Welcome to this beautiful mountain eco-farm hostel.
We offer this single bed room in a beautifully restored cottage typical of this region, which is hidden away in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is peaceful and private, with lovely views and is a great base to explore this stunning corner of Spain known as La Alpujarra.
The facilities are simple but charming and include a kitchen-dining room and a cosy sitting room area with a wood burning stove. There is also a shaded dining patio . The bathroom consists of a bath with a shower and wash basin and the eco-friendly compost loo is situated down a short path.
The land is terraced and wooded with many fruit trees. There is fruit in season most of the year including oranges, figs, grapes and pomegranates. Guests are welcome to help themselves! There is a chlorine-free swimming pool filled weekly with fresh mountain water and hammocks near by to relax in.
The local market town of Orgiva is just a 20 minute stroll, with a variety of bars and restaurants to enjoy. This is where to catch the buses to get around the region for those without a car.
This area is noted for its wild beauty and is ideal for those people who love mountain walking, bird watching, horse riding and love being in the heart of nature.
There are stunning views from the white villages of Capileira, Pampaneira and Trevelez, and on a clear day, it is possible to see as far as Morocco!
If you want to go further afield; it is 1 hours drive to the fabled city of Granada famous for the Alhambra Palace and 40 minutes by car to the beaches of the Costa Tropical.
Other Things to Note
Whilst an electric heater is provided in the bedroom during the winter months, there is a small charge for logs for the wood burning stove.
Please smoke outside. Please do not use blankets and other bedding on the ground for sunbathing, as they get covered in burrs and seeds. please use chairs and mats provided.
Please no dogs as I have 3 already!
Rita was very helpful and collected me from the bus from Orgiva. She also gave me a lift back to town when I left. The place is beautiful and romantic. I have never seen anything like this before. Do not expect luxury: all the simple things that you need are there, like a bed in a little bedroom, a hot shower and the possibility to cook.
We had some nice talks and I enjoyed my time at your place a lot. Thank you very much!
I had a wonderfully relaxing and restful stay here. Rita was very welcoming and friendly going out of her way to make my visit to the Alpujarras an interesting one. I have no hesitation in recommending Rita's place !
Rita's place is a little paradise if you are seeking a peaceful, simple rustic retreat. Beautifully done, it is 'eco' with the huge benefit of good lighting, good shower and warmth. It makes a cosy home in winter and will have a totally different vibe once the hot weather returns. The compost 'loo with a view' is great to use.Rita was always kind, helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my stay immensely and the company of 2 other guests. Highly recommended if it is the sort of rustic experience you are seeking.
Rita met us as we arrived after dark to help us find her little cortico which is perched on a hillside out of Orgiva. It is a little haven of tranquillity, beautiful flowers, loquats, pomegranates and persimmons, avocados, almonds, olives, and sweet chestnuts. The geckos and little birds are shy, hardly seen, and the sound of water running in the acequia is often to be heard. I saw a falcon flash by. Her helpfulness and friendliness were wonderful - she is a mine of really useful information about the area: where to go, what's on when, places to eat, etc. The building is traditional, and rooms are basic, simple, clean and homely. The kitchen has everything you would need/expect, and there is a small library of books to read while having breakfast out on the patio in the sun or relaxing in the sitting room after a days sightseeing, walking in the hills or whatever. If simplicity is what you want, it would be hard to do better and I would readily return.
I felt very welcomed by Rita, Nicky and Rita's Family including the dogs. The place was a good base to set out for hiking or just to stay the whole day under the shadow of the trees relaxing in the middle of a litte paradise... I also liked the style of the facilities. Everything made with love. So thank you for everything and all the best for you, Nicky and your family.
Rita's place is like an oasis on the hillside. Walking distance to Orgiva but far enough away that you feel in the countryside. The cottage is clean and lovely with everything you need. There are fig, almond, olive and pomegranate trees. The three dogs are super friendly and sweet. Nikki met me at the bus station and took me shopping so I would have supplies. We went for evening walks with the dogs which I really enjoyed. Thank you Rita and Nikki and Gaupa and Nanook and Chico! Definitely recommend staying at the Ecohouse!
Rita is GREAT -- totally lighthearted and funny and down-to-earth yet seriously helpful when you need it. The house is heavenly, with spectacular views and such quiet nights. Nothing not to like about this place and the wonderful host. HIGHLY recommend.

I moved to Spain from N Yorkshire with my family in 1983. We bought this farm to raise our children in the nature, growing our own organic veg. rebuilding and restoring in traditional style the old farmhouse and living a very simple life without electricity or T.V! My husband was a craftsman in wood which is reflected in our home.
Now my 2 half Spanish grandchildren love to visit and enjoy my farm as their father once did, being in the nature, playing with my 3 dogs and 2 cats, swimming in summer, picking and eating fruit straight from the trees..
I still love gardening, and being outside and walking my dogs . I am also a feng shui practitioner and especially love dowsing. I also like to travel when I can and enjoyed a trip to Thailand this year (2011) where I spent a week on an elephant sanctuary as a volunteer which included feeding and then bathing the elephants in the river! In the past I have been on shamanic journeys to Mexico and Peru. I enjoy meeting people and welcoming fellow travelers and kindred spirits to my home and sharing with them my way of life. I feel I have been very blessed.
