About this listing
Built in 1849 our house is located in the historical village of Woodstock, VT. With cedar roofing, white clapboard siding and forest green shutters, it stands a greek revival relic of the state's classic farmhouses. 3 minute walk and you're in town!
Be our guest in rural Vermont! This quiet private space is located on the first floor of the back of our house and has its own entrance. It has a lovely bedroom, living room (with fireplace) and efficiency kitchen. In the master bedroom there is a queen bed, a bureau, a desk, closet and bathroom attached. The bathroom has a new generously sized walk-in tiled shower. For extra sleeping space, convert the full-size futon couch in the living room. The kitchen has a four element electric range with large oven, sink, a mini-refrigerator filled with breakfast goodies and beverages. Out the living room door is a private porch with comfortable chairs that looks out on our backyard. We can accommodate 1 big car or 2 compact cars. There is no TV but we have wireless internet. We have a washer/dryer in the main house that you are welcome to use during daytime hours.
It is a 3 minute walk over the Covered Bridge (on the Ottaquechee River) to the village of Woodstock, which is full of historical sites, restaurants and gift shops! River Street is the perfect place for a morning stroll to Faulkner Park or a hike up Mt. Peg or Mt. Tom. Winter travelers will enjoy our proximity to Suicide Six Ski Mountain (10- min. drive), Killington Ski Resort, Pico and Okemo (30 min. drive). You will be able to have a full day at the mountain, without the hectic environment of a ski town, and if there's a day you'd like to partake in other winter activities, we'll be happy to direct you to the best sledding hills/skating ponds etc. in the area.
We are 1.75 hours from Burlington, 1 hours from Montpelier, 2.5 hours from Boston MA and 30 minutes from Hanover and Lebanon, NH.
Our airbnb space is located in the rear, downstairs section of our house. It has the feel of a completely private apartment with it's own private entrance, even though it has a separate connecting door to our main house. We have a year round tenant that lives upstairs, above the airbnb space and they have their own separate entrance.
Interaction with Guests
The space is very private and we leave it up to the individual on how much interaction they desire. Many of our guests have visited Woodstock before so they know where they are headed. We are always available for suggestions on where to eat or go if needed.
It is a walkers' paradise. 3 minutes walk to the Historic Village of Woodstock, 3 minutes walk to Faulkner Park, 3 minutes walk to the Ottauquechee River (swimming and fishing), 3 minutes walk to the Mt. Tom trails, 3 minute walk to the Library, Town Hall Theatre and local restaurants. 5 minute walk to Billing Farm and the Mt Peg trails.
Friends of ours occupy the apartment directly above the listed space, so we will expect you to be quiet during the evening, night and early morning hours. It is also a shared driveway so it is important to not block the access of others and keep your cars in the designated space. We are happy to accommodate families, but no more than 4 adults will be allowed per night.
Andrew and I very much enjoyed our time in this well-located, comfortably appointed Air BnB. The place is very homely and cosy, with a functioning kitchen (well-used by me), lovely little lounge for relaxing (Andrew took ownership of the leather recliner and foot-stool), and an extremely comfortable bed in the separate bedroom with adjoining bathroom. Woodstock is a very pretty little town and the location of the apartment meant we were able to explore it on foot with ease- just a three minute walk to shops and restaurants. Jed - thanks for a very happy week in your part of the world!
Brilliant apartment scrupulously clean and comfortable just like a home from home fresh coffee granola yogurt and milk on arrival so better than home actually highly recommended the pictures do not do it justice it was better in reality
Jeb had everything set up for us including some fresh ground coffee and cream! He checked in on us to make sure all was in order and it was. Would definitely stay here again!
We were very pleased with it. It was clean and comfortable. Quiet cozy New England country feel. Jed was very nice and the neighbors were pleasant.
The bathroom is off the bedroom, so that might be an issue for a third person staying in the living room, but if that's not a problem for someone, this is a great place to stay and very convenient to locations in town.
Dear Air BnB, Our experience staying at the River Street apartment was even better than we imagined. Our host was gracious and very thoughtful. The apartment, including a large porch, is beautifully appointed and gorgeous. The location is convenient for walking into town and hiking nearby trails. The next time we are in the area, we hope we might be able to book a stay here once again. Thank you.
I have nothing but positive things to say about Jed and his apartment. We arrived late Thursday night and briefly met Jed. The apt was fully furnished with kitchen needs as well as snacks (as mentioned in other reviews) which was really thoughtful. We were within walking distance of downtown Woodstock and several hiking trails. It was the perfect location and a very comfortable stay!
We had a wonderful stay at Jed's apartment in Woodstock. The apartment is spacious, well-equipped and just looks great. Our son loved to play at the great lawn at the back of the house. The location, 50 meters from the covered bridge/Woodstock green is also great, everything is at walking distance. Jed is there when you need him and will give you complete privacy otherwise. In short, wonderful place in a beautiful, small town.
About the Host, Jed
Local business owner, Jed and daughter, Chloe have lived in Woodstock, VT for 20+ years. We enjoy music, dance, art, cooking, woodworking, gardening, and other outdoor activities. Jed plays the harmonica in a local band and his company sells compost to local gardeners. He has put alot of creative work into making this 1849 house a comfortable and energy efficient home, especially the nice private apartment where you will be staying. Chloe is back at the University of Vermont after taking a break to travel and work on organic farms in New Zealand during 2012.
Chloe has stayed as an Airbnb guest before, but such internet capabilities through social networking are still foreign to Jed, though there is hope. However, he is a seasoned host and certainly will help make the most of your visit to VT.
