The Space

Be our guest in rural Vermont! This quiet private space is located on the first floor of the back of our house and has its own entrance. It has a lovely bedroom, living room (with fireplace) and efficiency kitchen. In the master bedroom there is a queen bed, a bureau, a desk, closet and bathroom attached. The bathroom has a new generously sized walkin tiled shower with plenty of hot water. For extra sleeping space, convert the full-size futon couch in the living room. The kitchen has a four element electric range with large oven, sink, a mini-refrigerator and ample counter space. Out the back door is a porch that looks out onto our backyard that you'll be welcome to use! We can accomodate 1 big car or 2 compact cars. We have wireless internet and a washer/dryer in the main house that you'd be welcome to use during daytime hours.

We are a 3 minute walk over the Covered Bridge (on the Ottaquechee River) to the village of Woodstock, which is full of historical sites, restaurants and gift shops! River Street is the perfect place for a morning stroll to Faulkner Park or a hike up Mt. Peg or Mt. Tom. Winter travelers will enjoy our proximity to Suicide Six Ski Mountain (10- min. drive), The Beast, a.k.a. Killington Ski Resort, Pico and Okemo (30 min. drive). You will be able to have a full day at the mountain, without the hectic environment of a ski town and if there's a day you'd like to partake in other winter activities, we'll be happy to direct you to the best sledding hills/skating ponds etc. of the area.

We are 1.75 hours from Burlington, 1 hours from Montpelier, 2.5 hours from Boston MA and 30 minutes from Hanover and Lebanon, NH.

  • What a lovely, clean, quiet, cozy space with a great back porch to enjoy birdsong from. Jed was a gracious host and thoughtfully even left nice breakfast goodies and healthy snacks! Would definitely recommend.

  • This is a wonderful home with singular beauty and energy.
Absolute joy and rest is what we found here. Everything is close by, magnificent trails, romantic walks, and great dining. The place is a piece of paradise and deserves to be visited over and over again, for it offers true warmth and inspiration. Jed does a wonderful job!

  • Location, location, location! Jed's place is perfectly nestled within the Woodstock community. A short walk took us into the village center and then to Faulkner Trail to Mount Tom. A fantastic place to spend Memorial Day Weekend. The Woodstock Parade marched right past Jed's place! We caught a movie at the Town Hall movie theater (also within walking distance) and drove out to Quechee to check out The Gorge, VINS, and Simon Pearce. Jed's home is a delightful slice of Americana.

  • Jed was great - as other reviewers mentioned, a fire was built and ready to go when we arrived. He was welcoming and available, but mostly left us to ourselves to enjoy our vacation. He was helpful when it snowed with advice about the roads, and very accommodating when we needed to stay another night.

The place was perfect, incredibly cozy and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was fully equipped (stove, microwave, sink, tea kettle, french press, necessary pots, pans, and implements) and the little breakfast nook was really nice. The couch was a great spot in front of the fire. There was ample firewood for feeding the fire on the back porch. The bed was large and comfortable and the shower was fabulous. The separate upstairs is occupied, but we didn't hear much noise.

The house is very cute on the outside. It was snowy when we were there, and everything was covered and beautiful. The town is very very close by, which was great because we could walk to get a beer or dinner. We had a few drinks at Bentley's which had a nice atmosphere.

We went skiing at Killington, which was wonderful, almost nobody on the slopes on a Tuesday and great snow (in early March). The views were fantastic. It's about a 30 minute drive from the house.

Overall highly recommended for a quiet getaway!

  • We had a great stay at Jed's place. The apartment is beautiful and cozy and you immediately feel at home. There's a fireplace and we lit a fire every evening when coming back from ski. We just loved it :-) We had a great time and we definitely want to come back in spring or summer to do some hiking in this beautiful region.

  • We can't imagine a better place to stay in Woodstock! Jed is a great host and Woodstock is a pleasant getaway for a weekend break.
The apartment is located just a stones throw away from the town center, with a bonus being the cool trip over the old covered bridge each day.
Jed greeted us when we arrived and showed us the apartment. A large driveway with a private parking spot right in front of the entrance. The apartment is very spacious and tastefully decorated. We immediately felt comfortable there. Not only did Jed have items stocked in the fridge, fruit on the table, granola, fresh ground coffee, etc... but he also had the fireplace all ready to go for us. He also gave us some great local recommendations. The hospitality couldn't have been any better.
We slept great after a relaxing night in front of the fireplace, the bed is amazing. High quality linens and towels, a large bathroom and a shower with double shower heads. The heated towel rack was also a very nice touch.
We got pizza at "Pi", a new pizza place in town, it had thin crust and was very tasty. Also, be sure to grab a drink at the tavern in the Woodstock Inn, it was a nice atmosphere in a historic building. And for lunches, make sure you don't miss out on the Woodstock Farmer's Market, they have really good sandwiches and lots of fresh prepared dishes.
If you are looking to get a little taste of nature, Mount Tom is nearby and an easy hike, even in the snow.
If we return, we will definitely want to stay with Jed again.

  • My friend and I were meeting in Woodstock for a conference. This was such a great spot! A charming little apartment and a very close walk to town. We enjoyed ourselves so much. Jed offered to make us a fire but it was warm enough that we didn't need it. We did however, enjoy sitting on the back deck in the rocking chairs with a glass of wine. Nice way to spend the evening! I'm already planning on going back with my beau sometime.

  • Jed was very friendly and helpful. The house itself couldn't be better -- fireplace, kitchen, living room, lovely bed and bathroom. The location also can't be beat, right across the covered bridge and within easy walking distance of all the lovely restaurants and shops in town. We'll definitely be back soon!

About
Local business owner, Jed and daughter, Chloe have lived in Woodstock, VT for 20+ years. We enjoy music, dance, art, cooking, woodworking, gardening, and other outdoor activities. Jed plays the harmonica in a local band, and his company sponsers a local contra dance series in Woodstock at the Little Theatre the third Friday of every month September-May. He has put alot of creative work into making the 1849 house a comfortable and energy efficient home. Chloe is back at the University of Vermont after taking a break to travel and work on organic farms in New Zealand during 2012. Chloe has stayed as an Airbnb guest before, but such internet capabilities through social networking are still foreign to Jed, though there is hope. However, he is a seasoned host and certainly will help make the most of your visit to VT.
