First and foremost Brook is absolutely a very nice and sweet person. This is such a great location for the price. We were able to navigate around the city and enjoyed the neighborhood. We felt quite safe walking after dark. This is a perfect place to stay especially if you are just in and out of the city. The place is old and the amenities are very basic. If you want to do any actual cooking it is a bit of a challenge as there is only a single hot plate to use. Also if you are a traveler with any sort of physical difficulty I would tell you to be wary as navigating up the steep flights of stairs is a bit much but doable. I think the bedroom was the biggest challenge as the bed filled the entire room. The bed was comfortable but was hard to get in and out of as you had to climb over the foot board or shimmy against a wall sideways to get in and out.
Response from Brook:
As a superhost and someone who has rented my Park Avenue apartment dozens of times ... this is the first I have heard of a few things pointed out above. My building dates back to the 1920s which provides awesome character and charm but it is a prewar structure. I messaged Debra when she was booking because the gas line to the stove has been cut off from time to time for work being done. It should hopefully be permanently fixed any day now. I always let guests know in advance if there is an issue and provide an electric burner and skillet. There are stairs up to the second floor but they are wide and made of marble. I would not classify them as steep. I'm in Manhattan real estate for over a decade now and have seen some very steep stairs in my travels throughout the city. I am a cyclist and carry my bike up and down the stairs frequently. As for the bedroom, I have a queen bed and the room is beautifully dominated by the bed. However, there is also a dresser, a book shelf and great art in the room. The best part about the bedroom is that it is pin drop quiet. Happy that overall Debra had a great stay. I wanted to respond to the review above though because for the value to stay on Park Avenue in the East 80s you simply cannot beat my setup. Location, location, location : )
Brook's place was great!!! Perfect for a couple. Bed was comfortable. Not a lot of natural light in the apartment but since we were only really there to sleep, that was fine. I never got to meet Brook but she was extremely helpful!!! The place is walkable to good restaurants and central park.... nice area! It was perfect and I would gladly go back!
Brook is a terrific host, welcoming and very willing to help you with any questions, problems, or needs. The location of this apartment is, as she says, a "jewel." Great museums nearby; Carnegie Hill shops, cafes, and a couple very fine restaurants up the street along with excellent grocery stores and delis; the east side subway within two blocks and Central Park an easy walk west. This was a perfect spot for our rambles about the city.
