautiful place. To the left of the balcony about a block from the apartment are three or four small restaurants with outdoor seating right in the courtyard of the church (three or four small markets there too). We ate breakfast there every morning for very reasonable prices in a magical setting. One of them serves an American style breakfast with cafe Americano and eggs :). Absolutely perfect location to walk everywhere, 15 minutes easy walk to Barcelonetta Beach, about the same to the great shopping and beautiful architecture in the Gothic quarter, near the Cathedral which has a great courtyard area with restaurants and shopping. We actually were taking the Rick Steve's self walking tour and eating in a small courtyard in the old Jewish Quarter and we ran into Rick Steve himself updating his book. Even though Las Ramblas is like Time Square and not our kind of place, it's an easy walk. Advice: Learn the El Born neighborhood from your (website hidden) Maps. Figure out right away how to get to Carrer Argentera. (Its a right from the outdoor restaurants), that will take you to the metro stop Jaume about 1/4 mile away and to the Cathedral in the Gothic quarter. From Jaume you can get anywhere. By the ten ride pass, two people can share unlike Washington's metro. Don't be afraid of the subway. If your from the U.S. (we're from Washington), the subway is way different, clean and safe. But the amazing thing is the trains come every 3 and 1/2 minutes, so no need to worry about missing one, because there is another right behind. That also makes transferring a snap. Another bit of advice is download the Hailo app for iphone. Sarah turned us on to it and leaving the airport Easter Sunday morning, we pushed the button and a cab came to our front door in 3 minutes, we paid by credit card through the app, and paid the meter price with no add on fees. Works everywhere in city by GPS . Awesome. Also locate Set Born tapas restaurant about a five minute walk from apartment, great authentic tapas, friendly staff and very inexpensive, in...

  • Sarah was the perfect host.

She was there to meet us and provided us with a complimentary bottle of delicious wine, and an exhausitve list of suggested things to do.

In addition, her communication was excellent with advice on a number of options on how to get from the airport to the apartment.

The Apartment is in an amazing, vibrant location, with excellent shopping not far, and bars and restaurants to suit the a worn out tourist after something easy or somebody after something a little different.
