The Space

This is a large, comfortable room that's furnished like a studio. It has two bookcases, a large desk, chairs for reading or sitting meditation, and a full-height queen bed. The mattress is a great combination of memory foam atop a spring mattress. A down comforter complete the experience.

A quiet room ideal for yogis, yoginis, ashtangis, meditators, athletes, the health-conscious, or others. Located in a spacious 5-bedroom house with nearby walking trails, Jr. Olympic pool, short drive to beaches. Includes kitchen privileges.

Yoga and Meditation
There are 2 yoga studios within walking distance and many more within a 15-minute drive. Nearest is the world-famous (to many Ashtangi) Ashtanga Yoga Center directed by Tim Miller and a new studio called Yoga Six. Five minutes from the (Deepak) Chopra Center for Wellbeing at the La Costa Resort and Spa. Within 15 minutes drive to coastal Encinitas there are at least 10 yoga studios, from Iyengar, Jois and Bikram to Anusara and Anahata. There is also the SRF Meditation Gardens, temple, and ashram.

You can enjoy a full-height queen-size bed. There are two windows which you can open for fresh air or you can lower the blinds to keep it dark. You can enjoy snuggling in a thick down comforter if you like. I can bring in a space heater if you enjoy it warmer than most, and can also bring in a HEPA air filter or ionizer.
The bathroom is across the hall and shared. The room has many books which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay.

Also, the beaches nearby are popular with swimmers, active triathletes of all ages, surfers, and people who simply enjoy walking by the ocean. Don't miss Quail Botanical Gardens (now called San Diego Botanical Gardens) about 9 minutes away in nearby Encinitas.
I am happy to show any runners my favorite trails, from flat 1 to 5 mile jogs to a 5-10 mile hilly and scenic cross-country run to hilltops or to the beach. I may even run with you if you like and our schedules (and paces) match.
There is a Jr. Olympic pool with adjacent hot tub you can enjoy year-around - both are always heated with solar assistance.

The closest airport is Carlsbad Palomar (CLD), which has flights to/from LAX. San Diego airport (SAN) is the most popular nearby airport. There are many shuttles available.
For those using public transit, a 16-minute walk to a bus which goes directly to the Encinitas train station, with a commuter train (Coaster) that will take you to downtown San Diego to connect you with the Amtrak or the airport. Contact me if you want some tips on making train connections from the SAN or CLD airport (Carlsbad/Palomar). Southern California is not known for public transit, yet it can be done. With a little planning, it can be done well.

In this area are attractions like LegoLand (Carlsbad), Safari Park (Escondido), and the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and many museums in Balboa Park.

There is lots of shopping nearby, from the most basic to high-end. Many can be walked to, and quite a few are a within 10 minute drive.

There have been visitors here from all over the world (Austria, Argentina, China, Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, ...) and the US (Hawaii, Arizona, Boston, SF, ...) who have enjoyed the room, just not booked through AirBnb and instead referrals from friends of friends. Many have been attending yoga teacher workshops such as the ones at Ashtanga Yoga Center, Soul of Yoga, IyengarNorthCounty, and AnahataHeartYoga.

You may want to enjoy using the blender to make smoothies or the Omega Juicer which makes great fresh and healthy juice from carrots, celery, kale, etc. and cleans easily. For you bakers, there are 4 ovens, (convection, traditional gas, and microwave), a gas range, and long counters.

Within 10 minutes drive are a wide variety of restaurants, from vegan and vegetarian to carnivorous, from local diners and good Mexican, Thai and Indian to the usual corporate chains.

Guest Access

You will have access to the full downstairs, including the kitchen, living room, backyard, hot tub, and other shared areas.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with guests can vary as they like. Some visitors have spent most of their stay out and about, enjoying the many local events and attractions. For these, I'm happy to offer suggestions and make sure they have a safe, comfortable, quiet place to return to.
Other visitors have arranged shared adventures, exploring mutually-desirable activities or having conversations.
Yet others have found the space comfortable enough for their own private retreat.
For most visitors, it seems to be a blend of these.

Getting Around

Like most suburban Southern California neighborhoods, it's most convenient to have your own car. We're fortunate that there is a good bus stop within 10-15 minutes of walking. Also, within 10-20 minutes of walking there are many shops of all kinds, yoga and workout studios, and restaurants and open green spaces.
