Featured in Gardens are for Living by noted landscape architect Judy Kameon, Agave House is wrapped in windows and skylights. Sunlight is abundant, and guests feel privately perched with a view of mountain ranges, and lush foliage on all sides.
Drenched in sunlight, Agave House is nestled in the most sought after location in the Ojai Valley, the fabled East End. Next door to Beatrice Woods previous home and studio, it is also a short stroll to the Krishnamurti Library, and the historical Thacher school, founded in 1885.
Situated at the base of Horn Canyon ( 5 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the beach ), it has sweeping veiws of the Ojai mountain range, repleat with low flying hawks, incredible hiking, and a huge private yard, filled with tropical plants, succulents, a Moroccan tile patio with chiminea, and a field of Aloe.
Just up the trail which winds past the house and up over the "Pink Moment" bluffs, resplendant with local flora and fauna, crystal swimming holes, and a natural climbing wall, is a Pilates studio offering world class massage in an outdoor setting.
Natural sage, aloe, and aromatic herbs are right outside your front door, and down the road is an organic Pizza Parlor nestled amongst orange trees, oaks, and more sweeping vistas. The good news is, you are still 1 hour and 15 minutes from Los Angeles and a nice bike ride from town.
The house is restored with birch floors and walls, skylights, mirrors and windows to reflect the outdoors. Downstairs, glass doors open onto the private yard. It offers Wifi, dishwasher, flat screen TV, and we can provide laundry and in house maid service upon request during your stay. The bathroom features a restored clawfoot tub, birch paneling, a skylight, which is great for star-gazing while soaking in an aromatic bath courtesy of Persephenie organic bath products, and plush white spa robes.
The bedding and mattress match top hotels, for an exquisite sleep beneath another skylight, and one more view of Montana sized stars, clear as diamonds due to the lack of city light.
The concept of the space is to offer a totally serene indoor/outdoor experience with all the luxury of good, comfortable design mixed with a really lovely collection of antiques and art, combined with a high tech environment to cater to those who must work while away from the city.
It is perfect for weekends or for the week to work in nature, near organic cuisine, Whole Foods style markets, world class spas, yoga, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and of course..surfing!
Surf boards, a well stocked library, and a hammock await you. This is the perfect place to re-charge all of your senses...enjoy!
Guests have access to the best hiking in Ojai right outside the front door, there are fresh oranges to pick from the tree on the property, mountain streams, pepper trees, a soccer field surrounded by the mountain range and generally the most gorgeous flora and fauna that Ojai has to offer.
Guest can text me or call me at any time if they need something. I live in Los Angeles but my folks live on the property and are available for anything guests may need from extra firewood, to tea light candles. The key and a manual are left for them so if they don't want to see anyone, they have that option also. The property is one acre so complete privacy is available.
The East End of Ojai is the most gorgeous area in Ojai. It is a sought after respite for people from neighboring Los Angeles where vacation homes are kept, but is also one steeped with long time residents who will give a friendly wave to anyone who happens past on foot, bicycle or car. Low traffic, close to town, like mountains in Spain, or the South of France. It's exquisite by all standards of what paradise looks like. Flanked by two prep schools, students jogging and horseback riding are a frequent sight. It's a great place to unwind.
There is a cute open air trolley car that picks up and let's off at Boccalis restaurant from the center of town which is a walk from the house. Drive is 3-5 minutes. Walk is about 45 minutes.
The house is the perfect balance of nature and town. Just far enough away to make one feel completely at peace. A massage and Pilates studio are a short walk up the trail, and hiking is at the front door. Gorgeous beaches are a 30 minute drive away and surfboards are available!
Sweet little place - best for 2 people but manageable for 3-4. The location is lovely - about 4 miles from town. Beautiful walks in this area. Although two refrigerators, they are both very compact in size so buying a lot of food for meals if cooking takes some planning. Overall experience was very positive.
We really enjoyed the Agave house. Very unique cozy place with tons of character. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of the walking path right out the front door. I absolutely recommend the agave house if you're looking for a out of the norm home. I would happily go back. Caitlin was a pleasure to work with.

We only had a chance to stay one night at this amazing little house but will definitely return! The house itself is both adorable and very cool - Caitlin has done an amazing job renovating the hut - walls with windows, even parts of the kitchen floor have sky lights. The location is perfect for hiking - though we were there at the hottest time of the year. I highly recommend staying here if you want a private yet not isolated stay in Ojai.
The Agave House is simply charming! A wonderful little respite seeped in style and design of a unique kind. The details are lovely, as is the creative use of the small space. We felt like we were living in a luxurious tree house - just the out of the box experience we were looking for! Thank you Caitlin.
Caitlin's place is a incredibly cute gem - in the hills, surrounded by nature, with everything you could need to spend a few calm, serene days not too far from delicious or exciting activities. Exceptional!
We were four people staying 2 nights and were comfy even if the space is not huge - it'd be perfect for a romantic two-person getaway though.
Really wonderful place. The house was cute and sun-lit -- ideal for a weekend away. The location is lovely (close to the pretty Thatcher school grounds and a hiking trail) and the set-up perfect for two. As another reviewer mentioned, the place works best shared with someone close to you -- lots of windows, mirrors and glass floors (or just don't wear a skirt!). Though our dog loved the nearby field and the hikes, he had trouble with the rocky pebbles in the backyard and driveway and couldn't navigate the narrow staircase indoors. Best for dogs under 70 pounds without sensitive paw pads. Nonetheless, this place is a perfect retreat for discovering Ojai -- thanks!
The place was very cozy and relaxing. We had a great time and experience here.
Agave House is a beautiful and private treehouse-feeling getaway. There are many lovely little plants inside and outside the home. The charming use of mirrors throughout the home creates unique feeling spaces. We could tell that a lot of love, taste and whimsy went into designing the house. There are many little nooks to cozy up in as each room feels like it's own little retreat. This place is ideal for a couple looking for a peaceful haven. It would not be ideal for anyone with accessibility challenges as there are steep, narrow stairs. If you have small children, bring a baby gate.
Charming little cottage that was like staying in a tree house. Full kitchen with all amenities and two refrigerators. Agave House is close to town but far enough away to have a quiet and tranquil stay. Would stay here again.
