ABOUT KAYA'S PLACE
Kaya's Place is a 26 room lodge on the stunning Black Beach in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Built in the Afro-Caribbean "Rustico" style, the hotel is artistic and unique. Local woods and materials have been used in their natural state, making each room different and beautiful. Every space you encounter will be a pleasurable experience. The sound of the waves is always in the background, soothing and tranquil, guaranteed to take you away from the stress of everyday life. Inside the hotel, you will find many places to relax. The reception area is more like a living room, with a gigantic sofa, television, people to chat with and view of the ocean. The large deck upstairs has a wonderful ocean view with hammocks and sofas - perfect for reading or taking a siesta. In the back, gardens line the walkway, filled with local plants and flowers. A covered sitting area in the garden offers another opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of others while you stay with us. Our restaurant is spacious and open with view of the ocean and a small creek with fish, water lilies, crab and other water life.

Located in Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean Coast, the area is blessed with natural beauty in the form of dense jungle with impressive flora and fauna and some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Kaya's Place is part of the growing eco-tourism industry that supports the preservation of almost 2 million square meters of primary rainforest. Taxes from this industry support the many national reserves and efforts to maintain the natural resources. We are dedicated to preserving these resources while sharing it with all the people that come to know this amazingly beautiful part of Costa Rica.

Our recent renovation of Kaya's Place was completed with the same philosophy. No lumber or materials were taken from the primary rainforest. Much was recycled wood or dead fall from local farms and lumber that had washed up from the ocean and rivers. With these natural and renewable materials, we achieved a unique character with rustic and artistic designs.

The people there are extremely nice. The hotel is fer minutes y walk before town so it is really quiet. Moreover it is a really cute place. The only problem I've noticed is the bad smell but it is OK you can survive this.

Great place to stay. Infront of "playa negra" you just literally cross the street to find this amazing black sand. The sea is calm so feel free to swim there. About the room is exactly what you will be expecting to find in Puerto Viejo. Very rustic in a good way. All rooms are equipped with ac. The people there are so nice and willing to help you at any time. I will definitely stay there again when I come back to Puerto viejo

Three of us spend a weekend here. Host and other employees are the biggest plus here, everybody's really nice. We managed to get a beer even though the bar was closed since we arrived really late (Thank you! The beer is awesome!). Rooms are small and have only the basics, but they are nicely decorated. It was clean, with a bit of termite dust :) Shower looks a bit weird with all the electric wires for water heating around it. The whole hotel has a nice vibe, as does everything in Puerto Viejo :)

This is a great place that is located within minutes of the central Puerto Viejo town. I think it would be a great place to stay temporarily. A long term stay, if you need constant Wifi, would be a little harder. I know it's the Caribbean and wifi is not always promised but I had better wifi at some restaurants just a short walk in to town. I made really good friends with the staff, especially the kitchen since they let me cook my own food and store perishables in the kitchen refrigerator. Very laid back atmosphere and your choice of amenities. I chose a private room with a private bathroom and AC. It accommodated my needs quite well. Except for the occasional crab or mosquito that crept into my room, it was a pleasant stay. I'd recommend this place and would stay in the future!

English: This was the worst hotel of our trip! Pros: - Friendly staff Cons: - Absolutely 0 privacy. The room is small and is connected with the bathroom, as the wall dividing them is open from right above the door. On top of that, there's no window that you can open on the bathroom or room. The bathroom door wouldn't even close, as it was too small for the frame. The next door room was also connected to our room with a door frame covered with a thin wood. - Door and window frames are all skewed and wonky. - The room smelled pretty bad of insecticide and air freshener. - The place felt really dirty. We even found a dry old bubblegum stuck to our sheets. - The pool table was in horrible conditions. It shouldn't be listed as an ammenity in this article. - The location in front of the beach was OK, but we found Playa Negra to be the worst of all the beaches in Puerto Viejo. Pasada a insecticida y desodorante ambiental.

From the time we arrived everyone at Kaya's Place made us feel welcome and wanted. All the girls at the front desk were very helpful! We did not take technology which added to the amazing time. We were able to get a cab or addresses whenever we needed! I can not say enough about the amazing Kaya's Place!! If you plan to travel to Costa Rica it is a must stay! Luke's tap house is an amazing addition where you can drink awesome microbrews and gluten free drinks. Pura Vida is their motto and they definitely live up to that standard and more!!
