Featured in Gardens are for Living by noted landscape architect Judy Kameon, Agave House is wrapped in windows and skylights. Sunlight is abundant, and guests feel privately perched with a view of mountain ranges, and lush foliage on all sides.

The Space

Drenched in sunlight, Agave House is nestled in the most sought after location in the Ojai Valley, the fabled East End. Next door to Beatrice Woods previous home and studio, it is also a short stroll to the Krishnamurti Library, and the historical Thacher school, founded in 1885.

Situated at the base of Horn Canyon ( 5 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the beach ), it has sweeping veiws of the Ojai mountain range, repleat with low flying hawks, incredible hiking, and a huge private yard, filled with tropical plants, succulents, a Moroccan tile patio with chiminea, and a field of Aloe.

Just up the trail which winds past the house and up over the "Pink Moment" bluffs, resplendant with local flora and fauna, crystal swimming holes, and a natural climbing wall, is a Pilates studio offering world class massage in an outdoor setting.
Natural sage, aloe, and aromatic herbs are right outside your front door, and down the road is an organic Pizza Parlor nestled amongst orange trees, oaks, and more sweeping vistas. The good news is, you are still 1 hour and 15 minutes from Los Angeles and a nice bike ride from town.

The house is restored with birch floors and walls, skylights, mirrors and windows to reflect the outdoors. Downstairs, glass doors open onto the private yard. It offers Wifi, dishwasher, flat screen TV, and we can provide laundry and in house maid service upon request during your stay. The bathroom features a restored clawfoot tub, birch paneling, a skylight, which is great for star-gazing while soaking in an aromatic bath courtesy of Persephenie organic bath products, and plush white spa robes.
The bedding and mattress match top hotels, for an exquisite sleep beneath another skylight, and one more view of Montana sized stars, clear as diamonds due to the lack of city light.

The concept of the space is to offer a totally serene indoor/outdoor experience with all the luxury of good, comfortable design mixed with a really lovely collection of antiques and art, combined with a high tech environment to cater to those who must work while away from the city.
It is perfect for weekends or for the week to work in nature, near organic cuisine, Whole Foods style markets, world class spas, yoga, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and of course..surfing!

Surf boards, a well stocked library, and a hammock await you. This is the perfect place to re-charge all of your senses...enjoy!

Guest Access

Guests have access to the best hiking in Ojai right outside the front door, there are fresh oranges to pick from the tree on the property, mountain streams, pepper trees, a soccer field surrounded by the mountain range and generally the most gorgeous flora and fauna that Ojai has to offer.

Interaction with Guests

Guest can text me or call me at any time if they need something. I live in Los Angeles but my folks live on the property and are available for anything guests may need from extra firewood, to tea light candles. The key and a manual are left for them so if they don't want to see anyone, they have that option also. The property is one acre so complete privacy is available.

The Neighborhood

The East End of Ojai is the most gorgeous area in Ojai. It is a sought after respite for people from neighboring Los Angeles where vacation homes are kept, but is also one steeped with long time residents who will give a friendly wave to anyone who happens past on foot, bicycle or car. Low traffic, close to town, like mountains in Spain, or the South of France. It's exquisite by all standards of what paradise looks like. Flanked by two prep schools, students jogging and horseback riding are a frequent sight. It's a great place to unwind.

Getting around

There is a cute open air trolley car that picks up and let's off at Boccalis restaurant from the center of town which is a walk from the house. Drive is 3-5 minutes. Walk is about 45 minutes.

Other Things to Note

The house is the perfect balance of nature and town. Just far enough away to make one feel completely at peace. A massage and Pilates studio are a short walk up the trail, and hiking is at the front door. Gorgeous beaches are a 30 minute drive away and surfboards are available!

  • This was a magical AirBnB experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Caitlin, who handles the booking, made the whole process seamless and private. The Agave House is outside Ojai central overlooking beautiful, rugged hills. The house itself is innovative and charming and even the inviting listing photos don't do it justice.

  • This has been my favorite airbnb house to date. It's truly a magical cabin in the woods. Caitlin has done a wonderful job in creating the loveliest space in the prettiest part of ojai. We did not want to leave and look forward to returning soon. Thanks Caitlin!

  • We had a great time at the Agave House! It was clean and an interesting architectural cabin kind of experience, looking over avocado groves and the hills around Ojai. We brought an inflatable mattress, which was a good idea for sleeping a couple with a toddler plus two single people upstairs. I was looking forward to seeing the Judy Kameon garden, unfortunately the summer is probably not the time to come for that, and I have a feeling it isn't what it originally was, certainly not like the outdoor pictures here. Also, Ojai is hot and dusty in June. But for a place to escape LA and a base camp for beach trips to the Ventura / SB area, it was a great choice. Thanks Caitlin!

    Response from Caitlin:

Never had this response to Agave House. The tiles have faded a bit from the sun, but remain intact as seen in the Kameon book. Next up? Replace the still gorgeous Kismet tile! Please read the rave reviews below to make an accurate assessment.

  • We absolutely loved the Agave House! It was perfect for 4 people and we were all beyond impressed. You feel like you are in a tree house but with more space! We enjoyed drinks in the ridiculously cute kitchen before heading to dinner at Bocalli's, one of the places Caitlin recommended. The food was AMAZING, portions were huge, beautiful setting and the prices were cheap. We couldn't have asked for more. We were only there for one night and no one wanted to leave in the morning. If you are looking for some R & R, this is the perfect place!

  • Loved staying here. Great place only topped by the beautiful location. Sure makes you feel like you're home sweet home!

  • This place was absolutely amazing! We were a small group visiting for a wedding, and it was a perfect place to lay our heads for the night. It was exactly how it looks in the pictures, an incredibly thoughtful home. We all want to return next year!

  • Sweet little place - best for 2 people but manageable for 3-4. The location is lovely - about 4 miles from town. Beautiful walks in this area. Although two refrigerators, they are both very compact in size so buying a lot of food for meals if cooking takes some planning. Overall experience was very positive.

  • We really enjoyed the Agave house. Very unique cozy place with tons of character. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of the walking path right out the front door. I absolutely recommend the agave house if you're looking for a out of the norm home. I would happily go back. Caitlin was a pleasure to work with.

  • We only had a chance to stay one night at this amazing little house but will definitely return! The house itself is both adorable and very cool - Caitlin has done an amazing job renovating the hut - walls with windows, even parts of the kitchen floor have sky lights. The location is perfect for hiking - though we were there at the hottest time of the year. I highly recommend staying here if you want a private yet not isolated stay in Ojai.

Zoe Bios Creative
Hello! I am a creative professional..illustrator, interior designer and brand consultant, living in Los Feliz, CA. I just co-founded my own business, a Design/Art House called Zoe Bios Creative. Our showroom is located in Silverlake CA, and we offer art and home furnishings. Although I love my LA neighborhood, it is great to keep my home in Ojai as a vacation rental so that I can escape to it from time to time to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, to hike, and to enjoy small town life..:). I love the idea of sharing my place and the experience of Ojai with others! It is truly a great place to both relax and/or work, and recharge. I have completely redesigned it to let in lots of light and veiws...I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do! Cheers! Caitlin
