The Neighborhood

Surry Hills is Australia's most stylish suburb, but with very different roots. The Ruth Park novel "The Harp In The South" describes the Surry Hills of the early 20th century, where poor Anglo-Celtic families struggled in a life of poverty and hardship in a warren of small terrace houses and dirt lanes. Surry Hills is now a vibrant mix of cutting-edge bars, cafes, art galleries and fashion houses, stretching from the metropolis of the CBD, Chinatown and Central Station, to the green expanse and stadium and entertainment complex of Moore Park. The bright nightlife and gay pride of Oxford street borders Surry Hills' shady terrace-house-lined streets. There is always more to discover in our most favourite suburb in Australia, and it's right next to the business centre of Australia's biggest city.

Getting around

The apartment is two blocks away from Central Railway station, which is a centre of city/airport/state & interstate trains; buses; and light rail. Car parking holds special challenges. Walking is recommended.

  • We had a great stay at Red Panda. Location was great - lots of restaurants and cafés nearby and able to walk to the city and the harbour. Interaction with the hosts was easy, encountered no problems whatsoever. Highly recommended, would definitely stay if in Sydney again.

  • The host was great, they were more than accommodating for my very early arrival! The place is well located in Surry Hills and makes it easy to get to Central Station and in between great restaurants and cafe's.

  • This place is all about location, 5 minutes walk to central station and Sydney's CBD.
The unit has all you need to be comfortable and has a great roof top pool. There are plenty of bars in the area with well priced meals and happy hour drinks, a personal favourite was the Evening Star Hotel with their fifteen dollar rib fillet steaks. Belinda was great to deal with and if I'm back in the area again Red Panda will be on my list to stay.

  • The flat was very nice, all commodities, a large space. You feel like at home.
It´s was really easy to get the key and a nice and usefull note was specially written for our arrival.
You are in a great neighbourhood with restaurants, shops, really nice with animation.

  • One good thing about this apartment is the location close to the Central Station and some of the best cafes in the area.
The other good thing about this apartment is the comfortable bed.
These alone could justify the choice to stay here and overlook the fact that the place needs a really good scrub, the light switches were broken in the entry and bathroom a filthy pigeon is breeding on the balcony and has squirted droppings all over the place, the dishwasher could be full of dirty plates (as was the case when I arrived) and there is a sense that someone had left in a rush without any care.

  • Red panda is very private and comfy apartment which is very well located to all nice eateries and public transport yet very quite. Belinda is helpful host and let me stayed over little to complete my office work over the check out time, even though she had to turnover the place to make it ready for another guest. My 3 nights were very good and will book it again if required.

  • The Red Panda was a great location for exploring Surry Hills yet also close enough to walk to downtown areas. The bed was very comfortable and the location was quiet. Belinda was a great hostess and even came back so we could pick up something we'd left behind. We greatly appreciated being able to do a load of laundry in the suite as well.

About
Stephen - I'm a friendly, fun, decent and surprisingly sensible young man with a love of international travel, cultural exchange, new experiences and creativity. I travel overseas often for work and pleasure. While I'm away, I would like to share my home with you so you can experience what Sydney has to offer in a comfortable, peaceful, original and colourful home environment. While I'm away, you'll be most likely to meet with my best friend and business partner Belinda, who works a block away (pictured with me). As for me, I'm Australian with English parents, originally from Adelaide, and I've previously lived in Hanoi, Darwin, Canberra and Phnom Penh.
