About this listing
The Mercantile is special. Used in the 1930's as a neighborhood Grocery, this space has been lovingly restored to its original footprint. It is a bright open space with high ceilings and rustic wood floors located in the heart of the Mississippi hood
The Mercantile is our future Farm-Stand and current crash pad when we are in Portland. That said, it is full of our favorite things and traces of our creative energy. It is an open floor plan with full bed and a set of bunk beds, bathroom with shower and full galley kitchen with dining for 4. There is a sitting area as well with a couch and chairs.
You have the whole place to yourself including a small backyard with fire-pit and a few hay bales.// and the front stoop of course - We love to hang out there and catch the Mississippi Ave. vibe.
Interaction with Guests
We live offsite, but have helper Gnomes in the area. If you have any problems or need anything at all they are just a phone call away!
Tierra Soul is located in the fun and hip Mississippi Avenue Historic District as well as the N. Williams commercial corridor ~ in other words a couple blocks from boutiques and coffee shops, restaurants and parks.
The Farmhouse is a 5 minute drive, and 10 minute MAX ride from downtown and a 5 minute drive, or 30 min. walk, to the Alberta Arts District.
We are 3 blocks from a MAX station and bus stop. Check out the TriMet trip planner ((website hidden)) to arrange your travels to and from the airport or other destination.
LEAVE NO TRACE: At the end of your stay please strip all beds, start a load of laundry and leave the rest in the laundry room off the kitchen. Take all your trash and recycling out to the city receptacles, remove everything that wasn't there when you arrived and put everything back where you found it. Do all the dishes and put them away where you found them.
SMOKING POLICY: No smoking inside... there is a special sacred smoking space in the back. Please clean up all your butts. Do not leave them in our yard or in the fire pit. Cannabis is legal so that's cool. Just keep it outside and in respectful quantity.
ALCOHOL: Light social drinking/smoking is permitted. Partying is not. Please respect our home.
PET POLICY: We do not allow pets except service animals. If you will bring a service animal please fax us its credentials before you arrive.
NEIGHBOR RESPECT: This is our neighborhood and we expect you to keep noise levels reasonable inside and out. If we receive a noise report you will be asked to leave immediately without refund.
Dave & Krista were great. Very helpful when we had questions. Check-in was easy with the lockbox. The Mercantile space is really cute inside. A little spare, but with lots of nice touches for ambiance. The neighborhood was perfect - Mississippi Ave has great coffee, bars, restaurants, and boutique shops. Easy 10 min walk to MAX yellow, or take the 4 bus and it drops you off right outside the front door.
Got a chance to meet the adorable Arias family at the beginning of my stay. They were wonderful and very welcoming.
The house is REALLY cute and cozy. Bright and airy with an artistic vibe. The location is INSANELY close to a lot of fun areas. The shops, bars, and restaurants of Mississippi street start just a block over but the house is still peaceful and quiet. Alberta street is close by as well .
The bed is ridiculously comfortable. I am going to miss it. Haha!
We played frisbee in the little park across the street and walked down Skidmore to the bluffs to watch the sunset. AMAZING!!
Would totally stay here again. SO CUTE. Anyone who stays here will have a good time.
We were looking for a valentine day getaway and were tired of the usual downtown hotel experience. Found the converted mercantile space via airbnb search; what a sweet experience.
Hand claps to our hosts and their warmth, openness. The mercantile space was the perfect unplugged setup we needed to get lost in PDX.
