About this listing
My apartment has everything you need to have a great weekend in Amsterdam. Next to that I've written a little guide about the city in which I've stated my favourite places. I'd like to welcome you to experience Amsterdam the best way you can.
My apartment is situated in a typical Amsterdam Art Nouveau building in a quiet street, yet it is very close to the Vondelpark, the famous Museum Square and the city centre. The neighborhood it's located in is called "Oud-West", a former working class neighborhood that tunr
Description of the space:
Coming in through the hallway on your lefthand side you find the bathroom with shower and toilet.
From the hallway you walk into the living room area with a dinner table on your left. Around the left corner you walk into the kitchen area. The living and kitchen area are not seperated by a wall or a door wich gives it a very spacious feel. From here you can also easily enter the balcony at the backside of the apartment. The balcony has to very comfortable hammocks and sun for most of the day.
The bedroom is again very spacious and located on the street side. In the bedroom there is also a small workspace and the apartment is equipped with wifi.
I could write a thousand words decribing the place yet the pictures give a great impression as well!
All guests have access to the full apartment, including wifi and digital tv.
Interaction with Guests
I will not be present during your stay. I can always be reached though in case you have any questions.
In a five minute walk from the apartment you enter the Vondelpark which is Amsterdam's most famous park and a great hangout in summer, towards Leidseplein (to the left from here) it gets more touristy so I would recommend having a picknick in the back of the park where most of the locals hang out.
Walking through the park in direction of the city center though, (so left from here) you do pass the open air theater which has great concerts and plays during summertime (mostly for free). And you can easily reach Leidsesquare and the Museum Square where the Van Gogh Museum (speaks for itsself), the Rijksmuseum (home to for instance the famous paintings by Rembrandt) and the Stedelijk Museum (mostly contemporary art) are located.
The neighborhood itself has a big shopping street, as well a supermarket one minute away from the apartment. In this area you can find quite a few nice bars and places to eat.
Public transport is right around the corner and will take you basically anywhere in town
From Schiphol airport the best way to get there is to take the train to station Amsterdam Lelylaan, from there you take tram no 1 in direction of central station. Get out at Jan Pieter Heijestraat, walk into that street and you will find my address quite easily (about 15 mins)
From Central station take tram no 1 again and follow above instructions (about 15 mins)
By car, take exit s106 from the A10 road. Drive onto the Overtoom and take a left turn onto Jan Pieter Heijestraat from there it is about 1 more minute.
- The stairway is quite noisy for my downstairs neighbour so when you enter or leave please walk normally (I've had some complaints about people jumping off the stairs etc..)
- When you smoke on the balcony (which is absolutely fine of course) you can put your sigaret buts in the yellow vase in the corner (or just take an ashtray from the kitchen cupboard)
- And, probably just like you would do at home, please no loudness after 22pm :-)
In general: Please keep my neighbours into account :-)
About the Host, Willemien
My name is Willemien and I currently live in Amsterdam. I have always enjoyed exploring different countries and cultures. My love for traveling for longer periods of time started a few years ago when I visited Central & South America for nearly a year, an amazing experience. I have also explored Asia and hopefully more travels will come. In the meantime I try to go on small trips as much as I can.
During my travels I have met many great people and I always very much enjoyed it when a local could give me advice on what to do in their city/country. I joined Airbnb to be able to let others experience Amsterdam as if they were locals as well.
I hope to provide others with a great experience of Amsterdam, like I did, when being abroad myself! :-)
